The kids were really showing their stuff in this one, coming into their own. And could you have better guests than Luigi and Pasquale G...on a number like this. Jan on piano and the world's coolest and cutest female drummer, Ms Abril. Whole band fantastic though, flawless.

Do my eyes deceive me!!! Is that Elsa Armengou the fantastic trumpeter now playing saxophone. Is there no end of wonders in this group of musical jazz geniuses!! My goodness Luigi Grasso's attack and tonguing are so excellent. Whew! I love you Tube for bringing this music to us. I am really enjoying my morning coffee.

Holy Cow and hold the presses. Is that Elsa on the sax? Unbelievable talent and commitment to mastering not one but two instruments. Who knows, she may also play the accordion and the cello. So adorable. She's also tall than Alba now. Triste , song by Alba, is probably the bands best vocal piece. Their parents must be bursting with pride.

That's what caught my attention in the description, before I watched (I wondered if it was a misattribution). First time I see Elsa on anything but her trumpet. And sure, Alba A is now the top singer in the company. I love it when she sings Brazilian themes, in her now nearly accent-less Portuguese. Watch _Bahia com H_ (recorded with each musician in their own home, during the pandemic) if you can.

By constant work, engagement and a never declining will to advance your collective skills you're finally reaching the level of the great big bands of our time, and there seems to be no limit. When your 'veterans' leave the orchestra, partly starting fine solo careers, there are long rows of talented newcowers filling the gaps. I'm eagerly awaiting the day when you're presenting some Don Ellis-stuff in odd meters like Blues in Elf, Pussy Wiggle Stomp or Bulgarian Bulge. That day, you'll find me on my knees, Tears of Joy in my eyes.

I was going to say the exact same thing, but luckily I've seen your comments before. 😉 Elsa with the sax, first and I think the last time I see her. Max on the trumpet that I saw him before on another occasion, but it's also very unusual. This video, for SAJB fans, is like those rare stamps of which there is only one copy in the world and it is priceless.

Superb !!! ... The versatility of these young musicians never ceases to amaze me ! Elsa on alto ! ... Max Salgado switches to trumpet ! ... And the 'Rhythm Girls', Abril and Carla, just get better and better. The two guitars add a nice touch and Pasquale, thoughtfully, doesn't overshadow Carla too much. Wonderful band and a great track for 'Jazzing #8'.

... yes, a sharp-edged "economic" style which she developed in these SAJB years and has perfected in her post-graduate projects like 'Las Noray', where her clear, authoritative driving percussion (I would call it 'intellectual' for want of a better word) for no apparent effort, really shines. Home videos of her putting in the ground work as a pre-teen already displayed an intuitive clarity in her playing. My favourite example of her more recent work is 'Do You Hear What I Hear?' recorded in 2020 ... kzread.info/dash/bejne/mWWuya2kYNifpbA.html. R (Australia)

Really liked the tune and the band's performance... Joan, I am not a jazz musician, but like the music very much and know a bit about it... But I am puzzled by the structure of the tune - it sounds like a minor blues progression, but is longer than 12 bars, extended to maybe 18 bars or so, suggesting that the blues progression gets altered or extended. Am I hearing correctly? Any insight you could offer would help my understanding of the tune's structure.

Looks like a 16 bar blues, which is a common variant just like the 32 bar blues. At times, there may be an additional 2 bar extension or break(?), not easy to trace, and at the end, it apparently dissembles towards the finale.

@@paulsj9245 Thanks Paul. I re-counted the bars in the ensemble and solo sections of the tune, and it is 16 bars. I've heard of a "blues with a bridge" [A-A-B-A structure] where the A sections are standard 12-bar blues and the B section is an 8-bar non-blues (like in a "Great American Songbook" tune - ["standard"]). But I've never heard of a 16- or 32-bar blues before... thanks for the enlightenment....
