    Nice video. It took me 21 years of riding before I got my first Honda, a 2017 NC750S DCT. It is now in the shop being traded for an adventure sports DCT. Like your friend illuded to, I'll never not have a DCT again. The adaptive response on throttle input, the automatic downshift on downhill when slowing, for engine braking, the constant forward drive on gravel when upshifting and the effortless city stop and go stuff. It is just amazing.

    Fantastic review u guys ,& such fun with the two of you. DCT u mentioned automatic. It’s more in common with a manual that is shifted via a computer. It excels at shifting quick up the gears like u mentioned because the bike is running in one gear being held by one arm . The other Arm has the next gear ready to shift up . That’s y upsshifts occur so quick. A week point is when riding and suddenly excelling with the throttle the second arm has to displace the higher gear that’s waiting to come into play & switch down to the appropriate lower gear . That takes a second or two. Great review again love the laughs . Nothing says my day is starting of great like waking up to another fun rider cam video . Can’t wait to experience your company’s tours with u guys .i can c how absolutely fun your tours r .

    Great video guys, worth mentioning that you can fully override the DCT in manual mode so you stay in a chosen gear, or drop down the gears to increase engine braking. Combining this with the engine braking settings this offers really good control if you want to a more manual feel to yor riding.

    Just add fuel to your fire, I have my second AT DCT, this time the Adventure Sports, I fitted McCruise for touring, works like an OEM part. FYI the DCT also responds to your riding style, ie faster throttle inputs = holds onto gears longer, gentle = early up changes, lots of fun. The perfect quick shifter!

    I agree with some previous comments. Had the crosstourer dct, loved it but it’s heavy when the engine isn’t helping. Changed to the AT AS dct a year ago and absolutely love it. Use the accelerator a bit more aggressively and the dct drops down accordingly. You can even ride quite hard in “drive”. I will take some persuading to change from dct.

    Hi Mark, Toby, really enjoyed the review. I am so tempted to have this or the adventure sports as my next bike especially as I want to do some longer tours both uk & abroad. However would be really interested on your views (especially being tour guides) on the fly in the ointment for me...tubed tyres? Quite happy to adjust a chain but don't think I would want to be changing a tube at the side of the road after a nail/screw in tyre . Is it a case of hope some tyre weld can temporary fix it or a call to Honda roadside assistance (if indeed punctures are covered)? Atb Safe riding Clive

    I have the 2015 NC750X DCT the issue I found with the dct model i have is that the 6th gear can be quite clunky, but no doubt will have been sorted and smoothed out by now. I love the dct, took a bit of getting used too, but now i wouldn't go back to a manual bike. I don't ride in D mode at all, always the S mode which i alot more responsive. I did hear that the 2017 africa there was an issue with the dct where it kept stalling in 1st gear, but haven't heard anything more on it

    i had a 17' model and it would stall if you "blipped" the throttle too quick but it would also do it in neutral...it was a fueling issue nothing to do with DCT, easily solved by rolling the throttle on smoothly.

    I had a test ride on an Advernture Sport one and agree about the smoothness and disconcerting feel of not having a clutch - I really liked it. As this is the non-AS, what was the seat height like for you/how tall are you, and how did you find the wind flow on the screen? I am thinking of getting one, but not sure on the screen/wind deflection.

    Thank You for a nice Review On short maneuvers on a DCT bike with lean mixture injection it is god and often necessary to put a finger on the brake to get full control! in Drive mode you can kick down one or two gears and you are automatically in a sort of sport mode and the engine stay longer in the lower gears the handbrake are a must on a DCT but it is very easy to forget to switch it off 😜 Motor braking downhill you switch to manual mode and the gearbox stay in low gear braking pressing one time with the right thumb and you are back to normal automatic again

    Tip for the DCT: If you’re about to overtake a vehicle, try popping it into manual, drop down a couple of gears, accelerate past the vehicle whilst using your forefinger to change up; and once past the vehicle, pop it back into auto. Job done. Great review guys as always 👏🏻

  • @stevebolton8471

    @stevebolton8471

    5 жыл бұрын

    SBKPETE you don’t need to pop it into manual to do that. Punch it down a couple of gears which is one gear change for each clutch and open the throttle. That’s it. After a few seconds of normal throttle the bike will resume normal operation and change up. If you snap the throttle wide the bike will do it all anyway, just takes a couple of seconds longer. (Based on my NC750X)

  • @SBKPete

    @SBKPete

    Steve Bolton: Hi Steve, I find that if I’m in drive mode, changing down a couple of gears whilst in auto and then accelerating past a car, the bike will change up once again too soon. Putting it in full manual mode for a few seconds, puts you in complete control of when you want to change gear. It may be different in one of the three Sport modes, but I tend to ride the bike in D mode for the fuel economy.

