2017 Yamaha YZF-R6 Review | 4K
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
After more than a decade, Yamaha has come out with a "new" 2017 YZF-R6. Sharing the same engine and frame as the old R6, however, what's so new about it? For starters, it's now joined the electronic age with traction control, ride modes, and ABS. Forks are borrowed from the R1, discs are bigger, and the front master cylinder is now Nissin instead of Brembo. It also comes pre-wired for an accessory quickshifter and Yamaha's data acquisition module, the Communication Control Unit (CCU).
But the most obvious change is the bodywork. Inspired by the R1, Yamaha says the R6 is the most aerodynamic production motorcycle it has ever made. So how does it perform? Here's Motorcycle.com's Troy Siahaan to tell you.

Gorgeous bike. It may be only a small step up, but like he said if you don't have a 600 and want one, this is the one to get.
There's a point where the ceiling just cant go much higher when it comes to performance. I think the new styling looks really sharp and I'm sure most people would be really happy with how the bikes rides.
I really liked how Yamaha integrated the R6 name into the tachometer reading so it goes '0, 2, 4, R6, 8, etc. Really ingenious imo. :)

I had a 2011 and it was the same. I agree it's a neat little detail that is pretty underappreciated.
for now ,i think old looks better,but at least yamaha didn't dump 600 like Honda did.

Raivons R1 Honda only dumped 600cc's in europe because of new CO2 emission policies and not enough people buys so why spend money to change it to pass. US still gets 600 from Honda.

Proper review and great footage. Great video!
Perfect video! Can’t find better review than this
Great review 👏 appreciate the comparison to the older bike, hopefully, this means good deals on "old bike"

Video quality rocks, footage is very nice, rider knows what he's talking about. Great job.

I would love to add this new Yamaha R6 to my stable. Looks great and I love all the electronic goodies that come with it.
i think the title should be "old yamaha R6 wih new fairing" lol

Old R6 with new fairing, forks and a bigger price tag. TC on a street tuned 600= WASTE OF MONEY!

Not really. I have lost the rear end a number of times on my 600s. In the wet on tarmac seams, Donington park I got away with a highside, Sprinting your tyres are stone cold. Yes for dry weather street riders, maybe not needed.

These bikes are pussy cats below 7000 revs. Keep an eye on the road surface, tire temp and wear, OH, and train your wrist. I'm just being a grump.I Hate the new crap because it can't be fixed.I don't even want know what problems with a TC system would cost to rectify. Even fuel injection kinda pisses me off. That said, I Love my 09 R6 and this one is probably great to. I just miss being able to take care of my bike myself, without spending a fortune.

The thing is that they rarely go wrong. My 10 year old Nissan 350Z has TC and an internal gyro. It works so well that I had to cut a wire to turn it off :D So I'm happy with the technology because it proves itself reliable :)

jim james theyre not bad to work on. you know there is built in diagnostic feature? it allows you to test all of the sensors, coils, injectors, relays etc via the instrument cluster.
I have an 07 R6 that still looks and feels great to ride. The new updates are pretty nice though.

Thanks! The Yamaha folks aren't blind to the fact many will perceive it the same way I did. That said, the R6 is still a rad motorcycle. Adding traction control, ABS, optional quickshifter, CCU, and new styling are all cool new features, IMO.
WOW! The track never looked this green! Thank you rains :-)
Shaving weight by lightning the tires is so bloody cheesy - so you're getting a weaker version of the same tire with less tread so that they can hit their weight goals? NOT COOL.

great review troy
A triumph 675r and a ninja zx6r 636 are roughly the same price and this bike is the best bike you can buy with the features it has. If you're looking for a new 600 and you've never owned an r6 then this is THE bike to get in the middleweight class. 90% of the people complaining have probably never even thrown a leg over an r6 let alone ridden/owned one

