Imagine going from dead last to being one of the best tenors in the BHS. Amazing

Amazing. Timmy, I am SO proud of all you have achieved and the man you have become. I remember when you sang with GHG (and you DID crush it). I so enjoyed getting to know you when you moved to St Louis and standing next to you in AOH hammering some tenor notes! When VS started we all knew that you guys would be something very special. All 4 of you have become amazing people, leaders, teachers and wonderful men. Not to mention the incredible gift of your music that you have shared with the world. I love ya my friend and thank you for such an inspiring message!

Especially coming from you, Mr. Buckner, that really must mean a lot. I love your work, by the way!

Here's a quick story on Tim talking about his role shifting from performer to mentor: So, I'm a violinist, and this one time I was rehearsing with a pianist (who was a professional, she my accompanist for this performance) to prepare for a competition. And I asked her a question (I forget what it was), but this is (a paraphrase of) what she said: "I no longer pride myself on being the best performer, but being the best teacher I can be. The judges will not care if I mess up, but they will see that you keep going like nothing ever happened. Be brave." - Tanya Schwartzman

"I wanna do this for the rest of my life, I want to be *this* good, I wanna sing like that." That's how I felt when I discovered GQ and I've never even sung in a quartet before 😭😂 Love this video

Such a worthwhile talk to listen to. I feel like Tim perhaps more than other society members has his voice viewed as simply an extraordinary tool (and extraordinary it is-I don't think there's a match in society history in terms of modal voice range, falsetto range and breath control), but it's important to remember that behind that voice there's a person who puts in a lot of hard work to keep his voice as good as it is (not to mention all the musicianship that accompanies the voice)

@Paul Keller Very well said Paul. The majority of people out there never even knew he was walking through a struggle. He handled it with class and still managed to sing AMAZING over all these years.

Aw, I feel that part about burnout. Hating something you love dearly is one of the worst feelings. And overworking yourself is such a real thing as well. I've gotten injuries from playing my instruments and practicing too much, and I hated not being able to practice and enjoy what I loved doing. Don't force yourself to do something if you really feel something is wrong; that's the path to burnout (forcing yourself to do stuff when you are being lazy is different). Take breaks. Don't work your ass off 24/7 unless you want to hate your work in a week or two. Well, loved this keynote! Thank you for being so open and honest with your audience, Tim.

Don't worry about what others think of you; they're too busy worrying about what you think of them to judge you! And even if they judge you... why should you care about some random guy's opinions? Take advice with a grain of salt when it comes from those who won't have to deal with the consequences of your actions.
