2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Test Drive Video Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Toyota RAV4 hybrid is one of the most fuel efficient crossovers on the market. It delivers the highest level of safety, marvelous fuel economy, and loads of cargo space. There are 3 trim levels ranging in price from $27,910 to $34,030. The model seen here is the top-of-the-line limited edition. Because of the AWD system, there is really only one competitor to this vehicle and that is the Nissan Rogue Hybrid. Everything else is either larger or more expensive.
Fuel economy figures are 34 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway. The drivetrain consists of a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder gas engine and 3 electric motors that together make 194 horsepower. The CVT transmission is paired with an on0demand AWD system.

We've had one of these for nearly two months now and I just love it. I'm 52 years of age, this is the most comfortable car I've ever owned. If you wonder about the back seat space, I'm 2 meters tall and can just move from the driver's seat to the back and sit comfortably "behind myself." Our previous family car was a Hyundai Santa Fe, drove it for 6 years and liked it a lot. The RAV4 has cut our fuel costs by half.

Just did a family trip with mine. Bike in the trunk, roof box on the roof and 4 passengers. 1000 miles of highway and 32 mpg. On steep inclines, there is no transmission shifting like in the gas only version. It's a much smoother experience. I can't recommend this vehicle enough.

I made if from Montreal to Old Orchard, ME....about 600 km (350 mi) with plenty of gas to spare. Would say this car could go 700 km (425 mi.) to a tank without an issue.

Great Review. I have the 2016 model. Love it. A couple of CONs - 1. The Infotainment systems's GPS is horrible. There are no way to get free updates to the old maps in the system. A $150 Garmin is more accurate and gives you updated maps free as does Google Maps on your phone. Toyota really, REALLY needs to get the Android Auto app on their Entune system. To lag behind in the latest app technology for automobiles is a disservice to their outstanding auto quality. 2. The breaks are spongy/squishy. It takes more pressure to get the breaks to stop the vehicle than other models I've driven. The braking system is okay, but it could be much better. Overall, the review highlights the best features of the car. I just wanted to mention the two things I feel Toyota can improve to make the RAV4 Hybrid even better than it is.

    1. It's brakes, not breaks. 2. The brakes aren't mushy, they're HYBRID. The first part of the brake feel is just the regenerative braking happening, no actual brake pads in action. Then as you press more, the actual brakes take over and you get proper brake action. Most hybrids do this. It takes a while to learn how to brake with them. The idea is that the regen braking is best to use without the actual brakes (it puts energy back into the batteries.)

PlusSizeHoney In short, he’s not wrong. That will engine brake you. However, your best bet is to simply be light on the brakes. That will regen brake you with the electric motors.

Generally a good review for someone like me considering one of these as a new to me car. HOWEVER, 2 points: talking head room without mentioning your (the test driver's) height, borders on pointless. (Is the rear reclining seat available on other trim levels of the RAV4 hybrid?) And, you very nicely glossed over the LACK of rear seat heat/air conditioning vents.

Was driving my 2012 RAV4 Limited 4WD 6 cylinder till Sept. 2017 when the hurricane rains leaked into it and caused mold to cover everything and even ruin the engine. Apparently the sunroof will leak if the drain (who knew) is not cleaned out periodically. I think when I took if to the Toyota dealer for regular servicing that they should have done that, but apparently they didn't. I loved that car, and am getting the 2018 hybrid in the next few weeks. Just have to decide on color. Had silver. Want to try something different, maybe black or red. Wish they still offered the 6 cylinder. But from what I've read, the Hybrid is a bit more powerful than the nonhybrid. I'll know once I test drive it.

am sorry but 30 - 34 mpg is dreadful , my 2ltr diesel Picasso is doing 50 -55 mpg , I thought adding electric engines was to help mpg and not to be used for acceleration only. . a hydrogen fuel cell would be much much, better with electric motors , I used to drive a Rav 4 I liked it because of reliability but that's all , its was thirsty too . sorry but that's my experience

google the MPG versus Gallons-Per-Mile illusion, highly illuminating it's essentially diminishing returns and marketing hype. i'm all about efficiency and saving the environment, but understanding the numbers and realities are the best starting point (unfortunately, "going green" was a marketing illusions, a buzzword, and often actually was said by the companies that polluted THE MOST)

    1. Different gallon, so you can't compare U.S. measurements to the U.K. 2. Electric engines are fantastic for accelerating since they give you 100% of torque at 1rpm and up.
