    I'm 70 years old and have been riding since 1964. I guess because I'm so old I like a basic bike. I don't need a lot of electronics, just a good motorcycle to ride. I currently own a Harley and HATE it. So it is for sale. I've got my eye ona red 2023 Triumpj Speed Twin 900 Chrome Edition. If I sell my Harley I hope to have the Triumph in my garage by net Sprong. Wish me luck. Ride safe and enjoy every journey.

    Sorry for the slow reply, lots of my comments were hidden for some reason. How did the sale of your harley go? I think these street twins are fantastic bikes and I do miss mine sometimes, I have tried Harley 48 before but it was alot of work and I didn't find it as relaxing. I do wonder sometimes why their brand is dying out as their customers, no offence:) ,,, are getting older. I generally think Triumph is the future i'd happily have one back as a 2nd bike..... Anyways what did you go for in the end? let me know

    @@AnotherHipsterSold the Harley, I'll never own another. My wife always rides with me and due to battling cancer eight times, twelve surgeries, maxed out on chemo, radiation and cyber knife treatments and one of the six places of cancer in her brain causing seizures we went to a trike, yes a Harley. We've had two of them and they ride like an old International dump truck. So I sold the last one and lost nine grand, but it's gone. Sort of like a boat, the two best days of ownership is the day you buy it and the day you sell it. My wife has been working hard to walk again, but in December she suffered a fall, then got Covid and pneumonia. Now she is in a nursing/ReHab center trying to get strong enough to come back home. If (with a lot of prayers) she gets stronger enough to climb back on a motorcycle it will be a Triumph. I like the Speed Twin 900 for many reasons, but I can't find a passenger back rest for the Speed Twin. I might have to go to a Bonneville. But that's alright with me as long as its a Triumph.

    Superb video - thanks for sharing. We have a new 2019 Street Twin in our garage (new rider in our family). I swear this bike has the best from-the-factory sound of any new motorcycle on the market, of any size.

    Very warm welcome to you & the new family rider, great that you do it together. My Granddad got me into bikes. I have mine popping and banging on the overruns now when engine braking down hills . Its hard to capture on camera but I have managed to record a few pops every so often. Second to this would be the BMW Urban GS in terms of factory-sound, but that was a bit too angry to handle for my commuting/fun needs at the moment

    Mine's an ex demo too. Absolutely love it. As an owner of Vintage Brit bikes this is just so incredibly user friendly to ride with bags of torque so low down in the rev range but then (unlike a Brit bike) it just keeps going. Sounds amazing too, though the addition of an X-Pipe has made it even better, Honestly can't think of anything I don't like about it. I test rode both this and the RE Interceptor and the Triumph is better in every department. Paid about the same for my ex demo Triumph as I would have for a brand new RE. Absolute bargain.

    That’s great to hear thanks, I am holding off putting the sump guard on as I am tempted by a X pipe. Maybe I’ll just do it at the next 10k service instead I’d like a bigger tank & cruise control, I go to the Lake District a lot and that 250 mile motorway stretch does get pretty boring holding the throttle open Yes it’s a great deal, exciting the Trident brand new costs the same as ours ex-demo. But it’s a bit too sporty for me

    I just bought this bike, and am waiting for it to be delivered next week. I haven't owned a motorcycle in 4 years, and the last one was a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic. It was a nice bike, but I think this Street Twin will be so much more fun!

    That is a very cool bike but I agree I think you will like the Street Twin more, it has a more recognised history & the 2019 + models have some great finishes. Mine's done 10,000 miles in a year and still there are small details that surprise me. Nothing i'd change apart from cruise control or 6th gear for the motorway stretches. Enjoy :)

Totally agree with you about bar end mirrors, i don't like them at all and the seat is perfect for me (5' 3"). I have the first model ST and although i don't use it loads, it makes me smile every time i do. @@AnotherHipster Three specific problems with the Bonneville range 2016 to 2020 . Number one, problem the wiring harness routed wrong causing strain on the harness near the headstock when you turn the bars. For me the first sign was the left indicator going on off when i turned the bars to the right. The new harness is the same part number as the original just routed differently to give some slack at headstock. Still not convinced though ,as you can hear my harness straining like a ship at a mooring rope when you turn the steering. Number two problem, clutch cable rubs on harness { Triumph did a recall for a modified clutch cable bracket} to move the cable away from harness did not work on mine. Took the cable out the bracket. Third problem ,the headlight brackets have a casting ridge on the inside you guessed it rubbing on the harness. Some owners have ground the ridge down with a Dremel as i have. [Interestingly the new 2021 models have redesigned headlamp brackets wonder why}.I do like my Triumph but some owner issues has spoiled the experience for me ,and i am not convinced the harness problem has gone away permanently. If it happens again it will get fixed then gone ,hope the new Trident proves to be more reliable.

