2016 Toyota HiLux Workmate 4X4 Review | CarAdvice

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Over the past few years, we have seen the humble work ute transform into a high-tech, high-priced leisure machine.
But not everyone needs all the bells and whistles, and in the case of the 2016 Toyota HiLux Workmate, stripping away all the options, accessories and luxury appointments leaves you with what is arguably a better example of the breed.

    I just love how this is simple, and great. I really prefer the black plastic, also giving a cooler look it makes you use it harder and more, so you dont worry about all those scratches etc.

    While I love the big flashy pickups we have here in the US, I really wish we had a no nonsense truck on sale here. No 12 inch screen, no leather seats, and no 20 inch wheels, just a bare bones truck with crank windows and a manual transmission for dirt cheap that can take a proper beating for 25 years.

    There's a fair amount of appeal of the 'UN' spec Hilux. The steel wheels look goo - although on the Fortuner it looks like someone stole your normal rims from the train station...

    I agree with you on that, but I'm not a really big fan of the flashy trucks that you normally see on the streets but I really wish the Hilux and Isuzu D-MAX were sold here in the states but unfortunately they can't due to certain circumstances so we just gotta work with what we got

    Interesting. In Germany we don't have the "workmate" spec but "duty". Duty is only available as extra cab or single cab for whatever reason. Duty has rear diff lock, too. At the moment you can only buy the 2.4L engine. Not sure if we get the bigger one also here. I got an extra cab with a slightly higher spec end of last year called "duty comfort" which should match with your SR models. I'm fine with the smaller engine. You don't win races with a ute anyhow and I'm not towing a lot. Toyota in Germany gives 17% discount if you are a hunter provided you are member in a hunting association. That at least saved me any price discussions. I've been watching your reviews prior to buying it and it helped a lot to finally make that decision. So far I didn't regret it. Thanks!

    Nice Review! Since I drive this one, in the european "Duty" Version, which also includes a manual diff lock, I totally agree with your statements! A lot of car for the money, nice and easy to drive, even on smaller european Roads, 100 Percent offroad capable and for sure a better Price/Performance Ratio than most of the polished Lifestyle SUVs (most of them NO serious Offroaders) on the market today. For Peope who know what they want in a car - and what they want not - this is the solution.

    I have a 2016 Hilux Prerunner (2WD high rider) 2.4 automatic here in Thailand. I am led to understand in the specs that the manual has less torque (343NM) as opposed to 400NM in the automatic, and looking through other vehicles specs, they are the same.

  • @realVicTorres02
    @realVicTorres025 жыл бұрын

    They've should have put that 2.4 litre diesel engine on the Fortuner alongside the standard 2.8 litre diesel engine and just make it reserved for the 4x2 versions such as the GX, GXL, and Crusade.

    Honestly, i prefer this over the sr5 if you give me one with diff locks. You really don't need fancy accessories, and i prefer the black plastic materials than chromed ones. Give it an all terrain tire and you can go wherever you want. For the wobbly tub, put a bean bag made of tire interior stuffed with sand and you got a steady ride on the hiway.

    Marc Downing Australia =/= North America. Even Factory RHD cars are on average 20% more expensive than their LHD counterparts, and if you have to convert it to RHD here, that’s an extra 20-30k. Fuel in the countryside here often gets to $1.6 per litre for regular unleaded, $1.8 per litre for premium
