2019 KTM 1290 Super Duke GT Review
Ойын-сауық
I first rode the KTM Superduke GT in it's first incarnation a couple of years ago, I liked the bike but didn't much care for the looks. Well now KTM have come out with a much improved version of the bike, complete with a new look front end - what do I make of it this time? Stay tuned to find out!.....

So I started to watch this blog, wet roads a powerful bike and the anxiety set in, when would the inevitable happen, becoming more anxious as Mr TMF becomes more confident with the bike, anxiety levels raising all the time and then . . . . It wasn't a white van but a yellow one, what a treat for us all :-) Great review as always!
Great review as always ! Keep them coming and look forward to them.. One thing I noticed on almost every KTM review ( no matter who reviews them )is that the motor performance (which is incredible) overshadows everything else on the bike and it takes a long term review to actually give a more accurate assessment. Hope to see one soon on this model. Thanks.
It can be a faff, selecting adjustments in the menu, Mr Flyer, but you can designate things to two quick select buttons. My quick select 1 is for my heated grips, 2 is for ride mode. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I really love the KTM looks. Thanks for another great clip. PS mine’s a 1290 SAR🖖
FYI, you can assign the heated grip function to one of the "quick presets" so it's only a one button click to access the function (same system on my 2017 1290 Super Adventure) Great unbiased real world review as always. Keep up the good work.

I was glad to be able to see the speed on the TFT screen. It always looks like you are going about 20 MPH faster than is actually the case. Now I can relax !
I usually hit the "like button" on your video's before it's actually up and running. Great Review Sir!

"like a rhinoceros, ready to pounce..." Love it!
It makes more sense comparing this to the BMW S1000XR than with the GS, both price-wise and segment. Very nice review nonetheless!
Lovely bike and a great review as always, TMF. Thanks very much. Would buy one of these if my pockets were bottomless.
Great review, Rode a 2017 one to Alaska and back, bit over 10,000 km. Worked nicely. The seat is hard but had less butt pain after 600 km than on a BMW R1200RT. Had some warranty issues. KTM did well by me on those. From time to time I think of selling it. Then I start the engine and those thoughts vanish.

Nice one Ernest!
Great review! As far as looks go, the view from the cockpit is great, and that is the one you see 90% of the time as the rider. I would really like to hear this big beast trundling around a car park like you have been doing with Triumphs lately. Guess I will have to do that on my own unless you get a chance at a longer term review. Thanks TMF. Peace!

I always watch till the end, Flyer. I know it helps out some! Great video of the new GT. I'm with you on the looks. Sometimes I like it sometimes I don't. It's a bit weird. Cheers!
I have the 2017 GT and am really jealous of that tft screen. Still the greatest bike I've ever owned.
Great stuff as always - itching to have a go on a KTM - especially the Adventure! Thanks again!
THE very best review! Real world observation and usage, Thanks!
I've owned this new GT model since 1st March. The front seems to get mixed reactions but when i'm riding I don't see it, but I love the quirky looks and you certainly know it's a KTM but that face isn't just pretty. Those eyes pierce through the blackest nights of Oxfordshire with enough lumins to turn darkness into daylight. It's a pity you had a wet day, sports ride mode and comfort setting make this bike the sweetest handling bike I've owned, simple to ride, fast, comfortable and safe. The GT couldn't care less what gear you're in through a bend, tip in and wind the throttle open and it will you pop out the other end. I had an S1000RR before this, the GT is much more fun, less serious about itself, much easier to ride and is a truly happy bike. Do you need 175 bhp and 144 Nm, yes, yes you do. What don't I like about the GT, erm...

We have very bad roads here in Belgium. So comfort and a good suspension is important to me. Currently doubting between the Super Duke GT and the Super Adventure S, as the latter has a longer front suspension I think it might be better for road with lots of potholes. If you're on the Super Duke GT, is the dampening sufficient for long trips? No soar back with a bit more leaning forwards then the Super Adventure S? Just wondering what your experiences are and what you would advice. I definitely love the looks of the GT better. I assume a pillion has the same comfort on both.

