Toyota gave us the keys to the 2018 C-HR XLE so we could give it the Good, Bad, & Ugly review. This subcompact crossover might just be the best looking one in its class, while it exhibits good handling characteristics, but will the lack of AWD options keep it from being a solid winner? I will be getting one tomorrow I don't need all the bells and whistles. It's reliable and looks different, unlike the Prius.

Great review. I drove this a couple of times in LA imo it has enough zip in the on ramp, great on everyday commute, decent mpg, good safety features, its Toyota so i expect its realiable.

Wife owns one. Between her and me, we have gotten it stuck in everything from snow to sand. As far as acceleration, it's really lacking. A small turbo would go a long way in helping the small engine get up and go. The front seats are definitely built for small people. I'm 250lbs, 6ft and the back rest cuts into my sides and the seat cushion on the side is also raised, so if you have big thighs, they're also cutting into them as well.

I don’t think AWD is a necessity according to experts that report that putting good winter tires is adequate for these small 4-bangers. So I bought a ch-r and I do great in snow and ice with my winter tires on!

The poor visibility and claustrophobic backseats, along with the placement of the rearview camera on the rearview mirror are major drawbacks for me. I really wanted to like this vehicle and was considering getting one. Excellent video though. Thanks.

The Bad…transmission failure usually after the 60,000 mile warranty The Ugly…cost around $8500 to be replaced by Toyota. Even a used one is $4000+ The Good…solid daily driver, great gas mileage when the transmission works. Toyota should be ashamed for not recalling this transmission. If this car had a normal automatic or even a stick, it’d be a great car.

Get the basic one. All of the bells and whistles you can add later yourself for much cheaper, sensors included. Toyota might tack on an extra $2-4K on newer CHRs for sensors. At most you'd be paying $850 for quality private installation. Remember software and technology becomes outdated quickly. So break the bank convincing yourself you need the later models unless there are physical differences that you absolutely need or want.

Good review! My 2018 C-HR’s front bumper keeps hitting every thing from parking blocks, curbs to my drive way when backing out. I already replaced bumper mug guard which costs me over $300. I think this is a ugly problem with C-HR. If I have known this, I would not buy it.

You can install bumper sensors for relatively cheap. The new C-HRs have bumper sensors, but Toyota is going to tack on $2,000 MSRP for them.

Toyota is faar behind as they don't manage to keep your car updated unlike certain other brands. Deliver brand new cars with apps that's not supported/disabled/removed as soon as it's delivered from the factory isn't a good first impression.

i own a 2019 c-hr gle. it is the most utterly piece of crap. after 2 years of ownership and 40k miles it makes me wish i had bought a yugo! spacious: somewhat good mileage?? not in the least. my 1990 suzuki samurai gave 45/50 miles to the gallon. battery is out in less than 2 years, so were the tires which lasted about 38k miles. noises from low workmanship. it has them all. currently, in slow turns, the steering system cracks, rattles and moans constantly. and then there is the ever bubbling sound after it gets warmed up. what did the dealership service department say all and every time i took the car for inspection? they said that there was nothing wrong with the car. a yugo's the way to go. suspension. it bottoms up every time with the slightest depression on the road. the front absorbers (struts or rubber bands or whatever they use to deal with this) is so horrendous and the japanese mechanic at the dealership says there is nothing wrong with the suspension. a yugo is the way to go! i am telling you guys and gals, save yourselves the aggravation of a great looking piece of crap and buy yourselves a yugo!! the 80's and 90's yugo that is!
