2017 FAQ: My Top 5 Favorite Fixed Blade Knives (for EDC) - Preparedmind101

READ!! "EDC" to ME means "Every Day...I carry a knife". NOT "every day, I carry the SAME knife". Someone always says it. This list is a FAQ answer to MY favorites...NOT a declaration that "These are the 5 best ones". Everyone is entitled to have their favorites. These are MINE. And what sense would it make if I didn't like my own stuff?

Thank you, Chris! I realize I'm slow noticing, but I LOVE the JX6 Companion! I really like the blade shape of the Bushbat, but I'd rather deep-kiss Hillary than have a kerambit-type ring on a knife handle. I like the way the handle turned out, it looks really comfortable. As Bark River is doing them, do you know if there's going to be a CPM-3V or an Elmax, or even an S35-VN version?

Great Video Chris! Still putting some scratch together to pick up a JX6. Question... Have you seen the "The Beast" by Treeman Knives? It is kind of Nessmuky. Looks okay for Bushcraft stuff. Jonathan Stokes Yeah it can definitley do that..You cant pull the knife all the way through and you have to stop the motor right past when the tip first starts to make contact with the tip..Also stop the sweeping motion when your like a quarter inch away from the tip..Its kind of tricky and takes getting use to but it can be done and just takes some practice with it..Hope that helps some. It would be easier to show in a video than through text too

I EDC a handgun in urban environments that's a lot bigger and bulkier than any of these knives, and, of course, spare magazine that add to thye bulk. I'm not a fan of any of the knives in this video. Chris has a lot of viewers, but, frankly, numbers talk and companies listen, even when the content is silly, as it often is from people who really have no extensive life experience. In fifty years, I haven't seen anything as unnecessary, as useless, as amateurish, as downright silly as the Jessica-X foolishness. All of these knives are designed for beginners, for amateurs, who believe anything if someone popular is involved. They're all needlessly expensive, and completely unnecessary. There are much better, cheaper knives on the market. But these knives are NOT too big to carry in an urban environment. That's silly, and tells me you have no extensive life experience, either. I guarantee you encounter people every day who are concealing bigger knives, and far bulkier handguns. I have a son who not only carries a fairly large knife, but also a full size 9 mm, two extra twenty round magazines, AND an SBR with a suppressor. Both weapons have red dot optics. No one knows he carries any of them, even when he wears jeans and a T-shirt. The simple fact is that whether you're in the wilderness, in the country, in suburbia, or in the heart of a big city, you need weapons that are big enough to do the job of saving your life, and carrying less than this is foolish. You do NOT need the kind of knives in this video, and while Bark River does make good knives, there's more hype than fact, and far too much money involved to choose something like this. The knives in this video are all "look at me, aren't I knowledgeable and cool" items, not anything you actually need for any knid of use. But if you allow size to deter you from carrying a knife, a handgun, or anything else, you may as well just go without weapons because you really don't know what you're doing. This doesn't mean you need a knife with a ten inch blade, but you do need one with a blade big enough to actually be a weapon. A five inch blade should be minimum.

Okay, now I can continue from yesterday. So from what you've shown us, it looks like you want your fixed blade EDC knives to be in the 3-4 inch Range in Kydex sheaths that you can dangle or clip into your front pocket. And you want your "Outdoor Fixed Blade General Purpose" Field Knives to be in the 4-6 inch range in Kydex with a Ferro Rod attached that you dangle near the front pocket. Yet you can EDC them when needed. Damn. Now I see why you seldom carry Folders. Because of the Restrictions I have to deal with at work, well, never mind. Damn, Chris, that's.... a Solution to a Problem that I never could find the Right Answer. So, when you get the Kydex with the Clip for the Bushbat, please spend a few seconds on how it looks in the pocket. Oh, and the Dark Timbers that don't seem to follow your System? Who Cares? They're DARK TIMBER, RULES DON'T APPLY TO THE GODS! Thanks Chris. Onto the Choppers.

First of all, thanks for another great vid....I could watch these top whatever knife vids all freaking day long - I wonder how my kids can watch the same damn cartoon movie 20 times in a row, & now I'm realizing that they likely wonder how I could watch these knife vids....anyhow, I've got to call you out on something - I noticed something that I'm certain no one else has noticed - some of the knives on your list(s) here are YOUR OWN DESIGNS. That's right folks, it took me hours of deep-webs research, but it's all true. Shameful Chris, shameful. Lastly, I just don't understand why Tops doesn't go with better scale designs. When I first started getting serious about knives, Tops was one of the 1st companies I collected, & then I discovered Bladeforums & custom makers & it was all over, but the biggest issue (aside from the stupid jimping), & it doesn't need to be an issue, are Tops' handles. I love that they use micarta, but why don't they get rid of the weird designs they grind into the scales, & instead give their customers a nice smooth micarta handle with a simple medium-ish palm swell...stop it with the damn bow drill divots, lanyard holes - unless it's a chopper or a necker I suppose...& the only reason I care is because they hire some great designers & then they produce knives that are almost awesome...why not get rid of the jimping, the dumb holes & divots & designs they needlessly throw at the handles, offer a simple leather sheath option with every knife so folks can choose, & their profits would go up by something like 1% - 1,000,000% - somewhere within that range - why Chris?? Why are you still reading this needlessly long post?? Why am I still typing this needlessly long post?? Is it because I don't want to start doing actual work at my work?? OK, now I'm going to watch your next top whatever knife video & leave a sweet comment that may have had a chance at relevancy a week ago. Scott

M Blake Jr hey man, I'm in WV too(Nicholas county) and the limit for concealed carry is a 3.5" blade. But, open carry is any size, even fixed blades. There are no laws limiting types of knives you can own, but it's illegal to carry any Balisong, switchblade, dirk, dagger, or gravity knife. You can double check at knifeup.com

All knives shown look like kitchen knives, these slashing knives lose the ease of stabbing for defense.
