There have been so many opportunities over the years where I could have ridden a Goldwing and every time I wanted to turn them down so that I would be able to experience it on a First Ride and MAN am I happy about doing that. This thing is "all couch, no slouch!" and I had an amazing time getting to experience what the 2018 Honda Goldwing was all about!

Chase Just think of the 2020 mode,l I am pretty sure it is lighter and has more power. I have been flip flopping between one of these and a bmw gs adventure as my next bike both are large highway/ touring bikes though I have yet to ride the goldwing this is a great review!!! Keep up the great videos

I used to ride Harleys. Then one day my girl dared me to test ride a 2018 Goldwing. Soon afterwards I traded my Road Glide in for the Wing, and it was the best decision I've made in years. The Wing can tour, it can carve the twisties, I daily it to work, I take it grocery shopping. I've barely put any miles on my car at all since buying the Wing!

"I'm In My 20s AnD I'd RaThEr TaKe ThIs OvEr An R1." As soon as you started that sentence saying you're in your 20s, I knew exactly what you were going to say. What are you guys doing with this bike in your 20s anyways?! You can't have fun unless youre touring with them and you cant do that in your 20s because you have to be busy with school, jobs and building your life. They aren't good commuting bikes either. I'm planning on buying one but when I retire. You guys are missing out of life if you guys are skipping out on sports bikes.

Also in my 20's and I ride a GL1500. And to the guy hating on it, I've been able to go on a big trip almost every year, and I can carry almost as much gear as in my friggen Civic. If touring on a motorcycle is something you want to do, you'll be able to figure something out. It does suck for commuting though.

In 2004, I purchased a 2004 GW 1800 as a second bike for touring. I did it again in July 2019 when I bought a 2019 GW (F6B) as a second bike for touring. The latest generation is the best as far as handling. Love it!

I have never been a Goldwing Fan. This goes back to the time when it was a "Naked Bike" when one would purchase and install all the neat stuff themselves. I always viewed it as a "Barge on Wheels". Now? In 2018 my view of this bike has totally changed! It's now almost a Sport Tourer. This bike is in my future. If I was just a little closer to the fence this video would have been the one that did it. I have watched many videos on this bike and for me, this is the one that covered all the things I really care about. Good Job Chase! Thanks!

Honda is great at making a heavy motorcycle feel balanced and manageable. I had an ST1300 for a few years and it was amazing how easy it was to ride for a 700+ lb bike. You thought where you wanted it to go , and it was there. It still stands as the best overall motorcycle I’ve owned so far. I sold it to buy my dream Harley (Wide Glide with an Evo engine) which is awesome, but I still miss that ST.

You keep mentioning how far you can lay this bike over. You have to come out to Colorado and ride my DCT Tour in the canyons. This is a sport bike in tourer clothing. I scraped my foot pegs the other day and felt totally in control. I shift it into Sport/ Manual and use the paddle shifters and it like Track Day. I grew up with Goldwings and this is my 9th. In addition I have a 97 Valkyrie. Last spring I pulled the trigger and sold my ST1300 and My 05 Goldwing and bought this 2018 DCT. I realized I replaced the ST and the Wing with one bike that does both types of riding. You can carve up the canyons and then drive to Chicago. I have 1/2 " of chicken strip left and I know I can go further. I am 66 years old and having a blast. Best Bike Honda has ever built.

However this 2018 onwards model looks really good, and I would love to ride one on a reallly long trip, say from my home in the north of England to Siberia or something. Honda have done a superb job of reinventing and modernising this classic 👍

Never in my life would have rode the old generation Goldwing, but I bought my 2018 Goldwing last year when I was 40 because it looked so good and it’s the best investment I ever made and a ton of fun to ride! That was an aftermarket shield on that bike from Clockwerks which is the ugliest of them in my opinion, the 16” shield is what I use and shorter because I have the same preference you do.

I've been drooling over K1600s and Goldwings a lot lately. I may very well look in to upgrading to an older mid 2000's wing at some point. They present a lot of value for the life they still have left. That is, if I don't find a decently priced used K1600GT first. I tend to prefer the 1600 as it's the sportier of these 2 big luxury touring machines. Would still definitely be happy with a wing for sure though, especially if I can find one in yellow. Love me them yellow Goldwings.

I agree. If you are willing to work your slow-speed manuvering in parking lots until you have control of the weight at slow speeds, then you can go straight into the Goldwing. I got the CTX 1300 because the Goldwing felt too big (although the CTX 1300 is just as big). Wasn't long until I felt totally under control wish I had gone straight to the Wing.

I haven’t been on a goldwing in about 15 years. While I was between bikes I would ride my dads in my mid to late 20’s. Mind you it was a 86ish goldwing and had 45,000 plus miles when we got it. We only had two issues with it. First the shift fork went bad and had to be replaced, and what finally killed it was the generator went bad. The reason that killed it was because it was so old parts where hard to find or way to expensive (the one we found cost over 3,500 installed). I will say even at 25 that bike was fun as hell to ride.

BTW, the shield is aftermarket. There are much better options and many with the 5 position vent built in the shield. There are also wings that people use to divert air to their body.

@42:55 Question about riding position, the legs are bent back like on a sports bike and the right toe can get pretty close to the engine block coming out, esp for a tall rider. Does this position feel good for long/mid length rides? Looks like legs might start to cramp... Any comments?

Please tell me you're going to First Ride the CBR600RR when it's done! It's a shame you lost the footage from the last one you did.

Great review. I doubt Honda put the controls where they did without lots of thought. The cruise control buttons need to be far enough away from your thumb so that you can’t set it by accident and therefore you have to set it by consciously moving your hand. When it’s safe to do so.

I rode my friends 15’ ctx 500 , felt super weird being DCT. Felt a bit cheap tho for a newish model . Still a nice bike

that after market seat and windshield both really detract from the gorgeous looks of the stock bike in that color (in my humble opinion).
