    alex Currence watch NCAA's!!!! Some of my favorite gymnasts graduated this year, but there are always incoming freshman to watch and be excited for!!!2 of my all time faves who hVe sadly graduated-- Eby Price(standord) & Kennedy Baker(florida). I will miss them. I really think Baker should give acting a go. She is a classic beauty(im talking old-hollywood beauty, natural). Eby? She'll end up being like a Nobel prize winner or something like that.

    I think 15 is reasonable but 14 is a bit too young. I’ve noticed lots of girls in other countries peak around at 15 or 16 so it’s a bit unfair that they can’t participate. Viktoria Komova, for example, probably could have won silver or maybe even gold in the AA in 2010 but was still a junior. She had a really upsetting string of misfortune after 2012, it was really sad how short of an elite career she had at her best considering how brilliant she was. (She’s still lovely, but she really had a shot to be the best back then) Did anyone sense resentment when Nastia commented on age restriction? Just me? Also I really like Andrea, I hope she comes back and has another try at the title.

    You are the best from the best country in the world... my goodness, this is how all North American think??? You should go and travel more around the world, that is huge and has so many amazing places, cultures and people... this sentence only says so much about the ignorance of the person who says it. I always said that to have a flexible mind you need to live for a while in another country to value, not only your own country but also to learn to respect and value things from other countries, only in this way we can learn to live in peace and understand each other.

    Unfortunately the scoring system doesn't give them many points for their dance, it's sad but it's all about technical tumbling with this scoring system 😐 it's just a numbers game these days, same with figure skating

  • @astrinymris9953

    @astrinymris9953

    Before the rules changes, the scoring was so subjective that talented athletes would receive poor scores simply because they didn't fit the judges' image of how a proper gymnast or figure skater should look and act. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hJh3s6aNk8W_f6g.html Or Google "Kim Kelly 1992 Olympic Trials" instead for a RL example.

    At first I thought the age limit wasn't fair because if you are ready to go to the olympics and you are the best you should be able to go regardless of your age but when you think about it the older you are the more training you have and the higher of a pain tolerance so I thought it would be safer but when your are younger some skills are easier to do

    I don't know the official FIG rationale for the age limit change, but I suspect it was partly optics. It was embarrassingly evident that "Women's Gymnastics" was dominated by young teens. Pre-pubescent girls find it easier to do the spins and flips than women with breasts and hips. This is why China repeatedly sneaks in underage gymnasts for the women's team. It possible that limiting such age fakery was another motivation for the change. A thirteen-year-old can be plausibly flat-chested and narrow-hipped. By 16, you expect at least some trace of a figure. China might still seed its team with 13 and 14 year olds, but passing off 10 year olds as at least 15.5 years old is a lot more difficult.

    I’ve been following USA gymnastics since Carly Patterson, and since then american gymnasts have become really boring, very powerful in tumbling skills but no artistic gymnastics whatsoever. Hopefully gymnastics as a sport changes things to make it more interesting, otherwise people will eventually stop watching this competitions.

    It's the Code of Points. The athleticism is really enjoyable to watch, but it almost seems like a dog show: "Trick. Another trick. Another trick..." with the "prettiness" factor going down.

    It appears as if only the tumbling skills count for them. Higher, more flips and turns. Sadly the whole thing doesn't look as graceful anymore. Some of the gymnasts don't, either.

    Nastia Luikin is a great gymnast... but I have to wonder why we don't have a Carly Patterson Cup or a Gabby Douglas Cup, let alone why we don't have a Simone Biles Cup. I suspect it has more to do with her dad's being a big name coach than her being better than any other American female gymnast ever. Just sayin'.
