Ocon at that time had the tyres, had the race pace, was competitive with Vettel, and - what most people don't seem to comprehend - he was _not_ under a blue flag and was legitimately entitled to attempt to unlap himself under the regulations. If Max's arrogance and sense of entitlement led to his assuming that Ocon would cede, then that was his error. Any competent driver should have been aware that Ocon had track position on the inside, and that turning into him as Vestappen did could only lead to either Ocon being forced off the track, or the cars colliding, as indeed they did. I would also invite anyone who feels this was entirely Ocon's fault to view Verstappen's overtaking manoeuvre on Vettel in lap 4... it was a replica of the Ocon incident, only this time Max was the aggressive driver taking the inside position. Indeed the only difference was that even Vettel is not as impulsive as Mad Max, so he ceded rather than turn into Max and crash.

partly at fault? if ocon was in 2nd place verstappen would've gotten a penalty bigger than him, he literally tried to turn into the apex while a car with two wheels on the kerb was on his side. although i agree with you, ocon was a lap behind so he should've given up that overtake

Kimi has been having a really good race pace this late season, especially if we compare it to the 2014-2017 seasons, where he was off pace compared to his teammates most of the time. It also looks like Vettel has been in 2014 mode after he lost the title hopes.

Midaspl, RB have long stopped bringing real updates to the cars. The last one were some 3D printed stick-on floor fins developed within a weeks time haha! It's mostly good circuits, and fresher engine components vs the Mercs and Ferraris.

I am really happy and proud for Daniel, he had such a difficult and dissapointing season. The whole race I feared that he would get another DNF😅

This was an even more impressive race from Verstappen than his Brazil drive a year later. It's become as certain as death and taxes that each season he will be fully hooked up and rapid at Interlagos, Spielberg, and Hermanos Rodriguez.

Max is so unbelieveable fast. Looking forward to great battles next season with Leclerc!

Great drive from Max, but Lewis 2021 Brazil came from much further back, starting in last in the sprint. It's a shame there was essentially the identical collision with Max and Lewis in 2022 as with Max and Ocon 2018; ruined both races.

This was all 2008 all over again! deja vu, already seen, and those involved in Wolf, Hamilton, and Ocon, know it!!!! the key players. I really feel for Max, that was plain wrong what happened in the race. 2008 race hamilton gets helps from Glock, 2018 race hamilton gets helps from Ocon, deja vu, already seen.

@KoalaGuy Difference is Ocon at the edge of the track and Max closed the door so incident was 40-60. However Max torpedoed into Vettel which was %100 Max’s fault

I'm a Ferrari fan so I don't really like Verstappen, but he is clearly a great driver and he was doing an amazing race. What Ocon did is just incredible stupid, I don't even know how he thought of doing something like that. He should have been blackflagged. What a yoke Edit: I know that drivers are allowed to unlap, but they should do that only if they are clearly faster and if they can do it safely. If Ocon was so much faster like he claimed to be he could have just waited, instead he battled with the race leader. This is unacceptable

Also Verstappen was clearly ahead and in this corner you have to go very close to the right side of the track because of the next left turn. Additional Ocon get the penalty.

​@121bham Ocon tried to "unlap" himself, he has the right to. However, there is a slight catch : if you have to unlap yourself, it means the car in front has been much much faster than you all race long, so maybe Ocon felt he was quicker momentarily but he would have to be delusional to think he could maintain this position. The only reason Ocon would do so is to try to slow down Verstappen by overtaking him because he feels like a mercedes driver. Also, although you have the right to unlap yourself, the rules of overtaking don't change : Verstappen was in front at the apex, it was his corner and he had the right to take the best line, Ocon should have accounted for that. Finally, Ocon not apologising after planting his car in the race leader shows how much of a little bitch he is (I don't criticise his talent, but for someone who has never had a podium, he sure feels like "the real shit")

So what if he can't maintain his position? Whatever the fuck that means. It is called a race for a reason. Verstappen was in front. Sure. Did he pass? No. His corner? So to you that means he owns the track? Everyone else has to yield? No comment on that.
