"No one saw it" The oscars are about how good a movie is, not how many people went to go see it. Wtf.

Not really. For example, a lot of animated movies last year lost to Big Hero 6 because the voters didn't see any of the other movies nominated. BH6 wasn't that great a movie, it won because the voters were racist and refused to see some of the other nominees since they were, and I quote, "stupid Chinese cartoons"
@SuperLordGaming

+Genie Of the Lamp Pretty sure not all of them are racist who didn't want to watch them. Also funny how they would say that yet BH6 had some Asian stuff in it.
@genieofthelamp6739

+UnknownAnon Some didn't see them because they didn't care. BH6 had some Asian inspiration, but it was a big Disney movie that got a lot of attention. The "Chinese cartoons" included the movies Song of the Sea and The Princess Kaguya. One of them was a Scottish film while the other was a Japanese movie

The academy have 10 slots for best picture and they didn't nominate Ex Machina or Carol?
@ihsantriapramanda1973
8 жыл бұрын
+Christopher Buckley Academy voting system does not work to "fill the slots". They have multiple rounds of voting to select the final nominees and put certain minimal vote limit for an entry to get the final nomination. That's why you see only 8 movies on the best picture instead of 10 and in some other categories not all five slots is filled. Especially for best picture, they want the nomination to be based on merit. So if there are only 8 movies which exceed the final vote limit, there it goes. 10 is just the maximum number of slots available.

They are slowly and quietly working their way back down to 5. 8 moms last year, 9 the year before. They only went up to 10 to cash in on avatar buzz. If they did all 10 noms they would probably throw in Star Wars and inside out to draw viewers over any smaller movies.
Leo has no competition this year. He should win. If he doesn't, the Oscar panel should just come out and tell him he's never making it.

For a channel called CineFix, these people seem to be very uninformed about movies. They haven't seen a bunch of the nominees. They didn't talk much about Room or Carol. They didn't mention how this was Jennifer Jason Leigh's first Oscar nomination after giving over 30 years of great performances. They didn't give consideration for George Miller to win best director (which I wouldn't be surprised if it happened). Nobody talked about Michael B. Jordan not getting nominated for Creed. Maybe next time have people on screen that have seen all of the nominated movies.
The lack of Anomalisa in the best picture nominees is an absolute travesty
- Bridge Of Spies doesn't deserve a nomination. - Have you seen it? - No. Dafuq was that?
Gotta love your argument of "No one saw it" against Bridge of Spies, followed immediately by indicating Ex Machina (made nearly 4 times less at the Box Office) and Tangerine (made around 180 times less at the Box Office). Perhaps calling a critically-acclaimed movie directed by Steven Spielberg starring Tom Hanks "100% irrelevant" without even seeing it is a little off the mark.

Jon Stewart I beg to differ. His entire conversation with Ruth about the forged letter was a gigantic highlight. His interplay with Goggins, both begining and end, were unlike anything else. Jackson raised the bar on intensity within every single scene.
This video is exactly why I think Moonlight is going to win Best Picture over La La Land this year. Just because one movie has more "buzz" than the other doesn't mean it's a lock for the award
I'm disappointed Chi-Raq received no recognition from either the cinefix team or the academy. It's well written, the costumes are very well thought-out, Jennifer Hudson's song was beautiful and made me cry, and the acting is incredible, especially the delivery of the lyrical-style script.
I adore The Revenant to death, it's my personal favorite movie of the year, and up there with my favorites of all time, and I don't think it's Oscars Bait. It's very cinematically driven as far as the story, it does a phenomenal job of being engrossing with a long run time and relatively little dialogue, and the direction, performances, and especially cinematography are unbelievably great. I'll understand fully if it doesn't win BP, but to me at least, it's what movies should strive to be as far as using the medium in unique ways to tell a story in a way only a film could. If it doesn't win best cinematography though, it'll be an absolute crime. Honestly is the most gorgeous movie I've seen in years, and that they did it with only natural light is unreal. I'll be happy with pretty much any of the BP noms winning, but my personal pick is The Revenant. This was a pretty damn good year for good film! PS, I'm glad you guys are back, I've been jonesing for my Cinefix. PPS, Clint, your mustache and beard are glorious!

