2018 Lexus LS 500h Car Review
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
ATTENTION- At the 7 min mark I misspoke and say "twin turbo V8". It's a twin turbo V6.
The fifth generation Lexus LS is headed to showrooms in early 2018. The V8 is gone, replaced with a twin-turbo V6. Tom Voelk travels to San Francisco to give you an early look. Will it stem the flow of buyers moving to luxury SUVs? Can it take on BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S Class? Tom drives the 2018 Lexus LS 500h in this first look review.
Tom attended this event courtesy of Lexus. It contains a few pieces of video provided by Lexus.

Car Reviews (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, etc.) on Lamborghini, McLaren, Ferrari, Dodge, Porsche, Range Rover, Audi, and more!
About Tom:
Tom Voelk is an award-winning automotive contributor to The New York Times. His podcast was the first to win an Emmy Award. He also married way out of his league. Now, stop reading this promotional copy bragging about Tom's photography and editing skills and watch a couple episodes. It's much more interesting.

Not only are your reviews awesome. But the fact that you're honest to say when you've used Lexus photos and videos. Much respect
I'm a new Lexus convert. I have a 2017 ES300h and LOVE it. 40 mpg. I almost can't see the need to bump up to this even larger sedan, but it's stunning. The new styling and performance along with the legendary reliability, makes Lexus pretty hard to beat. I have a family member that can get me nice discounts on Rovers and Jags but even with that connection, I don't want the headaches.

The first engine bay I have seen that is completely obstructed by a cover. Interesting. Good video Tommy, you rock.
I’ve already seen another review of this car today, but if Tom puts out a new video, then I’m here!
What is he talking about ?! The photography is STUNNING and much befitting this car is gorgeous.
OMG!!!!!!! THIS IS HANDS DOWN BEST IN CLASS!!!!!! OMG!!!!!

Thanks Tom!
Lexus keeps looking better everyday. this brand is so beautiful compared to what was offered 10 years ago
I have 2011 ls460 was just passed 100k, 0 issues only money I spent was on tires and brakes can’t wait for this , we will see how the v6 stacks up
At 7:12 don't you mean twin turbo V6? Great video as always!

No worries man, we all do it :) I think I would have preferred the car if it had a twin turbo V8 anyway :D
There is some thing special with this Lexus vehicles.
Hey Tom! We were driving back from Point Reyes Station on either September 12th or 13th, can't remember. Anyhow, we saw the discreet Lexus route signs and a dark maroon brand-new LS heading the opposite way drove past us...could that have been you? The car definitely had presence in the flesh. Great vid!

Yup, could have been me, there were a number in that color. If you would have seen one parked at the side of the road with a guy swearing at his GoPro that wasn't recoding audio, that would have definitely been me.
I’ definitely get this car. If I had the money of course.

I am impressed by the new LS. In my opinion, the styling absolutely blows away the bland BMW 7.

It blows the audi a8 out of the water as well. I want to see this car with a two tone colour dashboard and leather interior like on the LC 500 with white and blue leather. Lighter colours brings out the best in interiors. S class interiors in dark or black look average or bland. The same interior in white, cream or light brown or two tone colour combo and the car looks like a different thing altogether.

Design wise this looks like a cheap Nissan compared to the 7er. The infotainment system lags years behind BMW, Mercedes, Audi.

The 7 series is the worst looking of the bunch, so yeah..in that regard. S-Class and A8 are still better looking. Infotainment and questionable rear design will still make people buy the Germans.

Absolutely gorgeous in white!!
Very nice Lexus love the front end
Beautiful car and great styling! 👍 👍 👍

Very nice car but the head/speedo unit looks very small. Did you find that?
Mr.Voelk can you do a Review on GLS 550 or GL 63 AMG 2017
Beautiful car! My only gripe is that shift lever...they should've put a real shift lever and not a leather covered tennis ball
Hopefully one day I'll buy one
Front and side are beautiful. Rear is lazy and looks like past Honda Accords. Rear needed to be as sharp as front. Let down.
Damn that's a beautiful car
This interior is nicer than any Designo S-class but for $75k and in a car that will last forever.
10+ !!!!
Really dislike the Frankenstien pegs coming out of the drivers display. Don't know why Lexus is doing this on their cars... or why more people don't complain.
Good interior. Not sure many Executives and CEOs will dig the external design. The body style look like something rich kids will want. Matured rich man or woman will still prefer the S Class, BMW, CT6, New A8, Jag XJ, or Continental
this is gorgeous af
It's beautiful. But for what reason does the LC get a V8 and the LS not?
@DrivenCarReviews
6 жыл бұрын
I asked a Lexus rep today about that and they said that even they were unclear why the mothership decided that. My guess is that the LC is a limited production car that gets a halo from the V8. Just my professional belief though.
Honest they car looks great until you reach the rear. I think those tail lights drastically cheapen the overall luxurious look of the vehicle.they need to remodel that ASAP esp when competing with the elegance of an S

