2018 Nissan Frontier: Entry Level Pickup Bargain
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Back in the 1980’s, little pickup trucks were all the rage - a remnant of the oil crisis, the small, nimble and very-useful trucks were ubiquitous. Over time, as oil prices fell, the little trucks fell out of favor as well. A few are still available here, and actually mirror offerings from around the globe. This Nissan Frontier, even though it was redesigned in 2014, is essentially unchanged since 2004. And in some ways, that’s a good thing; especially if you get a base model like our test truck.
When I say base model, I mean it - we’re talking crank windows, no power locks - a real throwback to the way this truck would have been in the 80’s and 90’s. The only real giveaways are the (small) LCD-screen display on the radio, mandated backup camera and traction control.
Even the transmission is only a 5-speed (manual). We found this somewhat endearing in this day and age of $50k-and-up pickups. Here’s an under $20k truck, with room for more than two adults and a decent bed for payload...
Thanks for watching!

keep a simple truck Nissan! If people want flashy they can buy a titan. lots of us still buy these because we can get a brand new truck for under $25000 for work or doing simple hauling tasks. Don't change these if it will raise the costs $6000

Have a 2019 frontier, bare bones , it’s an awesome and very comfortable truck. I use it to get furniture, and other light truck use. Mostly for a moderate commute. It’s perfect for me.. no complicated systems to learn, all the conveniences I need... and it’s great looking!

You really need to educate yourself on generations of Frontiers. The second Gen trucks are from 1999 to 2004, third gen is actually 2005 to present. The current design is really the same truck that came out in 2005. And, don't knock the basic trucks. I have an 2003 XE Extended Cab (Second Gen) with the 4 cyl, and manual everything. She does what I ask, and I still get 24mpg. Not fancy, but, it gets the job done. Please, before you start stating about generations, do your homework. And, there is nothing wrong with having to crank down your windows, or shift. I have done it every day for over 15 years now, even in traffic. Oh, and I added my own Dash camera with backup for 20 bucks. It attaches to the rearview mirror. Not a big screen, but, I can turn around and look when I backup when needed. Thanks,

Can be had for less$. An F150 3.3 can be had for 20k while offering better MPG and payload.
To the reviewer - you mention that this is the 3rd generation Frontier that came out in 2014. I'm assuming that you got this information from the Wikipedia page. However, the model that went on sale in 2014 is the "D23" generation, which is not sold in the USA (it's built in Thailand and exported worldwide). The D23 is a completely new model in every way. The 2018 model you're reviewing is the "D40" generation, which is the 2nd generation and went on sale in 2004.

NHSTA drove the prices of these trucks about 2k because of the rear view camera
@seanvangster
6 жыл бұрын
gvi341984 why would you pay an extra 2k for stock rear view camera? I’ll rather buy one without it and added my own for cheaper. $200 for a double din stereo that play dvd, cds, and rear view camera support. Then I’ll just buy a cheap camera($10-50) of Ebay or Amazon and installed it my self.
@russgarland5225
6 жыл бұрын
That is a lie. I paid 19400$ for a 2016 with the “preferred package” which isn’t offered anymore because it is all standard now. The identical 2018 truck with the back of camera and the lcd screen and all of the items in the preferred package is currently 19965$. So more or less 500ish dollars? If you don’t include the fact that it’s been two years since then and vehicles tend to marginally increase in price. Also the 2018’s have a USB port.....
@russgarland5225

gvi341984 what drove the prices of the truck up 1200$ is the fact that Nissan realized nobody... even bare bones truck enthusiast wanted vehicles without air conditioning or a radio in 2018
