2018 Audi RS3 review from Family Wheels

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

There's a new RS car in town! And it's the cheapest offering from Audi's performance division to ever jump the pond to North America. But that does NOT make the RS3 any less bonkers!

    I've had my RS3 for 6 months in Toronto. I absolutely love it. Great snow car, did track day...1/4 mile runs at 11.9 at 118 stock...which was ahead of stock M4. In 'D' mode it's quiet and refined, in "S" mode, the car feels like a super car and is crazy fun.

    Another great review Paul. I will say from personal experience that A3 is a Golf sedan basically and Golf interior is extremely tight with a rear facing car seat. To make the front passenger comfortable, you are looking at a center-mounted seat in the back. Once you go to forward facing seats, it's not an issue. Love the five-cylinder. Well done Audi for not just sticking to the corporate EA288 2-liter turbo.

    I became a fan of Audis (superb all-wheel drive, great reliability, excellent quality interiors, etc.) ever since my brother started working at an Audi dealership almost 4 years ago, and your latest review of the RS3 here is adding to my pleasant frustration of just which Audi should possibly I purchase somewhere in the future. What a powerhouse this little thing is! What amazing diamond stitching in the seats! What a great (and fun) review! With the lone exception of the TT (just seems a bit too small for someone as tall as yours truly), it's getting to the point where I wouldn't really go wrong with any new Audi out there! Now....S4? Rs3? Q7? SQ5? Arrrggghh!!!!

    Great review of a Nice car! RS Audis are amazing, fun to drive, roaring monsters. I loved my S4...But got rid of it before warranty was up, way to expensive for repairs. While the RS models are amazing, lower end Audis are complete scams, you just pay for the name. I just got a new Subaru WRX and have no reservations about keeping it for 10 years or more.

  • @matthewgaines10

    @matthewgaines10

    5 жыл бұрын

    Quattro is nothing but a marketing term. It means nothing beyond what Audi says it means so you're actually incorrect. Audi has used quattro to describe at least 5 different systems which include Haldex, Torsen, crown gear, Ultra, and a locking center differential set up. All very different systems and technically the Torsen wasn't the first either. So, which of these do you consider real quattro? If it Torsen, it actually wasn't first either so it's fake too. Current quattro systems for North America no longer use Torsen. Your choices are crown gear, Haldex, and Ultra (works like Haldex for longitudinal engines). So which is the real quattro. According to Audi, they all are.

    Personally I would not pay this much for a fwd based golf. I know they tweaked it but it's fwd roots and horizontally mounted engine as oppose to longitudinal, will always show through. I would want RWD and a manual transmission. I love the engine sound and look of the RS3, but that is it. Curious to see how well this aluminum 5 cylinder block holds up compared to the cast iron block of the previous iteration. Most will love it because AWD will fix all there mistakes. Point and shoot. Blake Swan It doesn’t feel FWD based as much as my Golf R did. I’m glad they added a bigger rear differential and send more power to the rear with traction off. I’m weird too and love Unique cars. Where I live there are way too many M cars. I have a whole group of friends with M’s. Before I took delivery I drove a few M2’s and M3’s. As much as I loved them, I love the uniqueness of the RS3. All wheel drive was a bonus too. I drive a lot in the rain and snow got tired of being easy on my rear drive cars. The RS, I can just hammer away and it just grips. I paid extra for an exclusive color and it gets attention everywhere I go.

    To be fair if the same engine was in the golf R I think it's price would be right around 50k us. I went from a 15 golfR to an 18 ttrs and miss a few things about the golf R , the visibility was better, night vision and adaptive headlights, parking was easier , more room for knick knacks, snappier brakes. But.... The engine! This 5 cylinder 400hp 354 ft torque 0-60 in 3.6-3.3 (with 91) The acceleration , the sound is worth the price alone . For the $$$ of an rs3 finding a faster car at the same or lower price is limited. Maybe a Camaro zL1 which is an awesome performance bargain but a roughriding grind gas guzzler on a daily basis. If you want a hellcat by all means a gas guzzling rwd might be just as fast but never a sleeper .

    tinhinnh I was a huge Lexus fan years ago. The RS3 is much faster than the IS-F. ISF was a great car of its time.

    tinhinnh The 5 cylinder sounds better to me. I’m loving it. I’ve actually always been a fan of this engine and waited for them to bring to the US. I’m a V8 guy too, but the growl of the 5 is unique.

    Great car, shame the image is so bad, in the UK most (not all) S/RS products are driven terribly by utter morons. They are a massive favourite of the criminal fraternity.
