Nice trucks but after comin from the 6 speed auto transmission, the 10 speed can sometimes feel a bit jerky shifting all the time, especially city driving. On the high way though they drive like a dream.

Went shopping for a Lariat. Ended up purchasing a 2018 XLT Screw. FX4, tow, nav, 3.5. Sport package has more durable cloth and console shifter. End of year incentives, almost 14K off MSRP. Plus strong trade in price. Couldn't get near that on the higher trims. Tough choice, 5.0 or 3.5. Both have strong performance. Not much that I'm "missing" as far as options. Especially that I could park a nice motorcycle in the garage for price difference from the Lariat. I think GM and RAM also make a good product. I like that Ford has most engine choices for all trim levels. Ford has done a really good job with this vehicle. As far as ecoboost reliability. All the big rigs use turbo engines and can run a million miles before over-haul. Research shows the eco-boost are quite reliable. "Change the oil...." The sound, well..... Did I mention the torque is amazing and with the 10 speed.

I have a used F150 with the 5.0 engine and all I can say after shopping against the other makes is the 5.0 is underrated. What a great engine. It sounds great, good fuel economy for a truck (on trips 21-22mpg), sounds great when you put down the pedal and is as refined as luxury car engine at highway speeds. Drove me nuts how loud the Tundra 5.7 was, even when it was not working.

I get the best of both worlds. That was a selling point for me. So far I'm impressed with the ecoboost.

What else is there? Ram? Silveraydo? Not buying something built by FCA and couldn't pay me enough to take a Chevy. They're almost painful to look at.

I am currently leasing a 2016 F150 XLT in that same color and I believe the same wheels as that one. I wish I could have afforded the Lariat but at the time I could not. The F150 does lease very well. My 2016 XLT was pretty much loaded with an MSRP of $52k but with just $2,500 down I am leasing it for $499 per month. I must say that this truck after 30k miles has been pretty trouble free. I had one incident in which the truck started missing and losing power on a trip. It did not strand me but definitely had reduced power and a miss. I took it in the next day and the dealer said the 2.7 EB had 2 spark plugs that were fouled. They replaced all 6 under warranty and so far it seems to be fine. That was about 6k miles ago. The longevity of the EB engines concern me but the power they produce sure does put a smile on my face. And the fuel mileage has been pretty good in my opinion. I have averaged (per my fuel logs) 19.6 MPG over the life of the vehicle. Probably about 70% hwy and 30% city driving with no towing. That is a lot better than the 15 or so MPG I got with my 09' RAM (5.7 HEMI). I know the new RAM probably does much better but reliability and durability on RAM is questionable at best. I will probably be looking to update in the spring and I love all of the real world reviews that you guys do. I do wish you could do more long term reliability testing but I guess that is what CR is for since they have more resources for those sorts of things. Love the format of these vids please keep it up.

John no disrespect intended but I could never wrap my mind around leasing a vehicle. I recall a financial advisor on radio say once a lease is long term rental. It’s never yours nor are you ever payment free if you continue to lease. For example I bought a used Honda Element nearly 9 years ago $14k. I financed for 4 years and have not had any repairs until this year (starter and ignition key switch $900) I have a friend that leases and has been leasing for over a decade so he has a never ending car payment.

  • @JHuffPhoto

    @JHuffPhoto

    5 жыл бұрын

Joe a lease is not the right option for everyone. Like everything else in life it has advantages and disadvantages. From a purely math point of view the best way to purchase any vehicle is to pay cash. It probably also makes sense to purchase the most boring vehicle that you can tolerate. Leasing generally opens up more options to most people since usually lease payments are less than purchase payments. In essence with a lease you are financing the difference from the MSRP and the projected value at the end of the lease. For example if you lease a vehicle that has a MSRP of $50k and in 3 years it is projected to be worth $35K then you are financing $15k over 3 years. That is a simplified version but it is why some vehicles lease better than others. For example a Mercedes leases terrible because they do not hold their resale value. I am not sure that a lease will be my best option on my next vehicle purchase but I thought I would give it a try on this one. Oh and your remark was not disrespectful in the least.

Best thing when you step up to the lariat id getting a different 4x4 system/transfer case. 4 auto allows the truck to operate very much like an awd car, disengaged the front axle during sharp turns to prevent binding etc. Also. Drive modes change the 4 auto system, in normal mode the front axle will disengage at highway speeds, but if you engage snow/wet mode it stays engaged, etc.

Like they said, if people were not buying them, they would not be priced up like this but I cannot believe middle class people are coming up with the money to pay that much for trucks. Well, for that large of price, I chose to go with a Gen 1 truck, a '16 F150 XLT with the 3.5L Ecoboost, and it's been perfect so far. I got a wad of printed material, on the service records from brand new, and I'll continue with quality maintenance. I've never liked the Ram 'look', which may be a personal thing, but even if I won one, I'd sell it instantly, and buy a Ford or GM. I do like the Ford looks over all the rest, and have had two Fords in the past, a '95 F250 that I owned for 17 years with the 7.3 Powerstroke, and had ZERO issues with the truck in all those years, even after tuning it to 400 HP at the rear wheels. After that a '09 F450 King Ranch, possibly the most comfortable truck/vehicle I've ever owned, which was programmed to over 500 HP. I went a year without a truck (bought a motorhome, so no need for the truck) and was driving my wife's old Nissan...but not long ago got the F150 mentioned above, and I 'love' driving it, with many more options than I've had in a truck before! So...never a Ram for this guy, and I'll keep an eye out with the Ford & GM for future purchases. Oh, I've decided to never buy new again, because of the fast depreciation...so I'll always be behind the ball on options compared to new, but it will always be at least a few years old, and hopefully any bugs will be eliminated by then.

