Durianrider Cycling Tips what no BB30 creek complaints on his video. I’m curious why you say they creek and nobody I’ve seen with this or other older tarmacs complains about the freezing.

It would make more sense financially to upgrade the entire bike to something faster and lighter. Just started taking my cycling very serious this year, should have done it sooner. I am very happy I found this review, thank you very much. You made a strong case for this bike, and I just purchased a 2018 S-Works SL6 on eBay. Really looking forward to getting it next week! I was about to order a 2021 Trek Emonda SLR 9 but pressed the pause button on that to try this out first. I had a 2019 Domane with disc brakes but found it annoying that they would so frequently be rubbing, sucking up valuable watts, so I sold it after owning it just a 2 months. Looking forward to going back to rim brakes.

I can't get off the couch... It's a rest week. Hope to race with you this year although I'll be racing 17-18 race's I will be doing some cat 3 race's too good luck with ur 2018 season and love the videos man keep them up.

I just got one of these. The frame i got was actually manufactured by specialized in 2022 from a crash replacement which is wild. This will be my first road bike coming from gravel and mtb. Rim brakes and all can’t wait to climb on this rocket. Same paint job too!

Absolutely in love with this dream bike. Awesome build, man. Still, very happy with my Canyon Ultimate Aero 2018. But once I'd had that kind of money to spend on a bike..

Thx honest review, I’m in the UK and was looking at this exact bike but despite discounts, the Tarmac pro disc seems like the better package.. as I am 90 kg..but can still hit 1200w in a short sprint... very short.. 😛..would love the s works disc but cripplingly pricey.. subscribed.. 👍👍👌

Great review, very well rounded and thorough description of the ride quality! I'm looking to buy a 2018 allez sprint and I saw that got one for your crit racing. Do you see a review in the future for that bike as well? I'm sure it's great for crit style riding, but I'm more curious about its performance in longer distances and it's climbing ability (if you ever take it on those kinda rides too). I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate a review for your allez sprint! Great videos though!

What happened to the F8/F10 comparison?

I’m in a comfy Roubaix. I want something lighter/faster like the SL6. But I do long rides 50-100 miles. I wonder if my endurance will suffer on this bike since it’s said to not be as comfortable...

Have you considered the compliance you are feeling might be attributed in part to the zero-offset seatpost? Have you compared against a regular offset seatpost? My own experience and those of other SL6 owners doesn't present the kind of compliance that you describe. It would be interesting for us all to know, however, if we can affect compliance with seatpost choice.

Hi, just upgraded from SL5 to SL6, waiting for my frame to arrive. I"ll swap all my SL5's components to my new frame, like Etap, Enve aero bars and stem, Enve 4.5 wheels. What's your take on ENVE 4.5 wheels? How would you compare it to the Rovals CLX 50 ?

Thoughts of this compared to the emonda? I have a etap Madone 9 project one and thinking about swapping to this. To me it seems like a mixture between Madone and emonda

I own a sl5 for 2 years, still love it. Sl6 looks sicks, especially the silver edition. However, I don't feel sl5 is not comfortable for long ride.

Hi great review, I'm 6 foot as well and on the advice of my lbs I bought a 58 frame and have had a sore back ever since. I also have s works sl4 Tarmac, roubaix and venge in a 56 and they fit me great, I'm at a real loss now, can't even look at it!!!

marnug just get a shorter stem and play with the spacers and positive or negative degree on the stem. Im sure you can find a better fit. Im 5'10" and just shortened the stem on a 56 tarmac from 100mm to 70mm. Makes such a positive difference. Good luck!

same thing happened to me! 6ft bought a 58 and my back was in pieces within minutes! had to sell it and looking for a 56cm on secondary market now

currently i have a scott foil, and i m interest in buying the tarmac s works. what do you feel the differences between these two bikes?

Hello, what's your height and the size of the bike? What size do you recommend for 5' 9 feet?

I can't help but feel there is a lot of 'cycle magazine jargon' here. All the stuff about power transfer, compliance, lateral stability, etc. If there are differences they will be very minor and almost impossible to feel. 5psi less in the tyres will make a much bigger difference or a different handlebar. The SL5 is not 'too stiff' and can happily be ridden for 5 hours + (I do it often). The geometry between SL5 and 6 is identical so if I were to buy one, it would be for the 100g and a touch of aero saving, nothing else.