I've seen this bike in the same white&orange colour on my latest weekend spin. It looks much much better than the original model which already looks dated in my opinion. KTM did a great job with update for this new model. I love it and it stands out and looks like nothing else on the road, you either like it or hate it

I've got a 2017 model with the heated seats they are great. Wish the new tft screen had a proper nav not just turn by turn. Booked to try one out this weekend
Excellent review as always. They've fixed the things that made me buy the 1290 SAS instead, definitely looking at this one when I get a new bike

25 minutes!, I don't spend 25 minutes on the throne in a week...
Great review as ever Mr Flyer. I think you must have been out the day my Mod2 was cancelled due to heavy rain 😕 I’d be interested to know how the KTM compares to the Multistrada 1250 - not that either will be my first bike!
Another great review...odd to see you going through Berko. The looks are still an acquired taste. Sat on a GT at KTM Hemel at the weekend. I am fairly tall, but still comfortable. Ok, so it is pricey, but if you want to get one on a PCP deal, (some people like PCP, others hate them), the APR rates charged by some KTM dealers are quite low...as in almost 50% less than the rates charged by Ducati and BMW. Alternatively, you can get them on a good HP deal. Some 2018 bikes have 0%.
If only they could come with a more sober styling, it would be great. But I guess it’s part of the KTM’s way...Nice review, as usual !
What motorcycle jacket, pants, and boots do you use ? Im using leather but thinking about changing to gortex/allweather instead.
Another good review. I'm with you really about the looks, it's just not for me, but I'm sure it's a great bike to live with.
Would be my second choice after a GS. Not 100% sold on the front end but could live with it. Some good deals around on them too.
Really like that GT.. When I'm in the market for a new bike this will most certainly be on my list. Not sure about the Orange wheels. Cheers.
And just for info, the screen did adjust the same way. And the issue with the grips can be changed if you assign heated grips to your favourites, then it's just 1 press to get to what you wish to change. Do have to say I love the tft dash, I love the one on my adventure s
Never really liked KTM until now! looks a cracking bike I like the look of it.
Totally agree with the menu structure regarding heated grips, but you do get used to it.
Ashridge is lovely, we ride our mountain bikes up there. Personality I'd go for the Africa twin, of all the adventure bikes.
Great review...your 3 reviews of the 1290 Superadventure led me to get one....as you can see! :-)

I did a review on this as well and posted it on my channel. Just loved the fun factor of this bike!! That V-Twin is just awesome!! I could certainly trade up for one of these!!
Great channel 👍, for now I'll stick with me gixer thou but given the choice I'd probably have a multistrada.
Sat here in Sydney in what is apparently Autumn (32 degrees in the shade today), taking a look at the KTM and you decide to ride my old commute from HH towards the Dunstable Downs. Ruined with cameras, probably my fault as I loved opening the bike up a little too much every morning and every night :o The weather and the greyness was something to behold, could I ever move back!!??

Does anyone know if exhaust is the same as the previous GT? I just put a exhaust on my 2017 model and totalled it but the exhaust is fine. Wanna know if I can put it on a 2019 model? Thanks.
I have the previous model but I’m not tempted to get the 2019, I don’t care for the looks of the front end. I’m getting mine re-mapped with the 2019 engine map at my dealer next week....for free!. I’ve had mine for 2 years and absolutely love it, puts a big smile on my face every time I ride it.

Hey TMF, I know you get asked to test ride bikes all the time. But, you may want to consider the new Hypermotard 950 and the new Multistrada 950s. Went for a test ride on the stock Hypermotard 950, really nice, great fun. Very much a Sunday morning machine for back roads.
@bioni76
5 жыл бұрын
I second that. A Hypermotard 950 review from the missenden flyer would be great!
@TMF Always remember "EUBikeDudes law": The amount of crappy weather is directly proportional to the performance of the bike you are trying to ride, i.e. the more you want/can push the bike, the worse the weather will be! You REALLY must get one of the KTM dealers to let you try a PP Ergo seat, which, as I've mentioned should come standard. Ideally try a heated one. :) Hyperbole aside, it's more like 100 times/second at best for the semi-active adjustments. Also you can put heat or whatever on the quick access (up and down when you are not in a menu) buttons. Heat for winter, modes for summer. They should add a single button to cycle through the heat though - well two, one for the seat as well. Speaking of windscreens, I finally got the touring PP screen for the 790, the bike is transformed, slips through the air much more easily and all the bufferting goes over the head. Maybe do a 790 follow-up one with the screen fitted, the best PP for the bike IMO - way better value than e.g. an end can. ;)
Gorgeous bike, great review
Many thanks for another excellent video. I just love your reviews. I am thinking of getting one but I am worried about the wind protection. The bike will be used mainly for touring and this sometimes involve covering 700 to 1000km in one day....based on your short review how will the bike handle it?

