Today I take you along as I cut and try to program a key for a 2019 KIA optima. I was able to cut the key but not able to program the fob because I could not pull the 6 digit pin code. I still got the car done by paying a visit to the locksmith. This is video #104

That's a cool little key copying machine. I used to have to copy Audi keys when I worked at the dealer. We had a similar machine. Keys were easy to make in the 90s. The only keys that needed special attention then were the GM VATS keys. We had a reader that looked like an ignition cylinder. Plug the key in and it told you what VATS key you needed. To cut GM keys from code we had a Curtis hand held cutter with levers like a Lenco shifter. I still have a SAAB key cutter and the code book. To get a key cut today is a major operation. I would imagine your locksmith has invested quite a lot of $$$ in equipment. Probably why he is reluctant to give a discount.

Yes, making keys is something I only do once in a while and there have only been 3 that I couldn't do in the past because of the Chrysler pin code but I now have the software to pull the pins on those but now I find out that Kia also need a pin code. I have contacted Xtool and they are going to get back to me. It's interesting to me to hear about all your past experience. I use to have a Corvette that the VATS would not always read the key and I simply measures the resistance of the key and added a bypass resistor and never had a problem again. I want to learn automotive locksmithing better because as I get older that is something I could fall back on to make good money after I retire.
That would be cool to have a key cutting machine. What do I need to get a key fob for my 2017 F350 Lariat? I have the key but am missing the fob and the key does me no good.

Just get a cheap one on amazon or ebay and follow the instruction on your scan tool.
