Mustang guy here, and it's a GREAT time to be an American V8 fan! The ZR1 is fantastic along with the Camaro. Dodge has the Demon and Hellcat, and Ford has done a fantastic job with the 18 Mustang's and the arrival of the GT500 is just around the corner! We are living in a special moment it time people!

Just a little bit of education for all you armchair kids who never built a car or owned/raced one with over 500 hp. First off: That rear wing IS necessary to generate enough rear down force to keep it from swapping ends. The amount of front down force is around a 1,000 LBS! So without the rear spoiler it wouldn't make it around the first turn without spinning out. Secondly, even without the passenger, he would Only gain a few tenths of a sec. On average, you gain a tenth of a sec/100lbs. You'd have to strip out the entire interior and gain, at Most, .5mph. Thirdly, the easiest way to gain top end is to change the rear gear ratio. They make smaller gear ratio than 2.41 but I've never seen anything smaller. The smallest posi I had was a 3.08 in my Centurion GS. Thirdly, covering up the opening on the front would adversely effect the handling and cooling of the Vette. Some of the openings are for brake cooling ducts and for air curtains around the front wheel openings to decrease drag. The vents on the side help relieve engine compartment pressure to help the front end stay planted to the road and aid in decreasing engine temps. As you can see, from the factory; and that's exactly what this is about Factory performance; it's as good as it gets...for the 2018 model in Top stock trim.

DjJtown True, but going to a taller gearing will require either a little longer track/space to achieve higher mph due to lower acceleration times. I bet they are using special gearing for this track knowing that you cant confirm/deny it and no customer is gonna take a ZR1 to that track to confirm their speed

The Manual are Free and maintenance cost way less and can do your own service and with a Friend or Buddy than pay for parts and service hours for all Automatics and not a day or hours work... You don't finance a Manual cost as do Europeans with Dual Clutch and Automatics... I like the FTD of Manuals and Shifting..

It won't because in order for it to qualify as a GTE car, the ZR1 would have to be in production for 3 years or more and so this ZR1 is going to be very special and much more limited than the previous C6 ZR1. The all-new C8 Corvette is coming soon as a 2020 mid-engine super sports car.

Mike Wasko 5’The Chevelle was chevys top muscle car. The Camaro is chevys pony car made to compete with the mustang. The corvette has NEVER been in the muscle car class and it never has qualified to be in it. Cannot seat at least four, not made for the quarter mile. They were made to handle and compete with Ferrari. Not everything with a v8 from America is a muscle car.

I can't afford a Corvette but I have a 6.0 in my 2016 Silverado 2500 .lol..I took the muffler off and run straight pipe back from the cats ...it sounds great !! I have a 2019 ZR1 and for 120k it is so worth it. Also a stock ZR1 is faster than a stock Lamborghini huracan, and a Ferrari 458.

I was talking to someone recently who works at the Bowling Green Kentucky plant and they said the ZR1 can go faster maybe 225 but they didn't develop the tires for it

Congratulations on gaining more MPH above 200mph..and i notice it has the potential to go higher in 7th gear with few power adders set to run once rpms reach a certain point..i think this car can do 220-225mph bring 7th Up so it can catch the supercharger at that high rpm still gaining momentum

Yes, it was not a perfect top speed run. In 6th gear it would do more than 215. But not much faster, even then it's probably going to go back down to 215 in 7th.

I would have kept it in 6th for the second run heading more into the wind, it might have done slightly better. If the data was correct, its spinning at almost exactly 6k rpm at 200. 6500rpm would take it to 216.6mph.

Eric Erickson pretty brave sarcastic tone for not knowing what you're talking about. Go ahead and go to 2:35 on the video and watch the speed while listening to the engine. You'll see it fall flat once shifting into 7th. There were still revs in 6th left. Good joke though.

They were short-shifting because the tires were only validated up to 215mph. Can you imagine what a blowout at 216mph with that much downforce would be like?

@@jhill2042 you don't understand how forces are magnified at that rate then, nor how materials engineers create products that are meant to fail above a certain threshold. Tires are validated only up to a specific failure point, and then they are DESIGNED to fail above those speeds. I mean purposeful unraveling of the threads and blocks and strips that make up the tire itself. So yes, a blowout at 216 vs a blowout at 215 would be quite different in nature. One would be very, very slightly controllable in the best of circumstances, while the other would be completely uncontrolled. And quite fatal.

It's kinda crazy how America is looked at as the king of the oval track with NASCAR and everything but we still don't have anything close to something like this.

i'm a ford guy but miss my c6. anyone can make anything go fast in a straight line. corvette has won more endurance races than any other production-based sports car ever. endurance racing involves hard acceleration, hard braking and cornering and back on the throttle over and over again.

Saul Garcia, sorry but PORSCHE has won more than any NOT Corvette. That’s one thing I HAVE to give to Porsche. Hopefully, GM will have a factory and customer car teams from now on - just Iike Porsche has been doing uninterrupted for decades now. I’d love to have a Grand Sport - even though I’m a Porsche Guy through & through.

I see that top speed of 214 was done with the non ZTK package , the small wing version . The ZTK package probably won’t even crack 200

What does a pushrod engine have to do with it? They are neither better or worse than overhead cam engines, just different. NASCAR and Top Fuel dragsters use pushrod engines and obviously have amazing performance.

Erek K NASCAR is restricted to pushrods. They wish they can have OHC cars. I don't know about topfuel, but my guess is that they want the benefit of pushrods producing more low end torque. But trust me, if Chevy made a DOHC LS motor, it'd outperform it's pushrod equivalent. The advantages of pushrods are more low end torque and small size/lower weight. While both are great, the advantages of OHC engines outweigh the numerous downsides of a pushrod engine from a performance perspective. That said, if you don't track your car and don't drive at redline all the time, you will never experience most of the downsides. The bowtie knows this, which is why they haven't swapped to a "more advanced" design.

Not really, the biggest thing your trying to overcome at those speeds is drag and wind resistance, rolling resistance such as weight only plays a small part

Imagine if there was another ZR1 to draft off of to get higher top speeds

It never touching 8th gear so why adding 8th gear?