Hi bit of a random question but in your opinion do you think It would be wise for me to go straight into starting out with an R6? I love the whole bike and have wanted one for ages but have no riding experience other than a 125cc scooter when I was younger
Thanks for the 4k. 60fps next time maybe?! lol And also for the sincere review, mentioning that the '16 "old" bike remains a good option even over a "revised" new bike.
Great video... What kind of laptimes are you getting at Thunderhill? Did you run Bridgestone oem for your fast laps?
the only think i love is the speedometer look very awesome...have gear indicator..very looking forward to see on 2016 r6
Horas lae Siahaan, greetings from Indonesia. Love the bike.
good honest review! what cameras are you using for this video?
Siahaan . love it XD horas lae
I really really like this new body design. I've always had some problems with that eye'ey look on the 2016 model (though the 2009ish models are great).
The only way to make the R6 "new" and/or better is to make it crossplane firing pattern like the R1, and also make it rev to 20k RPM. Other than that, it's the same bike as the years before.
@LockieNZ
7 жыл бұрын
20k would be nice, but at those kinds of revs, you're putting an exponential amount of stress on the engine. It wouldn't last long, provided the valves don't start bouncing before then.
@thegameroom7647
7 жыл бұрын
A crossplane engine wouldn't benefit a 600.
@mrvwbug4423
7 жыл бұрын
The cross plane crank won't benefit a 600, it doesn't have the torque surge of a liter bike. The R1 gives up some high rpm performance for that cross plane crank, but the benefit of the smoother torque curve helps make the bike more ridable and faster for most riders (same reason for the "big bang" motors in MotoGP). The crossplane twin on the FZ-07 is a sound thing, it makes it sound like a V-twin instead of the underwhelming sound you get from something like the Ninja 650. The FZ-09 isn't different from other triples, despite Yamaha marketing hype, standard triple firing order already is fairly close to "crossplane"
@joshlewis5065
7 жыл бұрын
TheGameRoom well even if the crossplane won't help, it needs to change somehow besides looks or a few millimeters here and there. It's getting stale
@thegameroom7647
7 жыл бұрын
What could they actually do to it? Stale or not from whatever viewpoint you hold, it's already outpacing everything else in the 600cc sportbike class so nothing actually needs to change. Over the course of 06-16 they made a lot of small changes to the engine here and there but it's completely sound and does exactly what it sets out to do. There's a rather large difference between want and need, it doesn't need to change, there's absolutely no logical or rational justification for it to need a new engine. You can want a new motor in this bike but they're already pushing everything they possibly can out of a 600. Aside from introducing a 750cc displacement to the market, the R6 is perfectly sound as is.
GREAT VIDEO!
Love that onboard cam. Wouldn't mind an onboard lap video
Beautiful in white, so did the 09 with red seat. Made me buy one (charcoal).
The bottom willows looks gorgeous due to all the rain.
BLACK R6 looks dope ❤️😍
For tuff streetriding, would you recommend a 600cc or a 1000cc sportbike?
Hi from England... Is this white colour only available in america?? I looked everywhere in UK but can't find this colour from dealers just the standard blue or black ones...
I wonder if the new fairings and fairing stays can bolt up to the old r6
the only thing i love about this new r6 is. that nice rear end 💛 😁
black looks stunning
How's the vibration on this bike? I have a CBR 650f and on the highway it sits between 5-8k rpm and has terrible buzz in both the foot pegs and the handlebars but especially in the bars. I find myself lifting my left hand off the handle when I can due to the almost numbing/painful vibrations, and my right elbow recently got really bad tennis elbow from riding this bike (granted I did spend a few hours on the highway in a tuck position which the clip ons are not in a good position for tucked riding). Does the R6 have bad handlebar vibration (is it just a normal sport bike thing) or is it reasonably smooth and not aggressive or painful like my cbr 650f?
The cockpit view is 👌😍
What are they going to change to make the engine better? While following the same rules in the same class?
So the tyres, are they available aftermarket? As you stated that they're not the standard ones you would get off the shop floor? Is the weight difference only until you need new tyres ? xD
i love what they did to the headlights
Love the video guys, but for everyday use is it still as uncomfortable as the old R6?
Thank you for an honest and excellent review. Last year I really hoped Yamaha would put a three cylinder engine in this new R6... I'd buy it ASAP if they did.