Why do you guys seem so salty about the Revenant? I'm not saying you can't not like a movie, but you guys seem especially upset over the Revenant cleaning house with nominations. Personally I'm happy to see more unique films like the Revenant and Mad Max getting attention that cookie cutter dramas like Brooklyn and the Danish Girl.
While many important remarks were made (highlighing Ex Machina & Straight Outta for example), I'm a little distraught the Best Actress category was almost just glanced over. Both Brie Larson and Saoirse Ronan have shown exponential maturity in how they bring their characters alive. Larson's career is a short but impressive list of heartfelt performances in crucial stories (Short Term 12, Room). I'm glad the Academy has taken notice of them, kinda wish you guys had to.
I see three people at this table, but I can only hear two. How eerie.
you guys said that spotlight would win everything except best picture and when you came to the individual categories you consistently picked different movies.
@outlanderfrog
8 жыл бұрын
That was more of a speculation/joke than their actual opinion.
Can't believe people don't like The Revenant. I thought it was incredible.
The problem about DiCaprio and Damon is that in a movie they are both always DiCaprio and Damon. I think it's about them not been able to transform so that they really are the characters they played. I just always see them as the same character that just goes from a movie to another. Same thing for George Clooney...
"I didn't see half these movies but here are my fully formed opinions on why they shouldn't win." Guys, this is your job.
Benicio Del Toro is definitely a snub, and he might have honestly been the best supporting actor of this year. That's one of the best performances of his career.
and brige of spies was amazing, the fact that "no one" saw it according to you, doesnt make the movie worst. It had a brilliant screenplay, top notch acting and great score and cinematography
Can someone please explain why they don't like The Martian too much? I personally loved it, but what's the problem? (BTW, I know nothing about the Oscars)
No one even mentioned how many times anomalisa was snubbed?
So you guys don't think that Idris Elba should've got the supporting actor nomination? It essentially felt like his movie but not his movie. I don't understand how he doesn't get at least the nom.
I was absolutely stunned that Tarantino didn't get the nomination for Best Original Screenplay, partly because his most commonly known and loved films (Pulp Fiction, Basterds, Django) got the nominations, and that it had some of the best writing of the entire year; however, I can't argue against any of the other choices that were nominated.
It's Oscar Season 2017 now and I am still so mad that NOBODY in the Academy seemed to have seen Mr. Holmes last year. It was easily one of the best films of 2015 and 2016, taking on world literature with an outstanding cast and even more outstanding performances and taking on really relevant everyday struggles.
TI IS BACK!!!
Where is Oscar Isaac in Ex Machina?
I love how this is the face to the guy that says " sexy hoots "
Alejandro got nominated for everything because he deserved it. The only rule the academy has is to nominate people that deserved it. HE FU**ING deserved it
I would have liked to have seen Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and The End of the Tour get some nominations, mainly for screenplays, acting (Jason Segel was sensational) and cinematography (for Me and Earl)
I really like this channel and the people on it . It makes wonder tho when I hear some of the hosts say they haven't seen some of the movies they are discussing. Give these folks some passes please !
Ti has the whole left side of the table to herself. How luxurious.
The Walk for visual effects, Black Mass for makeup, The Peanuts Movie and The Good Dinosaur for Animated film, Idris Elba for Supporting Actor, Inside Out for best picture honestly.
Can you guys do a Things you didn't know about The Minority Report please?
For real though, Idris Elba for Beasts of no Nation (I guess he would be in the supporting actor category) Also, Sorkin for Steve Jobs (adapted screenplay). And lastly Tarantino for The Hateful Eight (original screenplay)
CAN ANYONE explain what happened over at cinefix? they made that video saying everyone was leaving, but now it seems more like a rebranding?
Leo has to win.. The Revanant was great and it took some brass balls to get naked in the middle of winter in alberta. great movie, great acting.
Biggest snub for me was lack of Walton Goggins in a "best supporting actor" for his marvelous portrayal of Chris Mannix on "The H8ful Eight"
Also I can understand why people don't like Alejandro (honestly thought I'd hate him too). In my opinion, he can be a bit pretentious but still tell an engaging story through his directing such as "The Revenant". So if you love him or hate him, I completely understand & respect your opinion.
did they ever do a Things you didn't know about American Graffiti?
To be fair, Iñarritu just became important in the Oscars with Birdman last year. You can't say everything he does gets nominated for best picture or that he always been a favorite to get an Oscar. And I'm not even a fan of Iñarritu's work, the only movie that I really like is Birdman. I still need to see The Revenant, tho.
Surprised about Straight Outta Compton only getting Original Screenplay, Tom Hardy got Supporting Actor, while Ridley Scott got skipped on director; extremely pissed about Furious 7 snub. I get it; what do you expect? it's a dumb action film, but it was a really damn good song with a great message (in my opinion).
Oscars be mad white though.
both the nominations for Best Animated Movie and Best Original Song are very disappointing. Any of the songs from Creed could've been nominated but what are ya gonna do?
I personally want The Revenant to win, not because it was fucking gorgeous, but because it was everything I want a movie to be, particularly the story and the dipiction of every character's actions. No Hollywood heros, no overlly complicated story, just a movie about humanity. I can't see it being hollow when i could visually see and hear Leo's character turn into a bear throughout the course of the film. I respect anyone's opinions on it but I hope it sweeps.
IDRIS ELBA ANYONE??????
YES on Steve Carell.
I think The Martian has a much, much better chance of winning Best Picture than Spotlight, and DiCaprio pretty much has best actor in the bag, if for no other reason than people think he's long overdue for a win. You guys are sounding a little out of touch with some of your predictions... Fury Road is not universally loved, that movie has a lot of naysayers.