Chevy and Dodge finally caught up to ford it only took them about 4 years. Lol that's why Ford is the number #1 selling truck.

Guys I love your channel and have been a fan since I lived in CO running the same trail as you all in the front range, but do NOT compare the Ford interior to the Rebel's interior! Trucks DO NOT need giant screens in their interiors. The Rebel is a FUN truck, the f150 is a WORK truck. It is about utility and getting the job done and done right. The Rebel interior is in no way representation of where Ford need to start pointing the direction of its interiors. I don't mind updating, but big screens are a cheap cop out on true design and functionality.

The new Ram has a truly next gen. Interior. There is no question about that, but the last generation Ram was consistently listed as one of the least reliable vehicles in the country by every independent group that tracks frequency of repair statistics. I really hope FCA has got their act together on the new ones, but there is no way in hell I'll bet 60k of my own money on it.

They are constantly shown to have the most problems and greatest repair frequency by consumer reports, True Delta, and JD power. In fact the Ram 3500 was just ranked the least reliable new pickup for 2018, as it was for 2017. Come on guys- please review and edit. It’s not called an “FX4”, FX4 is not a stand alone model since 2014 guys. It’s just a package that includes slightly different tuned suspension, 3 skid plates, and down hill descent control (the “unique tires” and the locking diff are stand alone options you can get without the FX4) You can put the FX4 package on XLT, Lariat, King ranch, platinum, and limited. And Roman, it’s the same ride height as with out the FX4 option. When your talking about the truck having “start stop” why do you say “the 10 speed allows that?” What does the 10 speed have to do with it? Ford has had start stop since the 2015 2.7 ecoboost. And where your trying to talk to the truck and you say it doesn’t understand, then you say “you just can’t say Siri, or Alexa etc” actually you can. When you pair your phone (which is extraordinarily easy on an F150 with sync3) then you can hold the talk button for 3 seconds and that accesses Siri, or when your USB is hooked up you just touch the talk button and it’s Siri, OR you can just say “hey Siri” and you can have the system be as “ intuitive” as you phone, Because it has Apple car play and Android auto (not mentioned or shown)And without all that the Sync 3 is one of the best systems on the market for many reasons, including updates that are just done with wifi instead of programming or SD cards. When your talking about Ford not being in the forefront of space guys please show us. Sit in the back of all the 2018’s so the GM/Chev 2018, and the Ram 2018. (The two main competitors) don’t look at the measurements, just sit in them and tell us what you think. Ford by far is the most room! Chevy’s numbers are not quite accurate because they are measuring from the end of the back seat to the back of the front seat, and they simply have a shorter seat for measurement purposes to fool guys like you. Plus look at the flat floor on the F150 that the others don’t have, way way more actual usable space in the “real world” without having to use and optional flat floor contraption that when in use looses a ton of height load room. When your talking about the models Over and above the lariat you forgot the King Ranch also. Plus that’s a 502A package lariat. There are two lariats below that, 500A and 501A. All priced differently to suite buyers budgets. Before you say “that’s too complicated” your spending a lot of money on a truck, find a sales person that can make it non-complicated and show you why you May want a certain configuration. “That’s a lot of money for this truck” please again your talking out of your butt. You can’t compare the 2018 chev and 2018 Ram to it because at the 502A level they don’t have comparable trucks. That would be more comparable to 500A. The 2018 Ram and 2018 Chev/GMC don’t have power telescopic steering, adaptive cruise control, Self parking, a full Glass Roof, power running boards, tailgate step, two way remote start (which you don’t even show when your struggling to start the truck) 2018 ram doesn’t have “air conditioned seats they just use cabin air they aren’t cooled just ventilated, LED Box lighting, HID headlights, Fordpass phone App (free) plus a ton more. You get a lot of value for the extra money. And if your comparing to a 2019 then yes Ram is very pricey also. And so is GM, funny your not mentioning how much the two new competitors are yet your comparing the 2018 F150 to the 2019 competition. And you still can’t get a bunch of stuff with the competition you can with the F150, like king ranch 601A, platinum, and limited you get massaging seats, and they are awesome! Plus the you would have to compare the the F150 with the cheaper 5.0 because it’s faster than the 5.7 hemi also. I’m sure that truck would have the 3.55 gears and the max trailer tow package if you look at the window stickers guys, that’s not “just under 11,000lbs” that’s 11,900 pounds. I don’t know where you got your payload numbers from but it’s not even close it’s 2030lbs with the supercrew short box 4X4, the exact configuration your driving. With max payload package and the 6.5 box it’s even much higher. Where do you come up with this info??? So much missed and wrong information yet again fellas, your going to get me to find time and do video’s aren’t you lol. I don’t have time for that guys, “pick-up” your game (pun intended) (ya I know my writing skills suck, obviously it’s not my strongest point ha ha) p.s.couple of the main things you didn’t show, one of the coolest things on the truck, how could you talk about price and not show the glass twin panel roof, not just “lane departure warning, but lane assist” the exclusive trailer park assist (which is a big deal if you are not good at backing up a trailer), plus much more. Frustrating to watch you guys. Compare a F150 that’s way less guys because like I said there are a ton of things the trucks your comparing to on price don’t even offer at any price. And don’t even get me started on all the advantages of all aluminum. Forget the commercials Chevy does against it, look at all the debunking videos against those ads. It’s lighter and never rusts, ever! Didn’t mention that. You think it costs more to fix? Yes it probably does, but insurance pays for it not you. And you know which truck made of aluminum is the safest truck in the world. Yup you guessed it, that too is the F150. (No mention of the crash test ratings) how about the huge fuel tank meaning less stops on trips. Rain sensing wipers, automatic bright beams. I could go on and on to show value for the money. How about the huge difference in resale value compared to the Ram, you get some of that difference back. Blah blah.

