    I'll be buying one of these in just a few hours! Pretty damn excited, it'll be by far the nicest vehicle I've owned. TRD Sport, 60K miles, and I plan to drive it up to 500K if I can.

    Have the exact model reviewed, minus the premium tech package Do note, the blind spot, parking sensors, heated seats, and dual zone climate control are all part of the premium tech package The wireless charging and backup camera come standard on TRD sport models It is a great truck, with great fuel economy and can haul a decently sized trailer (6700lbs I believe) If you are on the line about buying one, pull the trigger you won't regret it

    An excellent review! Thanks for the attention to detail! I was previously unaware of the fold down rear seats in the double cab, which makes it even more versatile than the access cab. I was on the fence, but leaning towards the access cab for the utility. Will be ordering ours with double cab ASAP!

Had an old gmc half ton years ago and have missed a truck ever since. Never owned japanese before, but after seeing the disappointments with the big three as of late, this was an easy switch. Great review this is my first time to your channel. I love this truck only the trd pro with all the goodies. Just worried about it feeling more underwhelming then my 07 350z, I know it's a sports car and this is a small truck, but how is the passing speed and stuff? I don't speed much but I do like a healthy get up feel. Did you get to test out the trucks driving at all? If so is it reasonably quick? It's not THAT important but it would bother me a tad bit, I ask because I'm having a kid and need the room and utility space to move things and tow a small trailer

    I have had my 2016 TRD sport crew cab with short bed for about a year now. It has 7600 miles on it. Some say seats are not comfortable and driving position is too low. I disagree. Both are fine. My only complaint is the poor way that the engine and transmission work together. The engine sound in city driving is like you have a four banger under the hood.The best part of engine sound is when you push button start it. It roars and that is it.The shape, stance, ride, low road noise, build, solid feel through bumps are top notch. Overall I love the truck.

    the Tacoma is all about performance and more luxury.. thats why is intented for North America the Hilux is a Global car.. thats why it wouldnt be attracted here cause it doesn't have as much as the Tacoma.. Plus its a Diesel.. somethin here that some reason it never comes :/

  • @lopan1698

    @lopan1698

    8 жыл бұрын

    Geo4242 Agreed. Even on the global market, a Hilux costs more than a well appointed Taco Sport. We're the only nation that won't allow it based on "emissions" reasons, but I suspect that has more to do with Domestic truck makers already upset that Tacomas and Nissans have market share, and it's not hard to picture them lobbying to restrict the worlds most popular pickup from coming here. It would decimate the F150 (and other) market, which is the glue holding Ford in the black. The Taco is unsettling popular in America in the board rooms of domestic truck makers, if the Big 3 could get rid of it, you can bet they would, but it's here to stay, partially because of domestic assembly, a shrewd move on Toyota's part in the 80's, and partially because guys like me don't have to fix them like I did my Silverado all the time. But I would still kill for a small block, high utility, good mileage, good torque rig like a little Hilux. We just couldn't break the thing, even towing uparmored M1114's around the base in deep gravel.

    Tough choice between this and the Off Road. I like the smaller wheels with off road rubber and off road suspension of the Off Road, but the hood looks so much better on the Sport.

    The legs out front seating position with no height adjust can get old after you've lived with the truck for a while. It's not quite right on the old Tacoma, I doubt this is different.

    I bought a 2016 4x4 TRD Off Road double cab with the manual 6 speed. My truck is pretty much maxed out with all options available for 6 speed manual models. I did notice you said that the TRD and Sport models come standard with the smart start wireless key system. My truck came with the standard key ignition with keyless entry bottoms on the key fob. I was under the impression when I ordered my truck that it was standard with the smart start which isn't the case. Any idea why my 2016 4x4 TRD Off Road came with a regular key ignition system? It does have the premium technology package. I am guessing that manual shift 6 speed models might be omitted from the smart key feature? However, I do know that Toyota does use the Smart start system in other models with manual transmissions so any idea on the lack of smart start on my model? My dealer really didn't have any clue why, but they thought probably cause of the manual transmission. Another silly thing is my truck has the premium nav display like you showed which is also the same unit used in models with JBL speaker package. In order to get the JBL speaker package in my truck I had to go with a Automatic transmission. How stupid is that! What the hell does the transmission have to do with what speaker package the audio system comes with? I ended up installing a set of high end Focal component speakers up front which also replaced the dash tweeter by the windshield and a set of mid range Focal speakers in the rear doors all powered by a 1,000 watt 5 channel Alpine Amp. Sub output is powering a 10" JL W3 sub. HUGE upgrade over what ever the stock "magnetless" speakers these trucks come with. Factory stereo sounds awesome now. That was my answer to being screwed out of the JBL option I couldn't get. I am SOOoooo glad I went with the 6 speed manual. It brings back the fun in driving. My 2006 4x4 Double cab sport was a automatic which makes the truck seem more tame and boring. Anyone not sure which transmission option to go with. 6 Speed manual and you won't regret it. I liked the crawl control option available on the TRD off road models. Automatics only get that option. NOTHING would get me to switch to a automatic! Maybe a amputated left leg. Till then, the automatics is for the lazy pansies! Also, ALL double cab models will only come with the standard 5 foot box when opting for the 6 speed manual. I would have liked the double cab with a 6 foot box, but again only with automatics the 6 foot beds are available.

  • @MikesCarInfo

    +Yogangster1995 The ignition has to be on and the converter switch has to be on as well. The outlet cap says "400w idling" and "100w running" but it doesnt say anything about the engine not running. It may run off the alternator... in that case the engine will need to be running.

    Yeah. Don't consider that a bad thing. It's proven reliable design. If it isn't broke, don't fix it. They are selling well and on pace to sell 200,000 tacomas this year. Underneath my cousins 2016 Silverado looks the same as my old 2002 silverado so all auto manufactures are doing this.
