That's a lifesaver! After 6 months of changing a motor, the tracks, and a control module, I was waiting to get the car back to the dealership so they could investigate again, as the sunroof wasn't working. After seeing your video I went to try the steps, and to my surprise: It worked! Everything is working now! I have a 2015 Edge SEL and these commands really saved me a lot of headaches.

I don't believe your motor is bad. Ford has the moonroof automatically set that way so you manually have to close it the rest of the way for safety reasons. It does the same thing on my 2019 & 2011 Edges, and I HATE IT! If you or anyone else would come up with a way to reprogram it so the glass roof opens all the way with one touch and closes all the way with one touch; I and probably a ton of other owners would be Extremely Grateful! Thank You for creating these videos, much appreciated! 😉🤗

thank you so much this worked for me on a 2016 ford edge, i work at a ford dealership and this came in customer states the sunroof won’t close so i greased the tracks which helped some but would stop at about 3/4 closed then i knew it had to be calibrated searched all over and finally found this video and it worked like a charm thank u

Lubing the tracks in the rear does the most good. I get silicone spray and use a nozzle/straw to stick between the rubber and point it at the tracks....it's worked miracles for quite a few of them for me.

@@SealofPerfection yup that’s what i did the back tracks in between the rubber is where it was really dry and dirty which fixed the first problem then the second one got fixed by the button sequence thank you again

Question, I have 2021 F150 Lariat that had the 2 glasses broken. I clean all the area a d everything was working all rails and shade. Them ai disconnected the battery and removed the headliner and replace the 2 glasses and then plug everything back and then put the battery on and the sunroof does not open at all, ai try once and it open halfway and then nothing happen, does no open the shade and does not make any sound! Any thoughts? Do I need to re-program? Will this step will work? Or what do you think could be? I really appreciate

@pacfanweb cannon stop in the middle if I don’t want the glass to open? If I don’t press it the second time after running the shade down and back, can I exit? My panoramic shade will only close to the first stop but we have an issue with the glass that the dealership has already quoted so I don’t want to inadvertently pop it open. It was a beast to get closed the first time.

Okay, it only closes to the first stop because it "thinks" the glass isn't fully shut. And it probably isn't. You can exit anytime you want from the process. It just won't be programmed fully.

Hoping you can help. I’m pulling my hair out. Have a 2019 Edge. Got it end of December 2019 after it sat on the lot for almost a year. Picked it up and haven’t really driven it (only 4K miles). However, I had no issues with panoramic roof until summer (it seems the issue is temperature related but I’m not sure). In any event, when I drive there’s a horrible creaking noise. This video by another user captures the issue exactly. When I open or tilt it, creak goes away. Have you dealt with this issue and/or can you recommend anything to stop the creaking? I haven’t had luck with two dealers yet as they can’t isolate the issue. Thank you very much for your help. This problem is literally driving me nuts! Jason

@@jayle9510 Look at the concertina blinds. Those are the accordion things on either side. The roof in that video, they are visibly broken. Remove them totally if yours are broken...it doesn't need them to operate. All they do is cover up the greasy mechanism...if you have enough sense to not stick your hands in there, they aren't helping you. So remove them and see if the noise stops. There's a hard plastic piece on the top of them that clips to the glass, the softer lower part connects to the track.

Pacfanweb thanks. My roof doesn’t have the blinds you’re referring to. My escapes did but this one would allow me to stick my fingers in the track while in motion. Did you see video i posted? From another user but it’s the exact issue I’m dealing with. Ford wants to take the interior apart - including removal of the seats - and I’m petrified I’ll have 5 other issues to deal with.

Pacfanweb no. No accordion type plastic/rubber. All three of my escapes (13, 15, 17) had them but the edge does not. It creaks when closed but if I vent of slide the noise disappears. The video I shared from Marcelo is the exact issue but no one seems to have remediated. It’s driving me crazy!

So last night on my 2015 ford edge the glass and the shade worked fine. I got home, the glass wouldn't shut all the way but the shade would. This am the glass shut all the way, but now they both won't open . Any suggestions? should I try a reset for 2015 Ford Edge? Should I try this reset?

If the glass is even a little bit open, the shade will automatically be open, but it doesn't matter, it should work regardless of position

2017 Ford Edge - I tried this and after the sunshade closed and I released then pressed and held the close button the glass attempted to open, but didn’t. Sounded as if it nugged open then back closed but didn’t actually move

You don't let off the button when the shade shuts, you keep holding it. You don't let go the button until the shade is back fully open.

Did the motor fix it. I have the exact same problem. TIA

I have a 2016 Ford Edge with the same buttons to push but does not work on this model. My sunroof is stuck open......pushing the close button will bring it halfway to close position then it reverses back to full open. Any ideas for the 16 Edge would be appreciated.

Probably needs lubing. Start the vehicle. Not just "on", start it. Have someone hold the "Close button", don't just one-touch it. Then have 2 people stand outside and push the back of the glass to "help" it, and you should be able to get it to close. This should work unless something internally is physically broken and restricting movement.

Because my sunroof was open and not closing all the way I made sure after the step of turning dome light off to press the close arrow and continue holding (as directed in video) and it worked as advertised. The sunroof closed . Thank you so much for this video!!

