So many people talk bad about this car, and I think it largely depends on which year/model you buy. The 2017 model has a high reliability score, and I was fortunate to get one that was made in Ohio. I bought a 2017 Cruze LT from Carmax for $14,900 a year ago. It had one owner and had 24,000 miles. It has far better power and torque than any other compact car I’ve had. The technology including Wifi hotspot was ahead of its time for the price point. I still own the car today and it now has 34,000 miles, and thanks to inflation is worth more now than when I bought it. Carvana offered me $17,500 for it recently.

Bought a left over 2017 premier rs, fully loaded, brand new last year. I love it. Plenty of power, and features. Things like heated rear seats, Bose stereo, blind spot monitoring, push button start, etc. Things you normally find on vehicles way more expensive. Not to mention, I took a 290 mile road trip last weekend, and averaged 39mpg. Love my Cruze.

I bought a 2017 Chevy Cruze from carmax last june, and I love it, I've actually got 52 mpg a couple times on the highway, very responsive on the throttle, I switched to 91 for the power. Very comfortable and I came from having a jeep wrangler that got totalled, but I love it, mine is an LT has the remote start and automatic climate control for me, I've been staying ontop of the maintenance and it runs on synthetic oil which is cool. Very smooth, also have the disc brakes, I dont like it when you come to a stop, the car down shifts slow and sometimes it doesn't stop quickly. But very responsive handling and brakes for emergency stops, it will move out the way. The stock tire that cone with it, I've enjoyed them, lots of grip, specially in rain. Never lost grip. I like that when the gas light comes on the computer shuts down the turbo to conserve fuel, soon as you fill it and the light turns off, it's back to normal. Also easy to swap performance parts, I've not had any issues changing parts. Love the auto headlights, I dont have to worry, like he said some cars lights come on but not the brake lights, and that's dangerous. I'm happy with chevy , they haven't disappointed me. Service price aren't expensive. Auto stop feature is nice but sometimes mine kicks back on if I dont hold the brake hard.

I bought a 2019 base ls 1.4L turbo in Feb 2019. That Summer, drove it from Seattle to Yellowstone and back got 45mpg. 5 of us in the car, it had to work a bit going thru the mountains. Last year drove it to the Bay Area from Seattle and back, also got 45 mpg down I-5. The transmission is a little sticky before it warms up, otherwise no complaints. It has 33k miles on it as of this comment April 2024.

Auto stop definitely saves gas, you can turn it off by putting the car in L and hit the plus butting to 6th gear and leave it, you dont have to mess with it, the automatic transmission still shifts automatically, but make sure that if you down shift in L, the rpms have to be in the 1000 rpms.

The Jeep Latitude has autostop. I've gotten so used to it I don't even notice it anymore. My wife hates it. Anytime she drives she uses the override on it. From what I've read, autostop gives an extra squirt of gas into the cylinders. To restart it just fires the sparkplug. It doesn't use the starter to restart from autostop.

The 2019 Cruze LS has the automatic headlights too. I got my 2019, rebuilt title, for $8,000.00, with only 4,200 miles on it. So far, it's a jewel. I really like it. It replaces my 2006 Prius. About the only thing that it does less than the Prius is the sound system. My JBL stereo system on my 2006 Prius sounds better than my 2019 Cruze, and the gas mileage, too. (I get 44 MPG on my Prius in the city) Nice cheap 2019 Cruze. I'm content with it.

Awesome video. I've had my 2018 Chevy Cruze LS 1.4 turbo for a year next month, and so far I have nothing really negative to say. Everything you reviewed on it is literally to the T. It's fabulous on gas, plenty of power. I drove it from Dallas Texas to Nashville Tennessee last year and I was getting 46 miles per gallon, which is crazy! The only thing that I have discovered so far is that the air filter is a little bit of a pain in the butt to replace, along with the cabin filter. I don't know what kind of weed the engineers at GM or smoking when they design the car. so you have to be very careful when you're replacing both of those filters. the Auto Stop like you mentioned is Kind of dumb. that's literally another thing that bothers me, but it's not a complete deal-breaker for me. I realize GM hasn't been setting the bar very high for quite some time on quality, but I really think that these cars are underestimated. once again thank you very much for your honest review.

