2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid First Drive Review - DETAILED in 4K UHD!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Chrysler's Pacifica isn't just the first hybrid minivan in America, it's by far the roomiest 7-passenger hybrid or plug-in hybrid vehicle period. With room for seven, 32 cubic feet of storage space behind the third row expanding to 140 cubes overall, there's quite simply no more practical hybrid sold.
All of that is as expected, what's unexpected is the price tag. The Pacifica Hybrid somehow manages to be $3,000-$8,000 less expensive than the Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna and at least $1,000 less than a comparable non-hybrid Pacifica thanks to the federal tax credits.

Bravo Chrysler, you made a car that is pretty hard to logically argue against in my eyes; loads of cargo & people hauling space, very luxurious appointed cabin and solves one of the greatest caveat against a minivan; fuel economy. A van that can use only as much fuel as a midsize sedan? Yes please.

I suspect that it's closer to the Volt trans-axle. I'm sure Alex will do a breakdown on the drive train for this like he did for the Volt though. Incidentally, I agree that Chrysler's reliability issues tend to be in the transmission, which should be a non-issue in this car since it's similar to the Volts, which is a solid design. I also think Toyota's claim to reliability has been exaggerated recently.

Great review. Alex, is there a reason why there's no 2nd row middle seats. Just reviewed the spec sheet and was disappointed to see many items missing from the regular limited model e.g. HID lights. I think I might have to stick w the regular limited model bc of all the missing items.

I went to the Baltimore Auto show today and saw one of these. it was on a stage with no access and there was a nice lady who knew a decent amount and showed a genuine interest in the car. Chrysler really isn't as detailed to their auto show people as you are Alex to us in these reviews you do! they should have this review playing next to the van at all the shows. sad panda on the not being able to get in the car.. but they did have it. man... I want one of these vans....this Nissan leaf is getting real small... thanks again for sharing this man.

The few things I’d change are: move the batter pack somewhere else like under the third row to get back stow-n-go; have all climate controls (as well as heated/cooled seats) be as actual buttons, not hidden in the infotainment system; an extra roof-mounted screen between the two pano sunroofs for the third row; keep all the features that you lose from the regular Pacifica as options; add an HDMI port and other connections for the second row screens as well as more charging USB ports; I don’t know the cup holder situation but the Odyssey has 15 so this can beat that; I’ll think of more eventually

Do you know why they would have left off that feature? Seems like it would be really useful on a vehicle that's probably going to be used for road trips.

Jonathan Dittmar FCA's CEO Mr. Sergio Marchionne has openly talked about his hate for Electrics since years. Even this Plug In Hybrid was reluctantly launched to satisfy CARB requirements. Although FCA's 100% Electric Fiat 500e is a fun to drive car, and it's few owners have nothing but love for them, Marchione hates it. First they don't market the Fiat 500e at all. Most people don't even know that the Fiat 500 is available in an 100% Electric version. Then he blames that the 500e is losing money for FCA. Of course it will lose money if they deliberately don't want to make them in large numbers, market, and sell them. Look up Marchionne's statements about Electrics. Its unfortunate! www.reuters.com/article/chrsyelr-ceo-evs-idUSL1N0O71MS20140521 www.greencarreports.com/news/1101839_a-new-reason-electric-cars-make-chryslers-marchionne-nervous

The MDX, Highlander, XC90 and Pacifica are really the only ones, the Pathfinder is gone and the Rogue, X5 and Outlander lose their third row when you get the hybrid. Not a bad vehicle actually. If I could change one thing, I would change it from a "Parallel Hybrid" to a "Series Hybrid" so that the gasoline engine is only connected to a powerful generator and isn't connected to the drivetrain and the drivetrain is only driven by a powerful set of electric motors. That way you get the best hybrid efficiency + no need to stop and charge + silent driving most of the time.

Simply put, a plug-in hybrid can be charged from your home or a public outlet to charge the battery, in addition to everything else a regular hybrid does. A regular hybrid, on the other end, can only get its electricity from the gasoline engine that acts as a generator, and regenerative braking. (as I mentionned, a plug-in hybrid will do that as well.)

LGwasherFan Also, as apposed to a regular hybrid, a plug in will give you a significant amount of EV only range without the engine coming on. The Pacifica has 30 miles of ev range before it starts operating as a regular hybrid. So if most of your mile are short distances around your home and you plug in every night, you could go months on the same tank of gas.

IT is a shame FCA does not provide the American engineers at Chrysler to build other ground up vehicles. Perhaps they could build a 3 row crossover to replace the Journey? The Fiat platforms have been nothing impressive like this.

you seem a little bias to Chrysler from the videos i have seen. Giving the same rating as other manufacturers with more features. seat comfort, drivability and others.

Cars with electric drivetrains (hybrids, plug-in hybrids and pure electric) are known to have a much higher and instant torque at "lower" speed. This is why the lower hp doesn't make much of a difference, all the power at speeds below 75-ish mph is from the electric motor. So yes, it is possible that this one beats the gasoline version, despite being heavier and having a lower hp figure. Of course, real tests will tell us if it's actually the case.

+Alain B. While that is true, it is not enough to compensate for the increased weight and decreased power. A hybrid with the same power figure and the same weight might be able to be faster, but trust me, this is both the case here. We did not have an official test but we had preliminary figures and it is *at least* a second slower than the regular Pacifica.