I am in the market for the KTM super duke gt but I am a little worried about wind protection. Is it better then on the Bmw R 1200 Rs. Also, regarding seat height. I am 1,73 cm (32 inseam). The 82 seat height on the Rs felt perfect for me. What do you think?
I know what you mean about the looks but it is growing on me , 30" inside leg so may be tip toe , that said probably my No. 1 sport touring bike . Also half decent rubber out of the crate Angel GT, some manufacturers skimp on decent rubber never understood that , probably loses them sales due to iffy handling on demo bikes. 👍
Like the big USB port on the numberplate :D
Does it have more place for leg under the gas tank? Ive got 1190 adventure and I love it but before I have Buy the adventure I was looking for the Gt but my leg does not fit under gas tank. By the way I am 6 foot 4 inch Tall.

Great review TMF Why am I thinking Granada Scorpio Fugly
Keep up the good reviews!!👍
First time that your speedo has gone all blurry! Very bold!
What would say are the real differences ? i have read complaints the previous model had poor fuelling at low revs and the suspension wasn't the best. Some bargains to be had on the last of the old models right now, so torn as what to do.
At 1:00, is that Swindon's Magic Roundabout? I was there once some years ago. Had been in England for a few months, and boy, was I surprised when I saw the vertical road signs announcing the roundabout. Quite daunting. But was able to navigate it without trouble. You seem to be used to it, no hesitations there.

Could you add GPS to the display as an option? is it already in there? or would you actually have to have a totally different screen for Sat Nav I wonder?
@MrRichardCass
5 жыл бұрын
If you have the MY Ride option and a paid for app on your phone, then you can have on screen navigation
@Budget-Cars-And-Bikes
5 жыл бұрын
@@MrRichardCass I wonder how much the "My Ride" option for the bike is then? Looks like it's around £10 for the actual phone app, then does it use your phone data? (I guess so) and you of course have to keep your phone charged as it seems to be a Bluetooth set up to connect phone to screen. Nice to have GPS as an option, but seems a little complicated when they could have just built it into the bike screen without the need for all the fuss (A simple Sim slot would no doubt have done the trick)
Added to the list of replacements for my Street RS next year - better yet companion!
A better seat,taller more upright riding position and shaft drive would steal so many potential GS re-buyers. As it is it seems to promise long distance potential to former sport bike owners who love the high HP figures but i imagine will fall short of GS/VStrom ability in this area.
@joolzm4058

If you want all that just get a gs and be another one the sheep,KTM strive to be original
If I view it as adventure-tourer I say it’s actually one of the best and most aggressive looking bike in that category. I wouldn’t call BMW R/GS, super tenere, ect. any prettier.
It's the perfect do everything bike, except doing nice looks. I really want to like it but the look is a huge struggle. I do like the SDR look much more, so maybe I should just stick with that as the maybe for my next bike.
Does anyone call those 'coffin mirrors' or would that be frowned on??
A lot of people hate the looks, I think it’s modern and very cool looking.
Price is good!, £16k wow. Nice bike mind and decent review again
Nice one flyzie!
How does it compare to the GS or even the RS? BMW's Sport Tourer. Especially on the electronic side on using the menu system vs the whiz wheel.
@TheMissendenFlyer
5 жыл бұрын
The whizz wheel is the best bike electronics control system I’ve yet used....the KTM system is pretty good though, better than the Triumphs....
what's the difference between the gt and the R ????
Another quality review and undoubtedly a great bike, but I couldn't love it, just because of the looks...just doesn't do it for me. I'd rather have a Yamaha Tracer 900gt, which is probably 90% as good, for a lot less money.
I would still go for the super duke r over the GT version. Sure the GT would be better for two up and offers a bit more protection from the weather but fit a small / tour screen to the SD r and throw on some soft luggage and you have a cracking naked tourer as well as all the other things it does brilliantly.

Right. Great review as always TMF - I appreciate your attention to detail in reviewing bikes plus I really enjoy your accent : ). I own a 1290 SA - the original 2015 big adv. bike, and i'm looking to choose between a 2019 1290 SAS or this - the 2019 1290 GT. I'm used to KTM styling and quirkiness so looks are not an issue for me, on the contrary I see them as a differentiator. Since you have tested both - I followed the SAS long term review you did a while back - I have a few questions and would appreciate your input: how do you feel they compare in terms of comfort - riding position ( ergo triangle - seat, pegs, bars ), soaking up bumps - I know the SAS is capable overall but maybe a bit long legged vs the GT that I know it used to be harsh before but I understand it has newer software for the suspension, and which one would you choose if you had to do a lot of filtering in town traffic - stability, flickabilty, mirrors height vs cars mirrors. At the end of the day if it were you money - and BMW stopped making the GS :) - which one would you choose as your daily do it all - the SAS or the GT ? Thank you in advance. cheers