The engine air filter isnt that hard to replace, just unclip and slide up that aux intake hose that connects from air box to the front grille. After that its cake and takes all of 2 mins. Now the cabin air filter, forget it. I ended up just not even wasting the time since you have to remove quite a bit of trim pieces AND the glovebox and Ive learned from experience that those cheap plastic clips, once popped out, even if done correctly, never seat back right and the panels start to creak and squeak much sooner than if you just left them alone. I just traded my '17 Cruze LT in with 33k miles, so its someone elses problem now lol

I'm not sure why people hate auto stop so much (the biggest issue seems to be paranoia, which may or may not be justified). What I can tell you is when my fuel sensor went bad, it disabled the auto stop, so I imagine if the auto stop broke independently, it wouldn't brick the rest of the car.

  • @imnotmelvin3

It intrigued me to hear your comment about how the Cruze lets off the power, shifts, then powers back on. My 2018 Hyundai Elantra 6-spd auto does the exact same thing. It's the first car I've ever owned that does that and I found it very unnerving for the first few months of ownership. I've sorta gotten used to it, but I can't say I'm a fan of how it feels while accelerating. The 2.0L 4cyl in my Elantra gets phenomenal gas mileage as well. In stop and go city traffic with AC on, it' gets 30mpg. Doing a long highway trip with AC on, it gets over 45mpg. All of these compact cars these days seem capable of exceeding 40mpg, which is fantastic.

Hyundai/Kia (pretty much the same) have been slowly getting better and really became great in the 2014 model year once they resolved some issues. The 6 speed automatic is know for being a little sluggish, but is mass produced on a large scale and is generally considered indestructible. And hey, even if it isn't, it's a really common transmission so repair cost will be less, even if only a little less.

Yes but the Auto start stop is one of the best than any other auto start stops. Because so many other reviewers love how quick it is. And non laggy it is. Like as soon as you let off not even a split second. It turns back on faster than any other car company. I’d give GM an A+ for the auto start stop but the one thing I don’t like is that it has plastic on the top of the door panel. Everywhere else I don’t care about. I just wish it was a really soft plastic touch instead of it being a hard smooth plastic touch.

Hopefully we will have it by the week end, we teas drove it and I loved the way it handled and the interior is just beautiful. I am not a car guy so I appreciated this review, having been around the block more than a couple of times, I understand it is impossible to please everyone all the time so just keep doing what you're doing, never mind the a holes who disrespect you, I think some folks just go online to spout off at anything. It's fine to disagree with someone but recently the world seems to be very...uptight, relax, those who don't agree with the review can say so without being belligerent, some have differing opinions. or experiences, thats cool but there is no need to disrespect, as someone who is not mechanically inclined, I found this review helpful and I think I have watched just about every video posted on this car, so far there is not a whole lot of very negative stuff written about it. My wife will be driving the car as a commuter and I believe the car will suit that purpose well, time will tell. Ours came with about 67,000 kms....yeah, we use metric in Canada eh... so we still have some warranty left on drive train. hopefully we will like the car.

I own a 2017 Cruze Premier and I love it. The only thing I hate about it is the auto-stop "feature" but, thankfully, that's easily bypassed. All you do is move the transmission shifter into the L position, then click the + button on top of the shifter 5 times. The car then drives and shifts normally through the gears without annoying auto-stop until you either shift it out of the L position or turn the car off. It's a little annoying at first to have to repeat this every time you drive the car, but it soon becomes muscle memory and you don't even think about it. This causes no harm to the transmission because the car shifts through the gears normally. The car is a blast to drive if you keep your foot in it, but, of course, your gas mileage goes way down if you do. I love the scream of that little 1.4-liter turbo engine.

The Buick Verano is the same size car but doesn't share any body panel's and doesn't share engines either. The Verano 250 HP The Cruze 138 HP the Verano has a much more silent cabin too. So if your looking for a sweet ride like the Cruze but you want a silent ride and horse power that is kinda crazy and awesome. Look at Verano but don't wait because they are no longer made, so if you find one like I did with low miles and was owned by a older lady who took care of it , you better scoop it up.

I have the '18 LT and yes the power and the gas mileage is great but I cant stop there. It has a LTE hotspot (not the fastest) , It has push to start which can be started from the fob or app . The doors can be locked and unlocked from the app . The app is as secure as my bank account login . The auto stop is aggravating and it concerns me on longevity . I have read there is a fix being worked on . There are ways around it , you can put the transmission in manual mode to gear 6 (you should go to six to open all gears) by pushing the up button on the shifter. You can also shift to neutral or turn your A/C on high cold . I consistently get around 40mpg on my trip to work . This car would be 100% perfect if it had line outputs in the trunk :) Great car so far hope it last me many years .

