2017 Sea-Doo GTI SE130 Salt Water Rental Project - Part 1 Hull And Pump

We got ourself a 2017 Sea Doo GTI SE130 rental jet ski that spent the last 2 years in salt water. In Part I we tackle the hull that was covered in algae, encrusting sponges and barnacles, and then clean up the pump and venturi.

    To remove mussels, 140 F water hot power wash. That is how the local regulatory agencies remove them when they are found during an inspection. Only use 120F in the bilge if you have an electric bilge pump. That was the consensus between ABYC and the manufacturers.....great project!

    Rinsing salt water off the metal components of your ski will dramatically reduce corrosion. It is a necessary part of maintenance if you’re going to be riding in salt water. We rinse our engine compartment and hull thoroughly after every ride in salt water. Thanks for your comment.

    You have any issues with pulling that off the driveshaft? Curious if older skis could have issues with removal or reassembly if the motor mounts have worn out and shaft is not completely level anymore. How can I check that when looking to buy used ski?

  • @3ftDeepChannel

    @3ftDeepChannel

    3 жыл бұрын

    What, and spoil all the fun? You'll have to stay tuned to find out ...! To answer your question, you can always look at the motor mounts with a bit of extra light, but the drive shaft condition is much more difficult. Usually, you can only tell the true condition of the driveshaft when it's taken out, but you can look for pitting on the exposed areas from under the machine through the intake grate.

  • @3ftDeepChannel

    @3ftDeepChannel

    It would definitely mess with your alignment, and could cause issues. Bear in mind that the splines need to be lined up, so it can take a bit of fiddling to get the pomp onto the driveshaft. Make sure when you re-install the pump that you clean the driveshaft splines lightly with a wire brush and liberally apply some triple guard grease. Good luck.

    As a rental they probably limit the skis to 40 miles per hour or less so probably little strain on the motor

    No doubt it's been trashed and sat in water. But no way 2 yrs !! The whole underside would be nothing but barnacles if that was the case. I've seen boats after 3 months where it took weeks of anti fouling, chemical treatments, lots of hand scraping and high pressure washing to remove the barnacles. You couldn't even see the hull in those craft. So I am calling big BS on 2 yrs. That thing is brand new in comparison. It looks more like maybe 2 weeks in water, that's it.

    Where do you live? It may be that’s because we live in colder water, it takes longer for organisms to grow. But it was in the water for two years, that’s for sure.

    @@3ftDeepChannel ok. Fair enough. That would make sense. It looked more tropical like where I am. I live in Australia. If it was two years here... it would be cheaper to buy a whole new fibreglass hull for the ski!! 😁