+Magnus Prophecy 1) When the movie came out, a bunch of Meninests (Men who think they don't have the rights they deserve) boycotted the movie because Max wasn't in the trailers/movie as much as Furiosa. However, Max isn't really the focus of the movies; the world is the focus. (2) That's disputable. Mad Max and The Revenant both had great direction, sound/atmosphere, etc. They also boil down to simple plots. Mad Max is a chase through the desert and back while Revenant is about revenge. I'm not saying either movies are bad, quite the contrary. I can see both movies getting nominated, but I don't know which is going to win.
I love Ti's hair! She would probably be the most interesting person to have dinner with in that room.
I bet the "spanking Mad Max into an Oscar movie" footage is a deleted scene from Fifty Shades Of Grey.
What about the H8ful Eight? I thought it was one of Tarantinos best! And in my opinion Django should have won over Argo as Django was even better than the H8ful Eight though.

That's a very ostentatious table you have there. Is that office in the background all part of Cinefix? Seems like an unusually big operation considering most of your in-camera staff left the building in the last couple of months.
Ex Machina should've been nominated, really. Also, I do agree that this year Leo might win because, frankly, Eddie was the best out of the actors, but he won last year and he is really young, it doesn't sound like the oscars to give him the award this year too, Leo is their best choice. If he doesn't win this year than we will know that the oscars just really hate him. About Inarritu, I think he deserves all the praise tbh, I love all his movies, the fact that he didn't win anything for the Death trilogy films is reason enough for him to be nominated every year because the oscars fucked up with him.
I may be alone on this, but my biggest issue was Ridley Scott not getting a best director nom. Yeah, they made it very clear when he got passed over for 'Gladiator' that he's never gonna win, but that doesn't quell my bitterness.
Johnny Depp should have been nominated for his role in Black Mass. wtf dude?
Bridge of Spies was really good but it belongs in the screenplay category rather than Best Picture. Also, why are people just dismissing Bridge of Spies without seeing the movie. Tom Hanks was fantastic and should have been nominated over Cranston. The Coen brothers are some of the best writers in the film industry so it deserves the Best Original Screenplay nomination. I would recommend Bridge of Spies to anyone who loves great performances, dialogue, acting, and directing.
*Inside Out* should have a spot in the Best Picture category. For me it was the movie of the year. I get that the Academy will probably never give the award to an animated picture, but at least give it a nomination. It was outstanding and it deserved it. They gave it one for the screenplay, why not for BP as well?
Can't believe that Tarantino didn't get a nom for best screenplay!
I'm not saying it deserved nominations for best picture or best actor (Idris Elba), but what is your take on a movie like Beasts of No Nation? With it being a Netflix original is it "Hollywood" enough to get recognition? I guess my real question is, is it left out because there is no box office dollars, or is there a rule because of the format in which it was released? If the latter is the case, is it time to change that rule?
Pssst: Benicio del Toro didn't get nominated because he signed a petition to reinstate Puerto Rico in the best foreign film category, when it was removed in 2011 after 60+ years of participation despite the fact that Puerto Rico's legal status has remained the same from 1911 to the present day. Puerto Rico competes as its own entity apart from the US in things like the Olympics and FIFA etc but the Academy decided to send a random political message that year. The Academy doesn't like having former winners speak out against their ridiculous and frankly prejudiced actions.
I love this account so much.
I don't get how anybody can deny Leo winning this year. Just because of the stupid, overly played out "He's never going to get an Oscar" jokes? Hell nah, there's nobody stopping him this time.

