2019 Suzuki Jimny first drive review
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The new Suzuki Jimny not only looks like a miniature Mercedes G-Wagon, it has the potential to pound through the wilderness like one, too, with lots of fairly hardcore off-roading tools at its disposal. Question is, what’s it like in other areas? Like the road, for instance. Auto Trader’s Road Test Editor, Ivan Aistrop, went to Frankfurt in Germany to find out.

We NEED it. We have no true off roaders left. We will give you MONEY!!!
You are totally underestimating this vehicle. On April 21, 2007, the Chilean duo of Gonzalo Bravo and Eduardo Canales drove their modified Suzuki Samurai (SJ413) up Ojos del Salado, past the previous record set by a Jeep at 6,646 meters (21,804 ft), setting a new record for the highest altitude attained by a four-wheeled vehicle at 6,688 meters (21,942 ft). The Samurai in question benefitted from wheel, tire, and suspension changes, and a supercharged G16A 4-cylinder engine. It was the third attempt for the two man team, after encountering weather difficulties on the first attempt and an engine fire in the second. The previous record holder's team led by Matthias Jeschke driving a Jeep Wrangler, left a sign reading "Jeep Parking Only: All others don't make it up here anyway". The Chilean team found the sign, blown down by strong winds, and brought it back to civilization as a souvenir. Sorry for the long post. This is reader’s parking. Non reader wouldn’t have reached here anyway .lol jk jk.
The Jimmy is lightweight, so it will probably get you further than a modern RangeRover

There's proper off-road comparisons of the old jimny side by side with the new fully loaded Range Rover and the Range Rover couldn't keep up with a stock Jimny.

That was really a silly statement for a car reviewer... Of course it will...
This reviewer has no idea what he is talking about, a stock Jimmy would go twice and far as any stock jeep and Range Rover, It's size and ladder on frame body allow the Jimny to move through tight and tough terrain that other 4x4s wouldn't go near.

Agreed 100% | This Suzuki won't need repairs or recalls like Range Rover and Jeep seem to do (and make headlines in the meantime). You want a reliable simple four wheel drive, luxury soccer Mum's can have their warranty recalls, I'll take this Suzuki thanks.

A Range Rover and jeep are soft roaders, they rely on tech and aftermarket mods for the jeep to make it anywhere off-road, their weight and size is a major disadvantage.
Don’t think the reviewer has a clue how capable this little gems are, it will get down any tight tiny off road section while the tank sized Range Rover would be bogged and scratching its expensive paint job
The Jimmy can actually go further than jeep wranglers and range rovers.. not because its Japanese, not because it’s engineered better, but because of it’s small size & simplicity. Just from the reviewer’s comment, i can tell he doesn’t have a lot of experience with off roading. Ive seen current (old now) model jimnys tackle terrains range rovers, jeeps and even toyota land-cruisers couldn’t handle.. and its pretty much due to it’s size, nimbleness & short wheel base. It’s a bad choice if you just want a comfortable city small SUV. It’s the best and one and only choice if you’re after an affordable little “serious” off-roading machine. This car can tackle terrains most bigger and more expensive SUVs can handle and even more.

Small size is only an advantage in certain ways. The problem is you aren't taking anywhere near the amount of gear with you. Think about it. If small size was all that mattered why not take a radio controlled truck with you?
A better 4wd than this reviewer recognises.
Don't think this bloke understands what proper off roading is, on many occasions my little Jimny has walked all over terrain which the cruisers and jeeps behind struggle with. Suzuki driving tracks you can't since 1970.

I owned 3 suzuki (15 jimny, 93 vitara, 88 samurai) knowing that they are not comfy, breaks your back and neck in long cruises. AC in summer barley blow cold air, it gets scary at high speeds. But this little toy is the most fun car i ever drove. I took it sand dunning, towed a jet ski with it, my young brother learned how to drive manual gear in the samurai, i can park it anywhere, my friend who is a mechanic bought a jimny like mine to modify it, the samurai was my first car after high school, every time i drive my jimny its fun. So many memories im forever a loyal samurai/jimny fan boy. This reviewer doesn't get it. But i recommend this car to be your second car.