We don't have those here, so I have no manuals or info on them, I'm afraid. It might be the same as one of Ford's other models, so you might try some of my other videos and see if those resets work.

Working on a 2017 mkx......... Motors work and it opens and closes. Problem is that at times it stops and reverses once it hits the spring deflector bar up front, tried several times to re-initialise and it wont........ Followed the procedure to the T and it acts like it wont program at all, no bump on the glass motor and shade doesn't move. Once a POS will always be a POS in my perspective but the customer is a lincoln owner and thinks it should work like a clock. Any suggestions besides telling them it is sealed and leave it alone 😂

Might need a motor. Assuming the deflector isn't sticking and works smoothly

I have a 2012 ford edge. The sunroof opens fine. When you close it gets stuck at the place where the net comes up and down. Any thoughts?

The front guides that pull/push the glass might be broken. Or, it could just be binding up. Try having someone push the back of the glass to "help" the motor get it shut. And have the engine running because that give it a little extra juice. If you get it to shut all the way like that, it's just a lubing issue. If not, probably the broken front guides

Have a 2016 ford edge and have tried this several times and it grunts like it shutting but it doesn't do anything more than that. Sunshade doesn't move either. Any thoughts??

How far open is it? The shade won't close unless the glass is fully closed. Might need to have someone push the back of the glass (takes 2 people, really) while someone else pushes the "Close" button. Having the engine running is better, gives it more juice.

@@shelbysmith3277 Well, 2 things come to mind: Either the motors are bad. It's possible. Or the track is broken...the front guide pieces come apart sometimes. These tracks are a bear to fix...they don't come as an assemble, you have to but this part and that part, disassemble and then rebuild them. Huge pain. I'd just leave it alone if it's shut, other than trying to get the shade shut. You could swap the motors and see if you can get the shade to work...they are identical.

What if the glass is already stuck open?

Sometimes you can have somebody push on it call someone pushes the button and help it shut. It's better to have the car running when you do this. But you might have broken parts in there

Tried this on my Ford Mondeo 2018 since my shade for the sunroof wont open when i push the buttons. If I’m lucky i get it to start slidin but just a tiny bit then its stuck again. Had hopes that this video would help me to reset this issue so far Im out of luck! Any ideas what I could try?

@@SealofPerfection thank you for taking your time to answer me! The panel in my mondeo is the same as the one in the edge. But I tried this also. Now my sunroof is going through the motions closed to open to closed. But then when I release the buttons and try to push any of the buttons no movement is happening. Feel like I am so close now haha!

I have a 2018 Titanium Edge, and when I press the close button the sunroof does not close completely, I have to press again a second time, Is this normal?

Yes. It will auto-shut to maybe a little more than half-shut, then you have to push the button and hold it to make it go the rest of the way. Weird, but that's the way they are designed

@@REMTZ1980 That's actually what the complaint was for the one in this video. I mentioned that I thought I was going to have to replace the motor, but after that I figured out that this is just the way it operates. Says so right in the service manual, in fact.

It made the shade work but the glass sunroof part still won’t close.

Front guides could be broken. It's very common. I had to get one shut this week that was stuck. It would close almost all the way, and stop a few inches short, which usually means the front guides broke.

My dealer keeps telling me that they don’t automatically close all the way and it should stop half way open and have to hold button to close fully? What should I do?

That is true. They stop probably a good 10" or more from closed, and you have to hold the button to get them closed from there. No idea why Ford does it that way, but that IS the way they're made, for whatever reason.

When ford tested the production intent prototypes they realised that if the sunroof is fully open it makes a lot of noise in the cabin. They found if they closed it to the first position it give the best compromise between the largest opening with the smallest amount of noise. Just like when you have your rear door windows open and hit 50 to 60 mph.

If this is true in happy with my edge. Because I thought it would be 1 touch close and been pulling my hair out about this

This is exactly what my 2020 is doing won't 1 touch shut.

I've tried to open the sunroof today, and it's not working again. I've done the procedure and it worked. After a few hours, it wasn't working again, repeating the procedure worked again. Any idea why this is happening? It seems to be losing the configuration over time.

@@renaneduardokuhnenalfarth2400 that's weird. All of the module and circuitry is inside the motor. Unless the thing is losing power for a long period of time, which shouldn't be possible without something else being affected as well, it about has to be the motor

@@SealofPerfection It's weird, I tested a few times, and once the car is off and locked it loses the configuration, if I turn the car off, close the door and all lights are off, and turn the car on right away, the switch is not working anymore and I need to initialize it again.

Unless there's something happening with the body control module when it's off, and a tech should be able to monitor that if it is. If they put the motor in it, it's under warranty. Getting them to try another one might be a different story, though.

@@leosotelo362 if the shade only closes halfway, that means the window is not fully shut. Unless it thinks the window is fully shut it will not go past halfway. If you want to get it shut, you should probably remove the glass and fish out the broken parts. It will probably shut then. You can replace the guide arms later if you want, if the lower track wasn't taken out by the broken arms

Any number of reasons. Sometimes the motors just lose their programming. If you ever had a battery replaced or had to jumpstart your car sometimes that does it. There's no definitive reason
