I never thought I would own a Camry but my 16 Camry is one of the better choices I have ever made buying a car. I've never thought of it as a sports car but it has never made me think of it as a dog either. It will cruise down the highway at 90 mph all day long. The best thing about it so far I have not had to put a dime in it and have never had to take it in for a problem. The main reason I switched to Toyota is I got really tired of making payments on a car that was in the shop. That's something these comparison programs seem to always forget about. Reliability!

Them adding AWD after the fact is literally the coolest thing I've seen a car maker do... listen to their customers and accomplish the needed goal, whatever they had to do. Keeping a V6 on offer is just an added bonus. There may be only 6% who go for it, but for those 6%, it's an important part of their car, and thus, Toyota has done the right thing and left it be. 🤷♂️ Doesn’t get any better than that.

One of the great things about this new Camry is the new fuel delivery system D-4S. Both the inline-4 and V-6 engines have Multi-port Fuel Injection (MFI) and Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI). The MFI keeps the intake valves clean (something the GDI can't) while GDI provides better performance and fuel economy. Best of both worlds

Ive had several rental 4cyl Camrys in recent years, mostly SE trim and one XLE. They do indeed hit those mpg estimates and beyond, as I averaged just under 40mpg on a long VA to FL I-95 trip going 75-80+ with a/c on the whole time. One tank of 16 gallons for covering half of the east coast . Very impressed. I think the only 2 cars in it's class that could meet or exceed that range would be an Altima (with it's droning CVT and slightly larger tank) or a Passat with it's almost 3 gallon larger tank.

That car looks 1000x's better than the new Accord, that car was a total flop out the gate. I bet in 2 years Honda will dramatically change the front and rear as it received so many dislikes at the unveiling! It also comes with an available V6 which Accord has dropped and even detuned their engine to put out even fewer HP over the current model.

Back in August I was looking at a pre-owned 2016 Camry SE. Whiles I was waiting for the Salesman to get the keys I noticed they just got two new 2018 Camry's on the lot one a white Le and the other Black Se. The sales rep told me they just got those 2018 in 5 days prior so for the heck of it I test drove the 2018 Se, the Le is bland to me but still nice. They did not have the 6cyl only a 4cyl Se. I also test drove the 2016. The 2018 is sharp loved the way the seats felt and the interior quality. I ended up buying pre-owed 7th generation 2014.5 instead due to the price and it's fully equipped except with a V6. For some reason to and I told the Sales rep the 2014 and 2016 4cyl both felt a little faster and lighter than the 2018 eventhough it has more horsepower. He mentioned the 2018 has more things built in it. Anyway if I was going to trade in my 2014.5 in 3 years and go for this 2018 I'd get a 6cyl

To King of castle: I know the cars I mentioned are made here. My point is, the Camry XSE I just bought was made in Kentucky. Those workers (and their children) need to eat and pay bills as well as all other Americans. I did not buy a Toyota until I could buy one that was made here. You commented (“hope your enjoying your Japanese car”). Well, I am and satisfied with the fact that the men and women that built it are paying taxes here and able to feed themselves and their children. I’ve seen an internal memo (marked top secret) from one of the big three that declares that fleet buyers should sell their purchased vehicles no later than 50,000 miles because they incorporate “planned obsolescence” when they assemble their vehicles. I’m sure most all of them do but this American auto builder is the only one I have knowledge of actually admitting it! The average household spends about 1/7th of their income on transportation. For those that are struggling, Toyota makes perfect sense. I have driven Fords and GM products my whole life. Time this old man to take care of himself and and ignore people with the attitude that we are doing something wrong because corporate America doesn’t benefit from our transportation purchase. Most with your attitude are Republicans and don’t consider the working class or even understand the basis of each political platform. Enjoy your “trickle down” attitude.

Damn the V6 XSE is dope in blue with red interior.
No track numbers?? That's why I've been watching this show for 20 years...
🤷♂️ Doesn’t get any better than that.
i like the XSE Camry and i can't not lie
John Davis, I salute you, greetings from the UK, you are the perfect American good old boy and remind me of some managers I used to work with in car rental days! I like all the retro reviews, especially your review of the 1990 M5 and 1983 Audi Quattro.
Always a great show/review have been watching it for over 25 years at this point. John Davis does a great job reviewing and explaining the pros and cons always a well done and informative show. I'm not sure who would be able to replace him when he retires. Just a thought, have not heard that he is planning on retiring at this point.
I WANT ONE. NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

I have have always loved the Camry because of their reliability!❤

Where was the testing on the track - 0-60, braking, slalom, etc?
Had this as a rental car while my 2013 Chrysler 200 was in the shop because of a rear end damage not my fault. I didn't want to return it because i really like the new style. Inside And out and the roominess on the inside. Loved the ecoboost selection but I've always loved the Camry. Never owned one but I'm looking to get one

The 2016 camry rode hard yet still handled like a Camry. However, that old 4 cylinder was a peach, it sounded great all through the rev range and had decent torque. Now the Chrysler 2.4 engine on the other hand....
Whats the point of giving it more power but then capping it with tuning?
That front end is very busy but the overall shape of the car is beautiful

The Accord is a personal better choice for me. Heck i like the Maxima over the Camry V6
I appreciate Motorweek's honesty in saying it's still drives appliance-like, albeit one with more bells and whistles. I'm glad Toyota has tried to energize the vehicle, but I can't see myself ever buying this over the new Accord.
I love my 18 Camry LE---- gas friendly
This Camry looks better outside, but the Entune is still a bit fussy to use. Also, no apple car play and Android auto? I know the '19 Avalon and Rav4 are going to get the former when they get here. Still I'd take an '18 Accord with a much better infotainment system, and with 1.6 cubic feet more trunk space.
I don't know about exciting. Mostly less boring. They still need to fix that grille. Dare I say, the rest of it actually looks somewhat sporty. That being said, I'd have to test drive it before I considered it over a Mazda 6 or Ford Fusion.
Americas favorite car
The interior looks better than the new accord. If I were to get one it would be the XSE V-6. Likewise, the Accord I would get the 2.0T sport.
Where’s the hard brake and slalom test?? Full throttle acceleration test???
Nice to see decent power ratings even for the 4cyl. I hope Mazda is watching and will finally drop their turbo 4 in the Mazda6 which I still think is better looking than the Camry up front.

Ohh plz. The only thing the fusion has over this camry is a stronger engine.
The new 2.5 SE is no 0-60 car, but from 40-80 mph, it's a very sporty sedan (budget) On some winding, sweeping roads you can hustle it. Much better than anything 10 years ago. If you upgrade to Continental or Michelin tires, it's way better. Great daily that can get 40 mpg, if you take it easy 👍 👌
Good job, Toyota. Good looks, inexpensive price, decent handling, fuel efficiency, and high reliability. I do wish the host would quit talking about SUVs. This is a review of a sedan, not an SUV. Apples and oranges.
This is a Camry. If you want a sports car , why would you even look at a Camry. The 209 hp engine & 8 speed trans works well. If you need to be more in control, place trans in sport mode . Le model which I have is $24k. It is very comfortable and dash is well laid out. It also has many usable features. People making comments about looks are highly personal and this is a massed produced car. I like the transmission over a CVT. It has good storage room and most of all Toyota Quality and reputation.

Seen one of these in person and sat inside just for fun since this is not my ideal vehicle segment. It's a great economical car that provides family sedan comfort and practicality. The design is a little too dramatic for me but I will say the interior is a step up from previous years. Just not a fan of the interior and exterior design.
If the front end looked better I'd say it's the best in the segment but sadly my pick is still the more premium and better driving mazda6