I love the subtle little nods back to the previous versions. I currently own the predecessor and will definitely be getting this one (in jungle green) I pray they will produce a decent trough rack for it so I can stick a roof tent on top and then it will be truly sublime!
I guess you could call me a JIMNY fan-boy as I currently drive my third variation. I started with my first Jimny about thirty years ago living on an island in Australia. I used the little Jimny for pulling trailer full with rocks, on the farm and in the bush. I had each one for about ten years and was never disappointed or had troubles. I live now in a city but will definitely stay with my beloved Jimny even if it is only for the high seating--having put on some years and am a bit stiff in the joints sitting in one of the low slung jalopies
I'm drooling over this Jimny, but sadly we won't see it in the US :-(
It appears that the reviewer definitely isn't an experienced 4wd enthusiast. Any generation of Jimny/Sierra will destroy a Land Rover or jeep offroad. Theres a very good reason why the Jimny has become one of the most loved 4wd's all over Australia, which just so happens to be one of the hardest places on earth for offroading while land rovers and jeeps have a reputation here of being unreliable and useless in the outback.

@IMLYINGISWEAR

What are you talking about? Being that you're a jeep guy I can only assume you're from the US? In which case Americans wouldn't know of Suzuki 4x4 reliability seeing as though the Samurai was the last dedicated offroad suzuki sold in the US. Here in Australia, Suzuki Jimny's are held in the highest regard for reliability on par with others such as the 70 series landcruiser. Jeeps in remote Northern Australia dont last very long. Around here you would never trust a jeep to get you in and out of remote areas which is why you never see them outside the cities. This isn't my personal belief, but its the general consensus among seasoned veterans.

It looks like a mini g wagon
Bring it to Hawaii. We rarely get to drive 60 mph so, cruising is no issue. Samurai's were fun rentals here in the 80's. I'd imagine the Jimny rides a bit better.
Please bring this to the USA! I'd love to park it next to my 1989 samurai!!

All I could hear and see was the awesome looking little SUV.. I hope to buy one within the next few years. I've bought a brand new one in the mid 80s and I was absolutely blown away by the look, feel, and it's price. I have absolutely no complaints, just praises on this vehicle.
This reviewer unfortunately understands nothing of off-road driving but either way nice to see the new Jim in motion.
Great report. I live in Colombia South America and can't wait for the new Jimny to become available here.

Why all this talk of destroying the other ? The Jimny is better in tight places , obviously and where brute power is needed then the RR will come out tops .
This guy is not a good reviewer. He thinks the Jimny will not go as far as a Jeep or Range Rover? Maybe he should watch some real world tests with the current (older) Jimny . These things are a beast offroad, and the newer one looks to be even better.

Just....no. Lockers and tires are the biggest contributor to off road prowess. Small size might get you thru tight spots but when you're crossing a deep hole size and power is an advantage. 454 Chevy with 46" IROCS and spools will take you farther through mud than anything.

@@SCROGY really? I own a twin locked Landcruiser 105 and a twin locked Suzuki Sierra 91 model and the Suzuki Sierra would eats my landcruiser for breakfast on serious terrain even with less aggressive tires. And my sierra has smaller tyres too...
I'm a Jimny lover. This so called test made me laugh. The car is capable of much more. That 'rugged' hill was pathetic. Just take it out in the snow at four in the morning and have a good time as the only driver on the road.
In regards to your claim that the Jimny won't go as far as a Range Rover, may I point you to Autocar's test, where the previous model went FURTHER? If anything this one looks to be even better.