How would you compare this to the Allez Sprint as far as pro/con?

I cant find anything on the mens tarmac comp. Is this close? I plan to get it for crit racing. I havent done it before but I have bmx race before so, I do have some racing experience.

Twitchy steering is not a matter of stiffness, but geometry, specifically head tube angle, fork rake and trail.

I agree. If the geometry hasn't changed, then I fail to see why it would be less 'twitchy' than the SL5

Nice Review. Would you recommend this bike for my commuter bike and a weekend ride to red rock? Or should i get two bikes. One for commuter and tarmac for my weekend ride

I would rather commute on the Roubaix and weekend ride the Tarmac.

Got mine about 10 days ago. Was on a Supersix Evo HiMod previously (crashed it pre-Xmas). Handling on the SL6 is very predictable. That's the biggest difference. Just solid. Reminds me of Pinarello Dogma 60.1 as a quality frame. Built my Frame up with eTap Wifli, Zipp 404's and Fizik finishing bar and stem. Put some TRP T930 brakes on, as I'm not trusting the eeBrakes with my mass. Can't fault it yet. I thought I'd hate the D-Shaped seat post, but you soon realise that it really helps the compliance.

Hi.. mike fagan.. now my bike is caad12 ultegra. I thought when I'm saddle off, this bike is too make a lateral stiff, rather hard to control it. I just wanna buy new carbon bike.. but still confuse to choose. If I put supersix evo himod, i dont need buy part anymore, especially BB system. And if you compare with sl6tarmac.. should I buy it? What do U prefer? Sl6 tarmac vs supersix evo himod

The newest ENVE's are a decent wheel in terms of specs and riding feel when compared to Rovals (Finally made the newest wheels with a proper internal width). However they are $500 MORE even after they dropped prices to try and compete and dont come with ceramic bearings for that price. Also the 2.2 flex so bad you have to run your brakes open so you pretty much only have the option of 3.4s. Remember ENVE was just purchased by Mavic last year. I will let you make your own conclusions on if that is a bad or good thing.

I got CLX 64 on my S-works Venge and they make my bike look like an actual B-2 bomber, or just like what the Venge should look like. If it had CLX 32 or 50 it wouldn't look nice. So far, I love them. Nice review BTW. I'm glad I chose the Venge over the Tarmac since I can afford to deal with less confort.

@@hd2323 Definitely, yes! I own the 2018 Venge and the ride is less comfortable than the one you would get on a 2018 Tarmac. The tubes and the seatpost of the Venge aren't designed for comfort. When it comes to longer ride, I must say that it depends on how long you can handle the vibration and the bumps on your saddle. For me, the Venge is comfy enough for me. But I know the 2019 Venge is supposed to be more confortable than its previous version. In any case, ride 25mm tubeless tires for more comfort!

Good review! How does this compares to F10? Which would you pick if you could only have one bike?

In terms of the aero to weight ratio. Even for crit racing the added aero doesn’t outweigh the extra energy expended to make a hard acceleration happen. Hope this helps.

direct mount brakes are the best! You don't really need carbon wheels, just get light weight alloy wheels with good braking surface and you'll have a lightweight bike with excellent braking performance!

Enve T is a must!

Is there a forward offset seatpost available in addition to the zero offset option you mentioned? Some of us need a really short reach . . .

Not that I know of. Remember reach is a matter of toptube and stem length. Your seat post is a fore aft adjustment. While one can affect another they are meant to be independent adjustments.

What size is that bike? Head tube looks pretty long... 56?

How do compare this to Émonda slr thanks

CV, Love your videos~ quick question: I'm 5.8" or 174.5cm tall w/ 81cm inseam. I'm stuck between 52 & 54 frame size.. should I got for 54 w/ shorter stem? Thanks in advance ~!

I have a similar situation with 5456 as I am 181cm. I have the 56 in tarmac with shorter stem, however on Roubaix I have 54 with 100mm stem. Check the leg length and make sure the saatpost can get high enough, for the rest, You can do a lot with stems up to 13 cm.

Have you ever ridden a high end road bike with disc brakes? Until you have you will think your brakes feel “amazing”. The F10 is close to the SL6 in terms of feel. However it is just a bit softer through the pedals and bars and also weights more. Hope this helps 👍🏻

Nice to see you. How tall are you? That head tube is big.. My bike is sitting in Zwift mode too! I burnt myself out ha ha ha sitting home rolling my legs out ouch!... Zwift is great motivation to much actually ha ha ha ...

