Even if you had warm tires, those airstrip surfaces are a far cry from a prepped drag strip. Definitely need to take that to a proper strip when you get home to really get some proper numbers for the all important 0-60 and 1/4 mile, though I’m much more interested to see what it does on some road courses.

Great video and amazing car. 3.70 - 2.60 = 1.1s 11.45 - 1.1s = 10.35s Sadly, that's not how it works when it comes to 1/4 mile drag racing. Also remember that if the speed/time tracker in the car is not GPS based, it is measuring wheel speed, which includes loss of tire traction, making it faster/quicker than it is. .

If you plot his numbers vs. Amelia's....his logic is actually pretty accurate. But he's assuming a perfect launch. So, in an approximate sense, his numbers are very plausible. As far as 1/2 mile Vmax...I doubt there is very little loss of traction. But the PDR has been wildly variable vs. Dragy or other Vbox data...but it has also been accurate at times. Just not a super reliable source.

Those times are likely on a specially prepared track surface. You could hear the car struggling for rear grip on acceleration throughout first gear as the TCS intervened. But still, sub-4 seconds to 60 and 11.4 in the 1/4mi with a completely stock car on some airfield in the middle of nowhere is quite impressive!

Good stuff Austin. But I think you should have bought a black basic wing from stock package. So you can change it up and run quarter mile and half mile digs without the big wing as drag. I think it's the same type of package on the back as the Mustangs. Were the wing bolts up on the deck lid, there should be a couple of bolts where the wing bolts up to. You could probably Bolt the stock wing in the same spot. That would probably give you maybe another 10-20 mph. How did it feel digging out of the hole. Could you have turned the launch control up to like 5 grand or more and use the stock slip or give it more dig with more percentage? Otherwise dude good stuff bro thanks a lot well appreciated!

It's over twice the price stock I believe. Then probably over 50k in mods. If speed is the ultimate goal in this case, 50k into this half priced Lambo would make it run like that Lambo. But I'd rather get a Kawasaki H2 Carbon and Mod and tune it for under 75k to go to the next adrenaline level. These modern machines are all to capable and I've been in a modded R8 like that Lambo that completely took the car adrenaline experience to the top level. Crazy stuff right here.

I really like the Z06 and would love to own one. I'm holding out hope that I may possibly be able to get once sometime next year. However, these are my takeaways. I've been calling it out over the underwhelming torque figures and this race against the GT500 confirmed my suspicions. The Z06 will NOT be a straight line monster. While one may argue that it never intended to be, I argue that it really should have all the boxes checked. You can't give away that much straight line performance and expect to be taken seriously. While the Porsche GT3 is similar to the Z06 in some respect it is extremely fast in a straight line. We're talking real world and not spec sheet brochure sales copy. Even in those cold conditions a GT3 would not have gotten walked that badly. I do think the Z06 will excel around small to mid-size race tracks which is why the presser took place at Pittsburgh International instead of Road America or VIR. Taking in consideration its lack of grunt and seeing how badly it got walked by that Mustang, I seriously doubt this is a sub 7 minute Nurburgring car. I predict that It may end up between 7:10-7:29 at the ring. Excluding the GT3 most of the cars killing it at the Ring are forced induction. Also, the gearing seems off with the Z06 especially in the higher gears. Race Teams will probably be playing around with that final drive gearing. Perhaps GM did this for emissions? I would have preferred for it to be forced induction similar to the C7 Z06. In that case I think it would have been a world beater right out the gate. GM benchmarked a 10 year old Ferrari 458 Italia and my gut feels as if it is too little too late. Still a hell of a car and I would love to have one in "Lipstick Red" or maybe "Panty-dropper Orange" just for the attention and the 'flavor of the week'. Even after the last 6 years, I still think the track car to have is the ZL1-1LE. Spend a weekend stripping down a ZL1 to bring the weight down to 3400lbs and add a cam plus Ethanol and there's pretty much nothing beating you on any given track day. Such a shame that GM never put the LT5 (ZR1) in the Alpha Chassis Camaro, but we know why this was done. With 100 less horsepower it is the only car right now keeping that GT500 honest on a closed circuit short of spending $200k. I just can't imagine spending $180k to get walked by a GT500, but my God is that Z06 beautiful. I call it the car of mixed emotions.

@@jackd232 I’ve had the chance to play with a couple of GT500s on track this year and they are quite capable in spite of their heft. You can get non track pack versions for under $100k now and the full monty for around $125k. You’re still saving a ton of money over the Z06. If I could get a spot for the Z06 I would definitely buy it. However, it’s definitely not the ‘World on Notice’ car that GM proclaimed it to be. A twin Turbo C8 would have most likely fit that bill.
