2019 Kia Forte vs Honda Civic

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Honda Civic has beat every compact car we’ve compared it against so far: the Mazda3, Subaru Impreza, and Toyota Corolla. That’s an impressive feat seeing as all of those competitors are much newer than the Civic, which came out in 2015.
The Kia Forte was also recently overhauled, so it’s time to see if it can break the Civic’s winning streak.

The main issue with the Kia is the NHTSA safety rating. If Kia had gotten that right it would have been the clear winner in the compact segment. It's an easier test than the IIHS which they did ace so I wonder what went wrong.

@1pilot2000 Oil dilution is a concern in colder climates for the Civic's 1.5t engine. Honda says it's fixed while some people say they still notice some issues. The 2.0l is supposed to be rock-solid, so it really comes down to the better CVT. I haven't seen either company criticized for their CVT, so I think both would be fine. IIIRC, the Forte has the better warranty but the Honda will most likely have better resale value.

I’m even in a Kia Optima group chat on Facebook with thousands of memebers, and nearly everyone who owns a 3rd gen optima has had their engines replaced. Either because Kia sent them a letter letting them know their vehicles are the ones affected or their engines just went out. No joke. Oh yeah, and resale value is still bad. You shouldn’t buy any car brand new and sell it in 5 years. Leasing would make more sense then. If your not gonna keep you’re car for closer to ten years then purchasing a vehicle is not economically smart. The reasons why Hyundai/Kia give such good warranties is to offset the low resale value. Hence the reasoning of keeping a purchased vehicle for that length of time to get actual value out of it. It’s very simple, that’s not opinion based conjecture, it’s the fact of the matter.

Why didn't you compare the Honda 2 liter non-turbo to the Kia 2 liter? I bet you the Kia's engine and performance would have been better. And BTW, the Kia has an IVT, which is the best CVT type transmission on the market. In any case, the $2k difference on a car at this price point - is a BIG difference, making the Forte the clear better choice.

The ride isn't as smooth as the Cruze considering it doesn't have independent rear suspension but other than that, the look (inside and out), the power and torque difference, the features and the MPGs are amazing. I get upwards of 40 MPGs on my way to work (in sport mode) and 30+ in the city with over a 400 mile range on about 12 gallons of gas.

Jodi Lai seems to have a serious dislike for the Honda Brand and she has found either an ally or a lackey in Sebastien. I can't think of a single review she's done that doesn't do some kind of backhanded dig at Honda in some way. She starts off by saying "I'm usually quick to criticize the Honda Civic style... It's not the kind of car you want to get to stand out". She then says the Forte is like a little Stinger (a pretty aggressively styled car) and immediately about faces by saying that the Civic's to too aggro (a gaming term for aggressive). The Civic 1.5L turbo has 174 HP/162 LB-FT/36 MPG Kia's 2.0 Non-turbo has 147 HP/132 LB-FT/34 MPG... Sebastien grudgingly says "overall this LOOKS like a win for the Civic". Overall? in every aspect, the Civic does better. Jodi says "I've said it before and I'll say it again the Honda Civic has a very busy interior (although the Civic infotainment/HVAC system has 12 buttons & 3 dials while the Kia has 14 buttons and 4 dials). She and Sebastien say the word "busy" 4 more times when describing the Civic interior then once again backhandedly say "but (the Civic) does a very good job sneaking in the cheaper materials (suggesting is trying to hide how cheap their cars are, while ignoring that their statement also suggests it has mostly nice materials)". less than a minute later they acknowledge that the Kia interiors downfall is that "it ALL looks kind of cheap" finishing up with "I'd never call the Civic's interior bad but...(the cheap-looking Kia Forte's is better)". They blow through mentioning that Honda Sensing has safety 6 features (while calling one of those features "stupid") while taking their time to highlight that Kia has (only) 4 safety features (but none of them are stupid). The features the Kia is missing are "a bit of a disadvantage". They try really hard to be impartial but by actively avoiding terms like "class-leading", "Best in Class" or "segment leader' while saying that the Kia is everything you should expect in the segment and is $2000 less. If you could pay $2000 more and have the best in class everyone would do it. Autoguide please take Jodi Lai off of reviewing Honda's.

I disagree with this video in SOOO many ways! Any issue with Civic seemed to be catastrophic and sub-par! Busy interior? Busy exterior? That's for a reason, ATTENTION TO DETAIL! Civics are just more premium and substantive than Kia. Honda caters to a large demographic with the hatch, sedan, coupes; they offer everything from a base model to a type R. I'd like to see either of these cars at 100,000 miles or 200,000 miles, even with Honda's turbo. Note, this was a bold and very recent move to use a GDI turbo. Sure, there may be some oil dilution, but that's typical of GDI engines. CHANGE YOUR OIL and boom - problems detoured. A new type of oil will also hit the markets next year that will also help with dilution. Nobody mentioned RESALE VALUE! Again, let's look at resale values in 5 years of ownership. The Civic may be more expensive, but in turn you are getting comfort, reliability, safety, resale value that can't be matched. Also, this generation Civic came out about four or five years ago, a new generation should be rolling out in a few years anyway. This will help Civic maintain a position it has had and will have for years to come. Kias are good cars, Hondas are GREAT cars. The Civic has yet to meet it's match. Kelley Blue Book and Consumer Reports offer better, more accurate car information.

The asking price is significantly lower and comes with a longer standard warranty. From what I've heard in other reviews the new Kia iCVT seems to perform better than most competitors and I would expect much fewer long-term issues from the Forte's conventional multi-port, naturally aspirated engine versus the lower displacement, direct-injected, turbocharged motor in the Civic.
