    A word of caution, I pulled the seat back down to check out whether I had much room back there (I didn't) and could not get the seat back to lock back into position. The pin that the seat latches onto slides up and down. It was out of position and needed to (after trial and error) be moved down a bit. Great video as always!!!

    S. Raetz there should be a little strap sticking out right there on the side of the seat. It looks just like the lower release strap but it’s on the side of the upright. At least that’s how my 19 is. 2 release straps on passenger and one on lower for driver side.

    I just don't get this mod. It seems like one of those things where guys are running out of stuff to do and just want to fiddle with their truck. There is hardly any space at all back there (and really no space if you happen to have the upgraded audio system) and even if you do keep something there it's not going to be something you will be using often so why not just take the extra 15 seconds and use the original latch.

  • @bambamnj
    @bambamnj4 жыл бұрын

    I heard for other cabs, crew cab etc, that you can lift the seat bottom and the top of the seat moves which gives you more room to reach behind the seat to get to the pin, this is not true of my truck which is a 2018 Ford F150 XL STX w Supercab (Extend Cab reverse opening half doors) - Here is how to find the release pin. On my truck the release mechanism is just to the right of the right head rest post (this is when you are facing the bed, so if you enter via the driver's side and your facing the headrest it's towards the door that you entered through). If you squeeze your hand down between the back seat and the back of the truck you should be able to feel the metal bracket that makes up the release mechanism. In my truck there was no way I was going to get the rest of my hand, let alone my arm down far enough to get to the pin. So, I took a 3/4 inch box wrench, mine was about 9 inches long. Using the round end of the box wrench, I carefully slid this down just to the right of the driver's side post of the head rest. Then I just kept pulling it up while at the same time pushing it toward the driver's side of the truck. The pin is there, you just have to keep using an up and down motion trying to catch the pin with the round part of the box wrench. It only took me about 3 tries. NOTE** make sure the bottom of the bench seat is in the DOWN position. Don't have the seat bottom locked in the up position. You should be kneeling on the seat bottom not on the truck floor. If the seat bottom is locked in the up position the locking mechanism doesn't want to work or will work a lot harder. Put the seat bottom down and kneel on the seat. I was shouting so loud when I heard it click because I was so happy I got it. PS - I found the dinky little handle that I guess comes with the truck. Mine was tucked behind the felt covering on the back of the seat, just under the locking mechanism. So, slide your finger into the bottom of the opening in the felt that's around the locking mechanism and feel around in there mine was just laying in there. One more additional note. This is true on my truck, not sure about other models. There is so little space behind the seat and around the locking mechanism. If the new strap is laying the wrong way, pointing towards the back of the truck or laying across the locking mechanism, the stupid mechanism will not lock in place. You should have to slam the seat back to get it to lock. It should lock with a gentle push. If your seat back locks harder with the strap on then without it, then something isn't right. There's no room back there for things to just be wherever they want to be. The strap has to be in the right place and not restricting the pin or forcing any more pressure on the locking mechanism. You may have play around with things a little to get it working the way it should work. I'm also thinking about using some velcro to make sure the strap stays where I want it to stay. Hope this helps some of you out there.

    Stupidest design EVER on the part of Ford. I've got a 2019 F-350 DRW, and I'll be DAMNED if the thing is designed as it clearly is for you. Got my hand behind the seat, but I swear it doesn't feel like that. I'm ready to stick a GOD-SIZED prybar somewhere.
