Remember doing this on Rampant 2. Awesome time. Then sailing back on Condor of Bermuda in 1982's race. What an awesome experience. Still remember some of the names. Helsal, Apollo, Hitchhiker, Police car,. Gotta do it one more time.

Just great footage, never done the S-H but always wanted to when I was younger. The enthusiasm of the Aussie commentators is infectious, the Heads look beautiful and I bloody love it. I wish yacht racing was given as much coverage here in England.

Ha mr Soupdragon, Hello sailor, here sailer; You read my mind ! Im Rick,Holland, near Amsterdam and IJmuiden,Nort Sea.270 heading COG 110 nM to Lowestoft,my standard training training. My second harbour is Scheveningen, the regatta center of Holland.Nice harbour to come along, good club.Lots English boats, nice and intetesting talks. I do yacht racing, did Fastnet,Cowes Week,North Sea Race,Coppa del Rey and more.Never did the famous SH sofar, but I like to do it and i have serious plans. Now i'm sailing my BH41,modified keel,my design, with CFD,draft 9' with North 3Di black sails,Southern Spars tapered 3 spreader mast with checkstays,B&G gear,GPH 545,IRC1 optimized 1.15.Optimized rudder. Sister boat was/is the famous Checkmate,,winner of many races and World Champion, some years ago. Built in Sydney,by Bashford, design Ian Howison. In your country well known examples are Twister,Surfing Shoes,El Ceed,Blue Seal,Adrenasea,HighAnxiety wich I know. So,about the SH, go!! You only live once. Preparation,a good boat, well trained skilled team and the paperwork, essential. Beware of the Bass Strait, This moment I see the Scallywag, and Wild Oates, and Perpentual, just rounding the buoy Hamilton. Yes,also in Holland sailing is not hot on TV unless it's about the Ocean Race, formerly Volvo-,therefore the Whitbread. In the past,Eurosport had a weekly hour called Sailing World. Maybe you can google on " Eurosport Sailing World" I used to video rec it on VHS,i have about 30 tapes of 240m. Stored on safe, dark, magnetically shielded place. My treasure. Grtz,Rick,BH41 fan.

@@jantjepietje5806 good words! I've done a few races to/from Hellevoetsluis, big parties afterwards! Loved the Whitbread and did most of the 93/94 race on D&Y/Reebok. Fair winds!

Most sailors will never understand the feeling of falling off a moving boat. What you do when you hit the water, will be the difference between survival or not. Panic is the last thing to do. When I was 12 (1982) Before I was allowed to race IOR races, I had to take survival courses at my local Yacht Club. Jump in with full rain suit and boots. And stay up for 60 minutes, only using my coat for a make shift flotation device. I am watching the media jump off the back, and it brought back a memory! I am a great lakes sailor. I think I would really enjoy racing this race. Love heavy weather sailing, for some reason. I blame my childhood! 😂🤣⛵⛵⛵keep the heavy side down! Cheers!

Interesting that Mark Richards is making so many calls on Wild Oats. I'd have thought he'd just concentrate on sailing the boat and let other people concentrate of trim etc.....

  • @robertbents4209

Most boats the skipper will make the calls. He has to tell them to ease so he can drive the boat down, trim, he can feel everything and knows the best of anyone on the boat what it feels like and what needs to be adjusted.

try Google Earth on your App. Or, go the AU Channel 7 page which will direct you to everything you need to see: tracking, line honours, weather warnings etc. CYCATV gives you a general track in a little box. Hope that helps!

"Purity of wind, wave and working with the environment" . Whether a 40+ year old boat to a brand new one, the capital to field a boat ranges from 4 figures to 7+ figures (USD). However the labor is just as important. Just reach out to a local sailing club and find out how accessible sail racing can be. Captains always looking for crew. Yes you may have to associate with people capable of the capital so keep an open mind ;-) . Hard work , experience , knowledge , skill built on the water and most important love of the sport and there is a sail race out there for you,
