It didn't break, The Dowl is pressed in the Sprocket. What happened is that is shimmy loose into the cam. It's a faulty design. It should actually not have back and forth play in the cam. Basically the hole for the cam was drilled too deep. Put a small spacer there and it will never happen again.

Bro... I friggen love you for this... this engine code has stumped me for a while! cam sensor, crank sensor and timing chain all look good, but I had not went as far as taking the sprockets out... looks like I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

Yes, what he discovered was my problem as well, new sprocket and camshaft, I tried to remove the broken pin from the camshaft, but no way, get oem parts, I tried an aftermarket sprocket and had to replace it AGAIN

Hello Brother, I have the same code on my 2019 Elantra 2.0, can you please help me by just explaining in details how can I fix it or get it fixed. Thank you for your time. Does changing Cam gears and timing chain fix it?

Once you get to replacing the vvt sprocket on the exhaust, is there anything special to it or do you just bolt down the new one? Do I have to bolt the sprocket down and turn it to lock it or just torque down?

No special tool, just hold the camshaft with a wrench as shown in this video at 26:50 kzread.info/dash/bejne/gmmhtrqvlLGwc6g.html

So I am having this code show now. Same year 2017 with 68K mileage. Would you recommend taking it back to get it fixed and then sell?
