Just test drove this today! Very impressive suspension dampening for comfort. Pretty good handling too. The engine choice is a bit of a let down for driving enthusiast, but capable for normal driving. Good features all around too.

I bought a hilux back in 2009 and its still running fantastic in 2020, smooth idle, quiet on low rev band (1500rpm) and it is worth half the price today!

I love how this new Camry looks. However that 2.5 is well past its best.I hope Toyota would consider using the 2.0 turbo engine as that excellent chassis is crying out for more power and especially torque. I would definitely get one if Toyota decides to use the 2.0 turbo.Would make a very nice family car for me,as an alternative to a Merc or a BMW.

Test drove before. Passat Elegance & R Line have greater roadnoise but the blame goes to VW poor choice of tyres. Elegance. 18" Continental MC5 if I'm not mistaken (that tyre known for loud noise) and R-Line used Pirelli Cinterato which is also known for road noise and not comfy. Just swap all tyres of Passat with either Bridgestone Turanza or Michelin Primacy 4, your problem will be solved. Way way quieter. Soundproofing and comfort should be about the same but I feel Turanza has better handling as Primacy is soft.

It’s a great product only let down by the carried over 2.5 2AR-FE from the 2012 Camry. Why can’t we mirror the specs that Thailand and Singapore gets? Which is the 2.5L dynamic force engine, while mysteriously the 2.0E and 2.0G we have been getting for years suddenly are dropped from the lineup. Perhaps it’s time UMW gets booted by Toyota Japan and they find a new partner in Malaysia

Just Malaysia i guess. Toyota practically gave up the mid size SUV segment and small hatchback segment. Two segments that grow up accustomed to this form factor with the popularity of Myvi. And then you realise Toyota owns Daihatsu, and Daihatsu - Perodua practically means the number one car maker in Malaysia selling more than 220k units a year are Toyota platforms, Toyota engines, Toyota gearboxes and Toyota technology. They are still market leader, comfortably so.

@@BobbyAngmalaysia , in general yes, i agree your statement that Toyota still the market leader. if come back to its own brand, B & C segment is beaten by Honda at the same segment, which Honda brings in lots of new tech in City (Hybrid I-DCD) & Civic (1.5T). It's clearly shows that nowadays people no longer take reliable in their 1st priority but what other things can you offer if compare apple to apple (honestly i don't really see much new Altis otr but new Civic is everywhere).

Putting the gearbox aside, it is on par in terms of sporty driving, and slightly better in terms of comfort. But the Mazda's gearbox made it shine bright. That's not to say the Camry's transmission isnt up to par, in fact in terms of behavior, it's like most others out there. Many journalist only knows how to 'judge' a gearbox from 'how fast it shifts' but they rarely look deeper into 'how it shifts' which is more important than how fast they shift in everyday driving.

Gotta agree with Bobby Ang that the driving dynamics are almost eq to Mazda6 2.5l? Strictly comparing among Toyota's in-house products, guess this is essentially a down-grade from the Camry Hybrid? It feels like the Lexus ES250 which guess Toyota gotta do to justify being a launch, at least in M'sia? Whatever, they try to do guess it can't handle as refined as the rear-wheel drive set-up of higher-end Lexus saloons or Toyota Mark X? For those who own the Camry Hybrid, rest assure that your car (i) will be simply be more fuel-efficient when U are light-footed, and (ii) out-run the "all new" "TNGA" thingy shld U press harder lah! tQ ;)

Malaysia will get the 2.0T accord? Interesting, as Thailand will get the hybrid 2.0 and the 1.5 turbo, coming by the end of March....even though you get the old engine + 6 speed, it's actually a little quicker than the new 2.5 + 8 speed (as tested in Thailand recently). But the new engine gets better fuel economy.