    If you want a bike that has shite suspension and you have to dismount to help it round corners, the Scout is for you. The first thing to touch down is your boot. This gets thrown forcibly behind you from the impact, I think because of the folding pegs. I spent thousands on the suspension which did improve it, but couldn't get used to having to corner slower than a horse drawn milk cart. It has a lot more power than the Street, but hat ain't no good in real world situations. I had a Scout for a year, doing 13,000km and liked everything except those two very important things. Also added a custom screen which lessened fatigue a lot and stabilized high speed running. It put me across the centre line a couple of times. Got the Street Twin 2016, sold it 2018 with 23,000km, bought it back 2020 with 27,000km. I had added bigger front sprocket, x-pipe from Tec, tank knee pads and 70s style tank badges. It's not a rocket ship, but it has enough. 15 Hp down on the 2019 models and no brembos or switchable ride modes but it has enough with traction control, ABS and feather light slipper clutch, which not many reviewers seem to mention. If you are taller you may want to consider the bench type triumph aftermarket seat.

    @@AnotherHipster Thanks, I'm sure I will someday. This has been a rough week or so. The three year old is suffering the effects of isolation and her Mom being deployed to Kuwait. The symptoms are tantrums for no known reason with supersonic screaming. Breaks my heart. My son and I take turns trying to sooth her. My Mom's assisted living facility came out with it's second case of the virus. I live only :50 away but the protocols do not allow any nonessential people in so we haven't seen her since early March. Her dementia is noticeably worse. Brother-in-law has had several heart attacks since March and with the virus it would be irresponsible of us to go over and help out. There was a thunderstorm the other day and started another fire, "Bighorn Fire" in the Tucson area which is making it's way up very rugged terrain. Only 30% contained, friends of mine might lose their family home. We see the smoke in the daytime and last night we could smell it. There are four major fires going in Arizona at this time. One feels so useless in these times when the most responsible thing you and do is stay isolated so you don't get sick and so you don't spread it, don't be a part of the problem. Arizona recently opened and in the last two weeks the death rate has doubled. We now have 30 people dying every day from the virus with the infection rate tripled. Boohoo poor me. I have good health and my house isn't going to burn down. You are right I should go make a video. Thanks for poking this old frog, let's see if he jumps.

    Hi Hari, you are more than welcome thanks. The seat is ok for up to 2 hours then I have found it starts to hurt. The same for the pillion bit on the back about 2 hours, not unbearable but it does get noticeable. Waterproof wise I've never had a wet seat after bike sits in the rain and its easy to clean

  • @pateris

    @pateris

    I've done very long rides on mine (850 km). If you are on the short size, it's okay (I'm 1m76 and feels a bit cramped - and I'm no spring chicken either), but really, the seat is not made for it. Fortunately the aftermarket is there ! On the plus side, the engine has basically the appetite of an anorexic bluebird, so long rides are quite unexpensive !

    Is there a tachometer included in the functions incorporated into the digital portion of the clock, only I was under the impression that one had been built into this latest version of the street twin?, once again a very informative and watchable video, well done 👍.

  • @AnotherHipster

    @AnotherHipster

    Thanks Darryl it was my first ever proper video and i'm amazed at how well its done. Re the tachometer this is the 2019 model and it has it, I believe its been a function on all model years. It is a bit slow to respond though so once you've learnt how the engine feels in different gears its not something you would rely on too much. Twins use the high torque variant, i've pulled off in third gear before its a bit lumpy but did better than previous bikes

This bike can tell you lots e.g. how much milage left but once you get the hang of things its a really easy ride just plods along or you can push it harder and really lean it in. Biggest advice is stock tyres are rubbish, be careful in the wet and remember its not you or the bike its only the tyres when its not what you expected :)