Surprised he didn't mention the seat width difference. I've got a 2011 and I would think a narrower seat would be very noticeable
Thunder hill does look like a nice track, buttonwillow is cool, but i need to hit thunderhill with my 2016 60th anniversary R6 :)
love the mirror lights
just picked one up with the same color. Love it but coming from Honda Ive got to get used to this taller seat and riding position
hi guys, just wondering if u guys can make a video about the 2017 yamaha yzf-r3 movistar ??? i love the looks of that r6 though :D
From where you buy that long sleeve tees???? Please
I'm glad I watched this, the dealership is trying to convince me to trade in my 2014 r6, and I'm not really seeing why I should trade it.....but this video says why I shouldn't trade it.....
I must know where you got that R3 sweatshirt/ jacket. Please halp!
mantap laek Troy
Beautiful bike and track
Not only the bike the track is also very beautiful.
Where can i import one of these..?
will you be doing a 2017 GSXR 600/750 review?
How can you not be able to tell the difference considering the significant power drop from the previous model?
beautiful bike!
Can someone help me? I'm 17 and when i'm 18 i want to buy a bike like this one. But i'm 195 cm, and 80kg. Would that be a problem? Or should i go with the r1?
Which is quicker this r6 vs triumph daytona 675r?
did this bike will lunched in India
I would definitely buy just for the white and lime colourway
Beautiful thing in the world 😍
I've never wanted an R6 but i do miss the looks of the lights on the old one
Where'd you get that hoodie???
does it have a gas gauge??
The white one looks cool!
much awaited
Did the new bike have a cracked display screen?
Hi i am looking to purchase my first sports bike, i have ridden a 125cc scooter when I was younger but now bieng 31 and a lot more sensible I want to go for something like the R6. Would anyone recommend me doing this or is this bike too powerful for a noob?
At least yamaha are keeping the 600 class unlike every other manufacturers
At 1:55 you mentioned reduced drag by 8%. 8% drag might make a considerable difference at hi-way speed acceleration. It would be interesting to test 2016 and 2017 rate of acceleration from 60-120. That would be proof of the 8% reduced drag.
Personally I wouldn't say one bike looks better than the other. They both look great in their own right, e older one has this lightning fast while standing still styling while the new one is a bit more grown up. Perhaps for the more mature rider who doesn't want to be associated with the potential hooligans in his neighborhood.
Would a 600cc crossplane crankshaft engine a good idea? :-)
Looks good
Getting this next month in matte black
I will keep my 2011 for now. It does look good though.
I just got this bike!!!😁😁I love it
nice video man, btw Siahaan is Indonesian name, Bataknese to be precise :D
14k in Canada. Disappointing no TFT or IMU.
Where is this race track?
Wondering if/when we'll start to see underslung swingarms on production bikes.
those headlights are so sexy ! could i get this bike as my first ? ive been looking at the ninja 400 and honda cbr500

I like it. Add ti exhaust, power commander and shitcan the bridgies for a set of Q3's
Same thing 650ib said about the front brake on his review. Honestly I don't know how the idea to change fairings and put out the same bike went through corporate yamaha. Good review BTW.
Nailed it.
I know the track was wet, but who will run rain racing tyres on them (other then on the races)? So why not leave the stock tyres to have a real perception of the bike behaviour?
@TroySiahaan
7 жыл бұрын
Because we only had one day to ride the bike, rain or shine. Not a lot we can learn about the bike on a wet track with the stock rubber on - and that assumes nobody throws the bike down the road in the process. It's an unnecessary safety risk Yamaha would rather avoid. Once we get the bike in our hands for our own testing, then we can give it a proper eval with the stock rubber.
@migueljorgefurtado

First: Thank you so much for your answer, I've really appreciated you took the time. Second: fair enough, I understand. But the tyres are such an important part on how the bike feels and it is so common for brands to switch for better rubber on presentations on track, that it is almost like they would change for a top of the line ohlins forks and shock because "the stock units wouldn't do the bike justice on track".
@shanemcredmond9751
7 жыл бұрын
Miguel Furtado Have you ever done a track day in the wet on road tyres? its not a good idea. Rider would almost definitely take a spill. The grip from full wets is extremely good.
@migueljorgefurtado
7 жыл бұрын
In fact I did, and it was not fun (now that you mentioned it, it was a year yesterday, eheh). But I wasn't there to get to know a new machine, and tyres being such an important factor on how the bike feels make a huge difference. For an example, I have my bike for 9 years and 101 000 km, so I've used a lot of tyres, and I know that it feels sluggish turning on the Bridgestone's 014 it came stock with and the front end is like riding with numb hands, with dunlops is better turning but harsh on bad surfaces and with the michelins it's nimbler and very confidence inducing when when braking. The stock tyres should reflect how the manufacturer intended the bike to feel.
Lol waited over a decade for the same dash well done
please make a review video on the new ktm 790 duke bike.!!!! please please!!