  • @stevebolton8471

    "don't have time to mess around with a chain" i did 30,000km's on my first Africa twin DCT & the chain never needed adjusting...it's not hard to carry a small can of chain lube and lube it every couple of days....DCT is very gentle on the chain and sprockets. My second africa twin is the 30th anniversary adventure sport and i've already put 18,000km's on it touring, my daily ride is a 790 duke which has 21,000km's on it so far.

    It does sound nice.. I tried the first AT DCT and was also impressed with the smoothness of the changes - although I too struggled to adapt to using an auto gearbox. Marvelous and disconcerting at different times. My main concern with the AT is the use of tubed tyres - I know some people tape up the spokes to get around this, but feel tubed is too off-road orientated (i.e. stays inflated if rim gets bucked) for most people's needs. I'd rather have the BMW spoked design wheel that doesn't need tubes / just have normal cast/forged wheels from Honda. I don't understand your issue with chains for a touring bike - judging by smoothness and use of acceleration, you'd probably cover at least 1000 miles in-between adjustments (a brand new chain after first 500 miles and then 1000 thereafter *probably*).

    Jme Be My NC750X DCT is going in for it’s 8000 mile service next week. I have checked the chain occasionally and it has never needed to be adjusted. Cleaned it once and use wax lube occasionally. I had a belt on the previous bike and shaft drives for many years before but actually modern chains aren’t really an issue and they are more efficient.

    I have the 2018 AT DCT, had the NC750x DCT before, and both used for daily commute of 60 plus Kim’s, reason why I upgraded to the AT... never going back to manual bikes same as not going back to a manual gearbox car :) the only gripe I have is that one has to use the brake at low speed in lieu of feathering the clutch and it is not as smooth. Still once over 5 or 10 km/h it stops being an issue. Also agree with the need to have tubeless, cruise control and shaft in that order but only an issue if on a very long ride like a few thousand kms

    HI Lenny Fence, I think Honda have a better reputation for finish. I have seen KTM’s looking pretty rough after only a few months.

    I recently test rode the AT Adventure and it was a very nice bike but it was just too tall for me to feel comfortable on. Also chain drive. I have bought a new 1200 Crosstourer manual and its lovely. It has lots of qualities similar to the AT and some differences of course. Shaft drive 👌 for a start. The suspension is not as plush as the AT but the positive trade off (for me) is that on the road the Crosstourer is much more taut and less 'boingy'. Think of the Crosstourer as a newer and funkier Pan and thats about right. I have owned a number of Pan's and loved them.

    I like the bike, but I'm not a DCT fan. I need to feel like I'm riding a motorcycle. Clutch, shift, brake, up, down, in, out. I kind of enjoy it.

    I’ve had a DCT Honda for just over a year. Absolutely love the DCT gearbox, however mine has started sticking in gear. Back for a service in a few weeks but the dealer I bought it from is very uninterested in helping. Such a shame. Once I’ve lost trust in a vehicle it has to go, and as much as I like DCT I doubt I’ll get another given my experience (with the dealer). I’m fully aware things break but it’s the dealers attitude that saddens me especially as I bought it from them and is still under warranty.

    It is a shame Dervman. Normally the DCT gearbox is less troublesome. On the NC700 forum there are a number of couriers in London that has put more than a 100 000miles on their DCT bikes without any issues. Chances are you get the gearbox fixed and never experience any issues again. Standard gear boxes will on occasion also give issues. It's just mechanics I guess.

    suspension is fully adjustable! cruise control on a bike is for wankers who belong on 4 wheels and you GSA might never need chain maintenance but when you electronics fuck up you'll wish you had Honda reliability then..and believe me they will fuck up, just out of warranty.

    @@MrKdr500 I wrote electronically adjustable suspension, and no, the AT does not have that. I can ride all day long, changing between different surfaces and road quality all the time, and to have different suspension settings available with just the click of a button, makes all the difference in the world. Cruise control for wankers... Wow, that's deep. Guess you don't go touring much, or maybe just can't afford a bike with CC. 😅 Anyway, guess i'm just not a hardcore, badass biker like you, cause i love my CC. I have had 5 GS's, all of them within warranty. I can afford it, so your argument regards to el. problems doesn't bother me. 😄 Oh, btw: The AT will eventually be available with el.suspension , cruise control or maybe both. Just wait and see. Then what?... 😉