I bought a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze Premier RS in September of 2021, my first 24 hours the Auto-Stop scared me and the Collision Alert scared me, you can circumvent the Auto-Stop at a light by shifting into Manumatic mode at the light, car won't Auto-Stop in that mode, shift back into drive when the light changes. The collision alert is nice, sadly in the 2016 if the alert goes off when Cruise Control is on, it will shut it off, flash the light and make a sound. I believe newer models have adaptive cruise and collision alert will slow you down. Honestly after a year and a half, I love my car, there were some issues with it, but nothing GM did, more of a fluke sort of thing. Good video though.

Indeed the torque is just amazing to me and I never have problems passing cars. Love the cool hood mechanism which is actually pretty smart! Love the interior design (very simple and nice). My brother has one and it is pretty good. 2011. like most new cars the AC compressor design has some flaws. but it is easy to change and not an expensive part. I've been considering buying a used TDI and I've been wondering which is the better Volkswagen TDI to buy? Better in the sense of less issues and great fuel economy. I really don't like euro cars but I'm willing to give the TDI a shot. Auto or manual doesn't matter to me but my experience with VW tells me a manual is the way to go in terms of long term durability.

  • @mikesrandomvideos

    @mikesrandomvideos

well the TDI is great but IMO it is more for a person who can do some of their own work. THey require a bit more maintenance and specifics than american cars. Like oil even needs to meet german specs or the turbo may fail earlier. The DSG is great automatic but requires the oil to be changed every 40k miles and it is not easy to do. Not like an american car. The cruze however IMO is better for the non DIY guy because the mileage is almost the same little less in the city but more simply designed for maintenance. MOre places know how to fix them. Vw requires special care. Unlike any other car lots of reading but once you get it they are really good. Lots of people hate them but expect them to be like a chevy but they are not.

But when we come to the Autostop, since July 2019 it has failed me 3 times in the manner you have talked about where I came up to a light or stop sign, the Autostop engaged and then failed to disengage. According to the Technicians we have here, no code comes up and they can't find what is wrong with it. I wrote to Chev Canada to see what they can do, but the problem is annoying and a safety concern. If you have any recommendations on what could be wrong I am open to comments so that I can pressure them to fix it. Also a great overview of the car, I was a student love it. especially the low fuel consumption it has and how cheap it is to fill

I am very religious on my turbo, allowing it to warm up and cool down. Lot of people don’t realize the proper care for turbos. The only problem I’ve ever had with my Cruze was a faulty injector at 17k miles.

seems soon for a injector problem. I think they are direct injection and most manufacturers are having some issues with them. Still under a learning curve. But way more efficient then the old port injectors. THe problem is the heat from the gasoline engine and lubrication of the moving parts in the injector. Most new cars having at least some injector problems something to be aware of.

I am no sure how to really describe it or if it is just me since I drive often our V6 which may have affected my perception. Overall, the car is good and still has 2 years with us before we finally decide if we are to buy it or return it.

I think from the comments there are 2 power options for the 1.4 liter. I must have had the high output. Keep good quality synthetic oil in the engine. Like Castrol Syntec or Mobil 1 Name brand stuff and it should last a long time. Issues would be for people using cheap oil change place bulk oil. Would cause it not to last as long. With turbo you need to be sure the oil you use is the best.

When I drove the 2017 Camry SE it felt pretty fast just for the 2.4 liter or was it a 2.5? I don’t remember. But I drove it. I was in LA trying to get out of the parking lots next the the beach houses on the Pacific Coast Highway, and I smashed it a bit. And it went pretty fast with 4 grown people in the car. With luggage in the back. Also. What I didn’t like is that it felt like a rubber band when I let my foot off the gas from stepping on it hard. I was like ew. But I do like it though. It was fun to drive. And it even had the paddle shifters. Which were kind of fast with switching gears. Faster than other cars with paddle shifters. But still had lag to it. The Cruze is something I want to get my hands on. And drive it. I have a 2011 impala with the 3.5 V6 and it gets a 0-60 under 6.97 seconds. Which the new cruzes get a 0-60 under 7.31 seconds.

But yah I had to change the computer in the impala because of it giving off wrong codes on top of the cat being in the list.

Thank you for the video. Just a thought: 150 hp car is not fast, you made me laugh out loud. Great MPG and seems reliable, but would not rave on power.