Richard Genesis G90. Yes, nearly as quiet.
You mention "twin turbo V8"- did we miss an engine option or are you still getting used to a V6 in a LS?
Definitly lexus is luxury with great style.According to me the new lexus ls would definitly took victory in style & the way it looks on all german Cars.
In 2006 a brand new ls was £30K. Now they charge you £50K? You can get A skyline for that much!
How much does the hybrid model cost?

I can pay you in coffee. Just like Martin and Rob.
1:52 - unless this is the autopilot mode, you are giving bad example to the big wigs who will be buying this car. 2:00, 2:10, 2:30 - could have easily avoided the manufacturer's shots, which are jerky even for 24fps, seems that something went wrong while conforming them to 60p. A smartly matched shot at 2:20. Thanks for mentioning the interior shots at 5:40 and beauty shots at 7:00. The departure of the V8 is a shame, likewise the absence of CarPlay and Android Auto. The super-detailed grille looks great on the LS (I hate it on the RX), but the back looks to me like a much cheaper Altima. I think the interior design is for the owner, the exterior design is for the people whom this car will be passing. A car should not just match the environment but uplift it, improve it with its style. This one - not so much from the back, all the expense went into the front.
good 🧐
I think Hyundai is following Lexus in launching the Genesis brand.

7:12 the twinturbo V8? you're confusing it with a BMW.
Do you buy all that toilet paper for each test and return it or do you have your own stash? Maybe they let you borrow it for the shot?
А машина хорошая ! Когда будет полностью электрическая или гибрид электро и биоэтанола, и с материалами не из кожи и дерева, а из высококачественных искусственных экоматериалов, то будет лучшая из лучших ..!

I would think that everything I say is "from a certain point of view".
That spindle grill is probably as good as they're going to get it, certainly better than it was, but it really needs to go away now. (PS love the Brookstone comment!)
@DrivenCarReviews
6 жыл бұрын
You know, the spindle grille looks great on some of their cars, this one included. I'm not a fan of the riot of lines that happen on some Lexus cars. This car is much more harmonious.
It's a shame that it doesn't support Android auto or Apple car play 😩
the front looks like the car has bitten in a very sour lemon.
What there is no Android auto that is a deal-breaker for me and probably many other younger people guess I will stick with the Cadillac.

You don't need to apologize. It's not about the camerawork or equipment. We watch these reviews for you & your content, Mr. Emmy Award winner. I'm also envious that you made it to Skywalker Ranch. I was born & raised in S.F., lived on the peninsula all my life, and have never gotten close.

Well, ultimately things turned out better than I thought (with the help of a minute of footage from Lexus). 95 percent of this was shot with a Sony RX10 III camera. I was a bit panicked since the audio on my GoPro stopped working for a spell (I swear those things smell fear) and then the sun made shooting inside very difficult. I was quickly running out of time to get running footage. The ranch is amazing, a good reason to make a lot of money. There are a lot of things I saw that blew my mind but I feel I should talk about them for security sake. The library was especially wonderful, stunning really. To think about all of the people that did all the craftsmanship on the building is remarkable. Very talented people. The stained glass is gorgeous. I feel lucky to have seen it.
Thats a lot of plastic under the bonet! Holy fuck! 😂
You said twin turbo V8 🤣
Crazy Beautiful Car Crazy Stupid infotainment! :( 60fps goodness what camera did u use ?
Looks like a stretched Nissan Maxima/Altima.
Okay okay okay, EVERYONE needs to run out and buy one of these immediately so I can pick up a used one in 5yrs time. Alas most people won't, because they'll buy an SUV :( I adore the LS but I do really think it's time for Lexus to move the design language on from the whopping great big grille.