+dallashood67 But what will all those meme makers do?
The writing doesn't matter? WHAT!? Bridge of Spies was irrelevant!? You guys infuriated me. And I love you.
I REALLY hope Spotlight wins best picture. The one best picture i have not seen yet is Brooklyn, so maybe that will change my mind. Spotlight was so good even if the subject matter is not the most appetizing. I legitimately believed that the "Spotlight" team was a team and that I was just watching them figure all of this stuff out. That, to me, is what makes a film the best picture. The one that can make you forget you're in a theater the most. Please win Spotlight!
Fassbender was absolutely fantastic. Though whoever was in charge of promoting that film needs to be fired immediately.
I think Johnny Depp was horribly snubbed for black mass.
Btw, as an enormous fan of Birdman, I really think The Revenant is a bit overhyped. Was it good? yes. Is it best picture good? I really don't think so. There just wasn't that much to the movie. It was like a mix of The Hateful Eight, The Martian, and Cast Away with Birdman's visuals. Solid and beautiful with great performances, but it didn't change my life or anything.
With all due success, how could you talk about films and Academy Awards without having watched them all. Bridge of Spies was a fantastic film, and deserves the recognition it got. Snubs: Idris Elba, Jacob Tremblay, and Inside Out for Best Picture

I'm so bummed Benicio del Toro didn't get nominated for Sicario. His performance made that movie.
wtf "nobody saw bridge of spies", literally was top of the box office p sure when it came out, its a very moving and important story and deserves a bp nom
I think Joel Edgerton should have been nominated for supporting actor for the Gift.

Or best director since he directed it too.

Jon Stewart Very true
Too be fair...Fassbender was in more than one film this year in the lead role. Jobs, Macbeth and filmed Apocalypse for this year. Not a bad resumé.
From 10:36 to 10:57, wholeheartedly agree. People can only seem to handle talent in very, very small doses.
Is it just me or did Star Wars just get really Snubbed?

The Oscars are NOT about the most popular movies, they are about the best. I love Star Wars, but I don't think it's THAT good...

+B-Rex Good point, at least Star Wars has good reviews, excellent ticket sales and good word of mouth to back it up

This is my personal list, I don't think any of them will win besides hopefully Stallone but it's my list anyway. Best Picture - Fury Road Best Director - George Miller, Fury Road Best Actor - Matt Damon, The Martian Best Supporting Actor - Sylvester Stallone, Creed Best Screenplay - The Hateful Eight The biggest snubs of the year are both for Best Director and also Best Picture. Ridley Scott not being nominated actually made me mad, and I thought Ryan Coogler not getting nominated was absurd, and also I feel Creed should have been nominated for Best Picture.
guys. theres a lot of places to go to watch people discuss oscar movies and they have actually seen all of them. so it would probably be best if u saw all of them too. just and idea
the best director this year was HANDS DOWN Alejandro Iñarritu. That man is a genius. I saw the movie 3 times in the cinema (the revenant). it was amazing
What's with the hate on Bridge of Spies? I didn't think it was spectacular either, but not seeing it and just putting it down because you didn't see it is...bit inappropriate. At least see the movie first and then compare it to others.
How can you say noone saw Bridge of Spies? It's among the most financially succesful movies among the nominees!
Opinion: The Revenant did resonate. Innaritu is laying down foundations for a new, dolly typed, emotional directorial practice. Respect that. However, JLaw does need to take a break from O'Rusell in order for her fans and cinema fans to not overdose and despise further conglomerations of the two. Nobody doubts their talent, it would just be the same as eating your favorite fruit every day for a year, thus starting the next year with a different favorite fruit. Prediction: BA - Leo Best SA - Sly Best Actress - Brie Larson Best Picture - The Revenant Best Director - Innaritu Technical Cat's: split between The Revenant and Mad Max etc. In total, respect Innaritu's style and Leo's continued exponential effort. He'll be acting until Brando times, or Sir Ian, and he'll at the least grab 2 Oscars.
Jennifer Lawrence's performance in Joy is perhaps her best till date. I am irritated she gets a lot of noms, but this one I am proud of
And snub has to be Ryan Coogler for Best Director for "Creed". There should have been a nomination for that continuous shot fight sequence alone.
Carol, Creed and Ex Machina should have had more noms.
Ex Machina might have been nominated for best picture if they bumped it to 10 this year instead of 8
