As mentioned above, since over 50% of them have been shorter tern leases, yeah... I'd say that's probably a logical/good place to start at least, ya know? That said, all considered (ESP the title AND that he mentioned right at the beginning that Mercedes themseves, flew him TO Miami just to specifically see/review it) can''t say I'm not disappointed hearing him say there was an embargo in place until at least the next week. That there was ZERO starting, driving, road stuff, etc. involved whatsoever. =/

I'm a car guy and I'd almost buy this if it were cheaper...maybe. I like electric cars and I think it's pretty damn cool that it's rwd! it is a little too "friendly" looking for my tastes though, and oriented to the city where I despise going. styling makes me think of a little tykes cozy coupe that grew up, with all those round edges.

This car might look ridicules but if you live in a city and you work in the city a small electric car like this is ideal, of course you don't buy a car like this if you have to drive a lot on highways

This is a wonderful City EV. with open sun roof no need of AC. so it saves battery. in a city with not anough space for parking it is tiny and fits in places where a normal car can not park. this is a city and a daily use car until 40 kilometers. but the usual we do need for daily use is about 30 km. i like other EV more. but this costs nearly the half of the cheapest EV cars like Renault Zoe. and Nissan Leaf. for people who want to use a Ev only for their daily life and don t need for long distance . wow. sunroof Smart . can t get better in cities and beach area.

this,or a bolt that goes 238 miles. I hate when car companies say most people drive so and so. I don't like charging everyday for hours. I owned a focus ev, in winter,i would get around 50km per charge.

I'd be worried about the range in winter, too. 30mi/50km is not a far round-trip in a day. If that got cut to 15-20mi / 25-35 km that would be bad.

senecadream also, the time it took to recharge was too long. if I buy a ev now,it has to have fast charging. I was one of the first adapters,so I know that range in winter is a joke. I live in Ottawa Canada, and it can get to minus 30-40(wind chill) Celsius.

courtney Vegan Yeah that's a pretty reasonable range expectation. It's helpful to have a gas powered car as well so you can travel further when you need to but commute with EV. I wonder how good the plug-in hybrids will get since they offer both ideas in one package.

it's one of the cheapest electric cars you can get. In europe you can get the 4 seat model with all the options added for 22k euros, minus 10k rebate and about 1500 euros rebate if you bring an old car to the scrap, so basically you get it for about 11k and you have power stations where you can charge it for free. I'm considering getting this for my first car since it's really cheap to run

How much is the range affected by winter driving? When it is -25C, you'll need the heat and defroster on. I'm curious, I have my Jeep for driving in bad weather, but on a clear day in the winter is this useless? I'm interested, but not if it can only be used 3/4 of the year.

If you live in a part of the world where it's -25 for a quarter of the year, an EV may not be for you. My guess is that you see super cold temps maybe 10 days a year, unless you're in the arctic or Yukon, etc.

OMGWTFLOL I am guessing that you've never lived in Northern Ontario. Any given day from mid-December to March can be -25C or below. We usually get a couple week stretch in February where it stays below -30C

  • @smartelectriccar

    @smartelectriccar

    7 жыл бұрын

We had a brutal cold stretch a few winters ago where it was -20C for a week. My Smart ED worked great, and the cabin heater gets hot minutes faster than a gas car's heater does! Sure my range was only 60 km, but that just meant I was charging it every day instead of every three days like I do in the summer. A full charge is $2.50 and I average 90 km for that distance. That's cheaper than driving a Pruis, and who wants to drive a Prius anyway?

The fact this car has a 7.2kWh charger is nice, considering the Leaf only has a 6.6kWh unit and the Volt has a laughable 3.6kWh only. As for the same range, I cannot possibly fathom why anyone would do anything more than 80miles in this city car, so I guess that is fine. The question is does this car support DCFC. That might be a difference maker especially in major cities where I'm starting to see them.

One very nice positive that this car has over the previous generation is a 7.2kwh on board charger vs 3.3kwh in the last one. However Im disappointed that they didn't increase battery size, and provide a DC quick charger. It isn't expensive at all to put one in, and every electric should have one. Lets be honest the range is dismal to its competitors such as the fiat 500e. Realistically your only going to get 60-75 miles per charge. With better EVs coming to market such as the chevy bolt with a 60 kWh battery, and a 238 mile range vehicles like this are going to have to rely only on looks for their sales figures.

I guess that is why when you see a man driving a Dodge Challenger Hellcat, you assume he is either unmarried, or a Catholic Priest - like Steve McQueen in the movie, Bullitt. A third possibility - his wife adores the Rosary soo very much.

I own a large gas guzzling 4x4 SUV and 2 econo boxes. Guess which ones get the most use in our home? Not the gas guzzler. I would buy or lease one of these ED smarts in a heartbeat, without shame. They are fun to drive, easy to zip around in and park.

They did completely redesign the battery cells, pack, motor and the entire car. Almost nothing has been kept over from the previous model. The range is perfect for a small commute, and a small pack keeps the car lighter and cheaper to build. This car is half the price of a new Bolt of Volt and is designed for short commutes.

I live in New York City. This Electric car is not for this city the gas is, Why? Where am I going to get a extension cord long enough to reach my car from my apartment 10 floor window. My EBike get the same range and only cost me 2000 dollar. I get to charge it up in my apartment. A electric car that get under 15O miles in range is just useless. This car is only good if you live in the suburbs where you could charge it in your garage. The gas version is great if you live in city. I have the gas version and will not givie it up unless you put more range into it. . Use my e bike on nice days to save on gas and not lose my parking spot

The nice thing about a Smart car, you can always squeeze around big lumbering trucks with ease in the city. That's where 99% of Smart Electrics car sold and driven. If you drive your semi in the city, sorry for you, that's a poor place to be driving such a large vehicle. But of course, you are more likely to be highway driving, where you will see very few Smart cars, because it's not aimed at the highway commute job. Every tool has it's right purpose.

On the outside they are very similar, but one is built by Mercedes the other is GM. I do agree with the Bolt the Smart EV should be priced aggressively to take some sales back. It has a styling advantage (the Bolt is kind of pudgy looking) but the Bolt trounces it in practicality & range.

The innovation is half the price and all of the safety capabilities in a small packager perfectly suited to a city commute. I own a Tesla and a Smart ED, they each are well suited to their roles. One is a long range highway cruiser, the other is a fantastic little city runabout.
