2020-2022 Shelby GT500: The Brake Video!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

BRAKES! This video is all-things brakes on the 2020-2022 Shelby GT500. I start with the numbers and then dive into caliper removal, the pads, changing brake pads, brake fluid, bleeding, rotor removal, rotor turning/resurfacing, brake bedding, Caliperflexion front caliper stud mod and finish with my caliper color changing attempts (2) with the 1st being a fail and the 2nd being a success! If you are wondering why I did not powder coat the calipers, the powder coat companies I called advised me not to go this route with a track car as the brake temps get too hot for powder coatings.

    FYI, from the repair manual "9. NOTE: For vehicles equipped with 4 or 6 piston brake calipers, bleed the inner bleeder screw first, followed by the outer bleeder screw."

    Yes, thanks for the tip. I have been doing it that was for awhile. I did it many times the other way. No noticeable difference.

    Fabulous video. One has to know their limitations so I would get this done professionally from the start. Nevertheless it was interesting to see all the work that you put into this. Keep up the great work Tim. 👍

    What a great video!! Thank you. I have the same issue with my S550 GT regarding the caliper paint. I bought some Orange aerosol "Caliper Paint" and it's junk. Just like you have experienced, it is instantly eaten by brake fluid and the brake dust sticks to the paint like shit to a blanket. I found soap and water got it off.

    Before you pull any lines, push the brake pedal down. It will close off the ports in the MC and not allow the brake fluid drip and you won’t need those little baggies on the brake lines.

    @@ShelbyFlyer I should have gone into more detail. You have to KEEP the pedal pushed down. I usually use a 1/2 extension against the seat and use the power seat to push the pedal down. Keep an eye on your battery as the brake lights will be on.

    Hey Tim, what size bolt did you use to clean the old thread locker out? Thanks

  • @ShelbyFlyer

    @ShelbyFlyer

    I don’t recall. I believe it was listed in the instructions from Caliperfexion. Remove one of the caliper bolts and take it to a hardware store… find a nut that goes on it and you’ve found your size. I used a Dremmel and cut channels lengthwise in the threads that worked well for cleaning out the holes.

    hey Tim, Hows ya? Superior Vid! I still got my '08 25K trying to get up the nerve to put a NTO from a '13 supercharger and the billet canyon feeder manifold and a 2" plus a little pulley, my wife bought me a new to me "19 AMG c63s biturbo v8, my acura sh-awd, and my mercedes take my shelby out of a dig and the tech is oh my my my, oddly on the Mercedes has the same size drilled Brembo all the corners. Its metallic snow white a really cushy hotrod, 10 sp auto with modes for the shocks and nannies turn off. I think the acura will take them both from a dig and the fancy honda is a complete joy on good twisties. hope your well. maybe we will cross on the roads somewhere. look it up the C63s is total blast to drive, akebono pads are the great pad secret. bedding is really not that magic, done plenty and they last the same/ my EBC work fine on drilled and slotted brembo rotors. later kevin

    Depends on how much material has to be removed to make the rotor true again. In my case, not much was needed to be removed. I’ve hit the track multiple times with the rotors since without drama.