John jay drott Carbon steel is known for rusting. But it’s cheaper to repair and with different metal treatments, you can increase the resistance to rust, which ram has started doing. It isn’t like the late 90’s and early 2000’s where they were rust buckets (like most of the brands were). They’ve all gotten much better. Aluminum is pound for pound much weaker than steel (regardless of what ford says and I can give you a chart of material strengths if you want to se sit) and more expensive to repair than it is to replace. Requires special training. It’s how ford will make more money down the road. Cost to “repair” aluminum is much more than steel.

In my research, Max Tow saves about $1000 over a similarly equipped 3.5L Eco Boost esentially giving you the Twin Turbo V6 for the same price as the 5.0 L V8. Plus, this might explain why I have 100 pounds less payload capacity as the 9.75 axle and additional cooling does take away from the payload capacity of the truck.

Gary Blatt towing package for this is option but it’s basically just a hitch. Locking diff is part of the off road FX4 package. Get them both on the 4x4 and it’s just under 35k starting.

If you get the "Max Tow" package on a 2018 with the EcoBoost motor, you got a 9.75" rear axle with 3.55 gears and e-locker along with the HPP frame. The 36 gallon fuel tank ($450 (prox) option) was tossed in for free as well as a bunch of other cooling items. It was the best deal on the F150 for the 2018 model year. Yes, the regular towing package was nothing.

The STX is the bare minimum truck, but I'm sure you figured that out by now. No navigation, no power seats, no heated mirrors\seats\steering wheel, no sliding back glass, no auto dimming mirrors, no down hill assist for 4x4, no electronic rear locking differential for 4x4, and no skid plates, and no split camera view for 4x4. You can get the FX4 package on the STX which gives you the 4x4 options that the generic STX package does not, and you can also get the towing package in the STX.

Love the channel but better research is needed. There are 7 flavors of the F-150. Starts with the XL, XLT, LARIAT, KING RANCH, PLATINUM, LIMITED, RAPTOR.

Many if not all corporations of any sort invest heavily on Analysis to see what the threshold is on the absolute most they can charge for their product. I can easily see a truck costing $100,000 in the near future and people will flock to lease or finance for 15, or 20 years.... maybe put their home as collateral

If I was buying a new truck, it will be another F150, but it would be a Platinum or Limited. A lariat with this many options is still a lariat. You can get a Platinum with better interior for the same price.

Extending the cab 4 inches is not necessarily true. We parked a 2018 next to a 2019 Ram and the outside dimensions were exactly the same. I'd suggest they all found ways to gain space with more efficient interior design.

R2BA I love it! Quick acceleration. I was quite surprised seeings it’s a V6. I always purchase 8 cylinder, however this time I wanted the 3.5. I haven’t been disappointed. Oh and the gas mileage....😎😊😃

i have a buddy who has the 2018 Lariat with the 5.0.. he loves the truck but its been to the shop 5 times for warranty or recall work in just over a year.. exactly what ive heard from other people i know with F150's.. they just have too much technology and moving parts.. ive had a 2005 titan for 11 years with literally no issues besides reg wear and tear.. ill be going for prob a 2018 titan soon to replace.. as will be cheaper with the 2020 coming out and still has a 5 year warranty

Just bought a 2019 lariat, 5.0, 3.73, 7000lb gvwr. Love it, but it is still new. My last Ford was a 1975 f100 with a 360 v8 that was terrible and made me switch to Toyota, until now.

Any regrets yet? I would imagine you’re a bit bias towards your new truck because of the hard earned dollars you’ve spent on it. But what’s your honest opinion?

Guys, why does this tester not have the ecoboost badging on the bottom of the front doors like they always have done? Is this a new thing or whoopsie on this unit? Honestly I thought it would be a 5.0 when I saw the video thumbnail. Please elaborate!

I don't think they've done the EcoBoost door badging since 2015.