Hmm, I thought CLX50 is the best, why the 32?

I've also been told I have short femurs but was never told about changing up to a 0 offset seatpost. Could you fill me in on why this works for people like you and me?

The zero post just allows me to get the correct "setback" with out having to run the seat as far forward on the seat rails as I can. If you are unsure of where your setback should be scheduled a fit with a local fitter.

I know its lighter. I own a giant tcr disk KOM and the tarmac comp was so much lighter.

What's the alternative to CLX32? I don't feel like putting Rovals on my Cannondale. loll

specialized touts this frameset to be as aero as the 1st gen venge. is it aero? or jus aero enough? as aero as a full on aero bike? (ex: felt ar series, cervelo s5)

Keeping it honest, I cant feel how "aero" something is at this level (most bikes are very areo at this point). However Im SURE its making a huge difference, and it can sometimes can show in Strava segments via top speed, but I cant really feel it while its happening.

that is a fair assessment. i went from a round tube bike to a aero bike (FELT AR1) and i can definitely feel it on my training route (beach with headwinds). i would consider this bike as a possible future upgrade.

im riding the S-Works Venge Cavendish Special Edition Limited from 2015 also, and i can tell you, my new Tarmac SL6 is more aero than the Venge !

I just got the 2016 purple Allez Sprint 58 frame like your old one and can't wait to swap over the parts from my Speedx Chinese bike with Ultegra di2. Love the bike but they f'd up with the sizing recommendations and it's a bit to big with the 59 really being a 61/62. I'm wondering if the Allez will be too harsh on rides that are 60+ miles?

Allez is a very good bike there’s a team out of austin called elbowz they race on the allez and they love it. No complaints and they win races all the time. I’m sure specialized would not give a lower quality bike to a team it sponsors. So that tells me the Allez is a wonderful rig.

Slammed for position and looks. Nah I'm going to have this bike for a few years.

My wife wanted a new road bike. Got her a 2020 SL6. She is complaining about her bike is super twitchy.

I have a 2016 SL4 Roubaix, first road bike. With regards to compliance and comfort. How would the Tarmac compare? I like long rides 100kms+ and do hills here in Oz. I know the Tarmac will be quicker, sharper and lighter. By the way I am 53, a mamil.

The older 2018 sl6 disc tarmacs are alot better, sleeker, and more aero than the 2020/2021 sl6 tarnac...the integrated d-shape seat post was sleeker on the older sl6...similar to the sl7 and venge..the sl6 is now considered an entry road bike..smh..and they discontinued the venge(no more aero)

Hi. So it's April 04/08 and no disc bike available so I got the Pro rim brake for $5500 OTD :) . Coming off a 2012 Tarmac Expert. Should be faster and more powerful yes haha??!?!? Also got some PowerTap P1 pedals and got a max pwr of 621W and NP or 225W over a 2hr 32mi ride with 2200ft climbing. Thoughts? Ty

2019 or 2020 Specialized will come out with the SL7 Tarmac S Works Fact 13, 250 Grams lighter better and faster than its predecessors! Bullshit the manufactures are making small changes to their road bikes, to brainwash the consumer! I have the 2017 Specialized Tarmac S Works SL5 with Full Shimano Dura Ace R9100 mechanical group set, size 58 CM! I use to Race Cat 1 UCI for 4 years and was sponsored by a top notch bike company! I’ve ridden countless and countless types of road bikes from different manufactures and my Tarmac is better in every aspect and performance! Ridden my Tarmac for 10 months, since I purchased it New, put on 7000 miles! In my opinion it is the best road bike on the planet! The new SL6 Tarmac looks more like a Aero Endurance Road Bike! Making and designing a road bike for 2 purposes into 1 bike is useless and defeats its form, function, and design! Manufactures think, we the consumer for extra money to throw away! Ride what best for you on your budget and purpose! The New Tarmac looks Ugly, plus being 200 grams lighter than the SL5 is ridiculous! New carbon material, Jargon! I’ve ridden my Tarmac 100 to 200 miles countless times, rides and performs astonishing in every area! My back, legs, and body don’t hurt one bit! Glides and performs like a F35 fighter jet! Love it!