That's the most civilized off-road road I've seen...almost paved.
Hey Auto Trader still hoping you would do a review on the Ssangyong Rexton G4.
The old Jimny came with bridgestone dueler tyres and felt lethal in the wet, michelin latitude cross and it was a different car. Small things make a lot of difference on these mini beasts
It's a proper little off-roader this - the axle articulation on the old model was amazing. If it had a boot that was a bit bigger (i.e. big enough to put things in), I would have bought one.
Good for Suzuki. Following the legendary Jeep design! Looks like a good fun vehicle, also affordable for those that enjoy the outdoors/offroading. In these days of 'pretendy' off readers, its good to see the Suzy providing a vehicle that can perform 'off road!'
Great Video Review. I like the New Model which Is my personal view
Yes it will take you perhaps even further than what a Range Rover can!
Stunning little car
Cutest car ever made.
Actually, this guy is driving through Sprendlingen, a small town south of Frankfurt. I take this very same road on my way to work! :) He could do me a favour and get me some groceries from Real so I wouldn't waste time there next Saturday. And yes, I like the car. Looks great imo. Way better than the old Jimny ...
Best vehicle I ever owned was my Suzuki Samurai, thing was Simple & Indestructible, Loved it ;-)
honest good review
A Jimny would actually take you much further than a Range Rover. :)
A lot of them over here in Italy - many in acid yellow - great benefit in being small to get round these old narrow winding roads, tight village streets and hillsides. Also if it does get stuck you can pull it out with your teeth. Cheerful but not cheap!
I love it ! I just like that retro style boxy shape off road SUV bring those to America please !
you say it wont get you as far into the wilderness as a rangerover or jeep. i disagree.
I love this little SUV we do need it in the USA I hope it will be soon
Africa will appreciate this. exterior styling is a plus for me. the interior look and feel could be better though
Love it!
I wish they still sold them in the NA market.
I’m very interested in this car. Early reports were that this car would start at £13k here in the uk which I felt was a fair price. But now, I’m hearing it’s actually going to be starting at £17k. If that’s the case, then I think Suzuki have shot themselves in the foot. I mean you can get a great spec Dacia Duster with all the extras you need for £13k.
Great retro looks, capable and reliable off road prowess, light weight with great traction, this is a nice vehicle! So, what is the gas mileage at now?
in Latin America these suzukis are very appreciated.and they have a huge market since the LJ and SJ or Samurai.
I just wish it had a soft top version like the SJ.
I love it!
As a Samurai owner, I would love to get my hands on one of these in the US.
is it a good car for commuting in a slightly bad road ? around 140 km a day in total
Agree. If they sold this in the US, I would buy as soon as it goes on sale.
If the price is right, this would be my weekend bush bashing car. It already look good as it is. More clearance perhaps and at tyres and it is ready to go.
No theory about it chummy (Ivan Aistrop), this is a proper off road vehicle, not some tarted up shopping car. More to the point you can buy one of these & a family car for way less than any of it's serious competition.
I have a 2006 Jimny and I think when the time comes to retire the old girl I'll be picking up a nice dark green one of these.
Love it

It is a bit rowdy at motorway speeds....lol He should have driven my 87 Samurai with a 6-1 transfercase and 30" tires. Ran about 4500 rpm at 70 mph
Dude, who made you a car reviewer? This Jimny can go much farther in wilderness compared to a Range Rover or a Jeep. It's absolutely unquestionable. It can even bring one back in one piece without breaking down unlike Range Rovers and Jeeps

I think this would be a smash hit for Suzuki if they made a 4-door model and maybe some extended versions with a truck bed in the back, it would be perfect as a rugged workman car!
Why is this channel using other video footage from Suzuki and pretending that it is theirs? The car is not even the same color.
Any chance of getting a 2019 Suzuki Jimny in the USA?
I live in Japan and I'm sooooo getting one next year. I want to drive this up into the hills a post cool pics on Instagram with it.
I really want one of these in the US!
That is one sexy looking retro jeep/Gwag copy.
I like the style of the Jimny why is 4 door only being sold in limited countries
I've ordered mine last March, waiting until February due to the massive orders for it. However, my CX5 could do that trail, it's not off-roading.
WE NEED THIS IN CANADA!
Some curious understatements in this review, eg. the Jimny '... should in theory be able to reach parts that other small softroaders cannot reach' and 'Is it going to get you as far into the wilderness as a Range Rover or a Jeep? Well no ...'
Need that in Canada
One thing I learned from the Jimmy, it can beat a land cruiser, it's not a soft roader
Damn we need this in the States 😭

I think I am in love. Too bad we won't get it in the U.S.
It's all about the price and fun factor. The Range Rover/Jeep etc are superb vehicles but are £40,000+ The Jimny is well under £20,000 and at that price it's a great fun alternative to a regular hatchback. Sure the Polo is better on road but which would you rather have? Drive the Jimny like a 4x4 and there's no problems. We previously had a VW Up GTi We now have a Jimny l don't miss the VW.
Going on New Jimny dealer course next week.....(feeling smug.)

Looks good enough for a combat vehicle. It's a pity that it comes with so little boot space. Afterall offroading means camping and provisions.
Had to laugh at the journo stating it won't go as far as a range rover. A rangey would be very lucky to stick with a jimny in serious offroad condition, if it doesn't break first.
Nice
