2020 13" MacBook Pro VS 16" MacBook Pro! Why Pay TWICE As Much?!

Ғылым және технология

Today we're comparing two of my favorite computers in recent times. My very first apple computer was a 13" MacBook Pro from 2015 and I'll always have a soft spot on my heart for this product line, but the 16" from 2019 is an absolute monster of a computer that trounces it in every performance way.
But does that really matter?
Lets find out!

the 16 inch is really amazing, but its honestly insane and unacceptable that an almost 3000 dollar-after-tax base model piece of tech comes with a 720p camera in 2020.

I actually don't care about the price that much, cos I buy my Mac and upgrade every 4 years or so. Aside from future-proofing your device, there's definitely a significant improvement if you go for a 16gb ram. If you want to add a bit of storage as well, I would suggest just go for the higher end 13" model as you can also benefit from more Thunderbolt 3 ports, better processor, better RAM, better speakers, and better cooling among other things, for a small price difference. However, if that's too much then the base model plus $120 more for a 16gb RAM upgrade is recommended. They also currently have an ongoing educational promo ($100 off + free AirPods) in the US. Cheers!

I just bought 2020 13 inch 10 gen with 32 GB of ram. I wanted to use it for video editing in premiere pro, but it barely hadles it. You can cut the footage, but it's very hard to move objects inside (pictures, texts) etc. Only the simple basic editing in premier pro is possible. Render happens really slow too. Have to try final cut .

What do you think of XPS 15 compared to MacBook 13? The XPS seems more compact and runs small for a 15 inch but offers more performance than the MacBook 13. Seems like it might be a good compromise between performance and size.

I got my new 2020 13” MacBook Pro last Friday from BestBuy’s $200 off sale! 😁 Such a nice laptop! Honestly, it’s probably the best laptop I’ve ever owned. Great screen, great keyboard, impressive cooling, and macOS is such a nice experience! I ended up getting the third tier base model which is more than enough for me (I’m a software developer). I also tried a few games on it and it’s pretty darn smooth! Minecraft was the most impressive; I heard the fans spinning, felt the bottom of my laptop, and it wasn’t hot at all! The improved thermals on this laptop are pretty darn good! I also tried Unity and Blender and it was still staying cool! Apple... 👏👏 Props to you! 10/10 laptop! Would definitely recommend!

  • @aelaan12

Couple of things: I use the 16" because I need a larger screen and I still have the external monitor connected to a TB3 dock that provides just enough juice to keep mine alive. No I do not edit videos or large photoshop with tons of overlays and blends but I manage cloud storage and I do manage backups. Most of that is done on the server side however having at least 12 windows open on my screens daily still make the processor go into the high 70's - I am excited for the Dell XPS 17 to be honest :-). Today the refresh came out and it is a bit of a letdown for a lot of people, yet I truly enjoy the larger laptop. The past two, almost three months, it has been on at least 12 hours a day. I do take my laptops out of the house at some point, but for now it is fine, I have my setup the way I love it. The other major issue with the 13" is the heat, that thing gets so almighty hot and I work on the laptop most of the time. I love the keyboard, be it the butterfly or the scissor keys but I like to have my screen a little closer. The 16" MBP does get warm but I have made some changes and I do not care if the fans run a little more often. Last year I went through four 13" MBPs and I even bought the fully decked out and still could not work comfortably on it with the palm rests overly hot.

Just ordered the 2020 16” MacBook Pro, excited to use the power and screen for music production. Didn’t upgrade the graphics card despite that being the main difference between the 2019 and 2020. It should still be fine for any video editing I choose to do, however. It’s expensive as hell, but in my opinion it’s worth it in the end, at least for my use-cases.

Just got the 13” one with 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports. It’s powerful for what I do with it. Just didn’t have the budget for a 16” one anyways. It works even on premiere pro editing 4K60 videos. It’s just when hitting the render button, it’ll take a while to export the video file. On Final Cut Pro, it’ll export pretty much in real time in 4K60. Other than that, it’s the right machine for me. I’ll put an external graphics card on the MacBook Pro if I need it.

Im in the market now for an update to my 13" mbp 2015. My biggest concern is that on my current laptop Photoshop / Illustrator and other graphics heavy apps struggle when I work on semi complex files, and even if I just hook up my external monitor, UI animations already begin to suffer. Is the 2020 13" iris good enough to solve that or is it going to have to be the 16" for me?

  • @JonnyBravo0311
    @JonnyBravo03114 жыл бұрын

I've always found the 15" MacBooks to be plenty portable. Of course, I was lugging around laptops when they practically needed their own rolling suitcases. I owned a 13", and never really found it to be so much more portable that it justified the loss of screen real estate, and processing power. I also have mine connected to a TS3 dock at home and while I have a couple of complaints about the dock itself (like needing to reset sound preferences and aggregated devices every freaking time I restart the computer), power delivery is not one of them. As you stated, the TS3 can't deliver the full power requirements to sufficiently charge and power the device; however, I have yet to run into such a long-running CPU-intensive task which completely drains the battery while connected to the dock. Yes, the battery will slowly drain, but I've never been worried enough to pull out the Apple charging brick. I'm curious to know what tasks you've had that have caused you to always have both the power brick and dock connected to yours. PS, I'm running a late 2019 15" MacBook Pro with the 8-core i9 and Radeon 560X.

Nice! Yeah I don't find the 16 inch or 15 inch laptops untransportable but once you've used the 13 its really hard to want to carry around the bigger option. I do wish they would bump the 13 up to a 14 and add graphics.

i do photography, picture retouching/editing (photoshop), and video editing as a hobby so i get clients here and there. i also enjoy playing sims 3. i plan to get the macbook pro 13 2020, 2.3 ghz quad core i7, 32 gb memory, 1tb ssd as i do prefer a more portable/travel friendly size. although i am on the fence with macbook pro 16 2019, 2.4 8 core i9, 64gb memory, amd radeon pro 5500m 8gb ddr6 memory graphics, 1tb ssd. im just trying to weigh each device before choosing on one. deciding if it's worth spending 1k+ to get the 16 or save 1k+ and stick to the 13. opinions and advice are appreciated. my current device i've had for almost 8 years now (macbook pro 13 mid 2012, 2.9 dual core i7, 16gb memory *upgraded from original 8gb ram*, 500gb ssd samsung *upgraded from original 500gb hd*). it's starting to slow down by a lot even with regularly updating software. i can barely export a 3 min video from final cut pro anymore. photoshop still works fine, slightly slower. website browsing- i use to be able to use dozens of tabs but now it can only leave several up without the laptop being slow.
