I own one and look at it every morning. I love it, drives great wide aray of features and the clackle and pop just makes you soooo happy!

I live in the Northeast and bought the GLE540 with pretty much every option box checked. My trade in was a W221 S550 4matic which had replaced a CLS 550. I have also had three M class starting with the ML430 followed by the second generation ML350 and then the ML 550. The GLE 63S looks to be a fantastic performer but there is no place where I can properly exploit its power (without risk to life, limb and license.) The GLE does all that I need it to do, and a lot I don't need, with a bit of flair and in-your- face performance,

Great review! I live in Los Angeles and I bought the Gle coupe AMG43. I love the car! I choose this car for price, gas mileage and transmission over the AMG63. Living in LA, the traffic rarely allows us to use the Hp that the 63 offers . I did not want another car giving me only 15mpg around town ie. GMC Yukon XL. As you pointed out correctly this is a heavy suv/car which Mercedes did a great job with the suspension options to tame the weight issues. The various drive modes offered on this vehicle wet, comfort, sport, sport plus and manual makes navigating city and highway driving in LA a dream. Choosing a car, I wanted a suv instead of a sedan for it's added cargo area, fold down seats and elevated stance for steep driveways, pot holes and curbs. This car handles city driving with ease enveloping it's occupants in luxury and comfort i.e. Great seats despite higher seat position. As much as I love hp, I could not justify a 63 that cost 30k more with poor gas mileage. The v6 twin turbo offers plenty of hp and excitement for this suv, this coming from an owner of the 2013 Porsche 911S with it's 430hp. Choosing the coupe over the standard Gle suv was a no brainier, the coupe's athletic styling, good looks and increased hp made it a easy choice over the standard Gle. This coupe is the perfect blend between a suv and a sedan by providing more room than a sedan without the heft of a suv.

Will the car stay in 9th gear, from 0-whatever speed and back, through stops signs and lights, if you put it there (in manual mode)?

Would you consider reviewing the BMW X5/6 with the 5.0 and compare? The power to weight ratio alone should give you a different feel. The similar design elements would make for a very interesting comparison imho.

On my own test drive of the 2016 GLE 450 AMG Sport Coupe, I found that whatever the driving mode selected, the vehicle felt top heavy, which manifested itself in excess pitch.

I drove both before deciding on the Mercedes 450coupe. The BMW x6 seemed a bit too tight for me in both front and back rows, but especially in back for headroom. I did not drive the diesel.

my mom is going to buy a car... we live on a bad road ... off road perhaps the road is very bad ... should she buy a x6 or a gle ? which is more reliable ?

keep it up nice reviews. but i think you should give some of ur talk to the interior and the exterior. not for the car and the profomance only.

Hey would you say to get the 21 inch over the 22 inch rims? And was the 22 inch ride hard?

22" TIRE COST VS TREADWEAR is a problem for me. I own the 450 coupe. The soft "performance" tires last about 14-16k miles (yes!). The tread is certified ONLY for summer driving - making the car basically UNDRIVEABLE in winter temps. Recently, however, Michelin has come out with ALL SEASON tires with better treadwear that fit this car. Finally! In the 21" version, all season formula has been available for a while now. That said - I still LOVE my 450!

I saw 1 today and it reminded of BMW X6 but classier. It looks like a good cross before going to GLS

Hi MotoMan. I would prefer the GLE 63 AMG because of the sound and the different features it has which in a country where I live South Africa there's a lot of different terrain which I find GLE 63 suitable to handle. Also that down shift feature really sounds good. The car itself in Black looks very aggressive and appealing the eye and I just love it! But tell me which car in your opinion is more fun to drive between the GLE 63 and the GLE 450?

great review and explanation. these are rare on Australian roads..I've only seen two in as many months. one being the gle 450. great looking vehicle on road. demands attention and looks a lot classier and more expensive than the bmw equivalent.

Hi just to let you know GLE 450 AMG coupe used only, I believe it is better than Porsche Cayenne S 3.6L 2013 model. If you believe the Porsche is better let me know?

I live in Norway, and I, as well as the majority here, prefers the SUV. Our road standards and infrastructure in general are terrible. The utility of higher ground clearance is mainly the reason we choose SUV's over station wagons because of the bad road conditions.

I like suvs cose they looks cool, this one isn´t the most off-road suv but you sit high and that gives you a feeling that an car doesn´t

Mercedes should've gone the extra effort & designed a unique interior for it, instead of just reusing the ML's dashboard ... at least it looks good with the wood option.I still can't make up my mind about the GLE Coupe, I mean I love it, yet I dislike it at the same time ... I got to see the AMG in person a few times (most recently last night), I even sat in it ... but I still can't make up my mind... one thing for sure, I loooooooovvve the 325 dubs on the AMG!I wouldn't mind owning GLE or X6 ... but the GLE must be a GLE63 ... but I'm more relaxed with the X6 ... while I prefer an X6 M, I wouldn't mind an X6 xDrive50i ;)The kitty was a nice touch ... channeling your inner bond villain?as always, excellent Episode M!

How much is it

Wagons rule! They drive like cars, they get the fuel economy similar to cars and they are just as practical. I'll take an A4 Allroad over any SUV that has a slopped rear hatch any day. I personally think BMW SUVs are more handsome than any other brand of SUVs, as far as exterior design goes.

I test drove one of these a few weeks ago. The looks have actually grown on me and I prefer it to the BMW series now, unfortunately the ride and handling was a complete letdown. I suspect the BMW X4/6 ride more comfortably and handle better. Road noise from the optioned 22" wheels was unacceptable IMO. Even with the air suspension, it felt like an older generation vehicle (not the smooth and well-dampened feeling of '14+ vehicles). Engine was not very impressive either given the weight it has to lug around. Crackles and pops without the shear thrust. Transmission was overly eager to shift up and down, but it did do a good job picking the proper gear. Still no PDK though. The cabin was nice (but somewhat dated from all the leftover parts) and the center stack screen felt perfectly placed. I prefer the GLE tablet layout over the C class. Rear passengers will have plenty of space, and you gotta love the almost hatchback cargo area. However, with an MSRP of nearly $80k I just can't justify the GLE over say the Porsche Cayenne or Volvo XC90 (maybe not direct competitors of course).

DANGER- Beware of the software update recall which causes the car to turn off while driving and as Mercedes puts it in there recall notes that if this happens-THE CAR CAN CRASH-and the recall started in July of 2016-and that is exactly what happened to my 2016 GLE450 Coupe on July 14, 2016- the car has 5000 miles and was leased in January of 2016-I had the car towed to the closest dealer for repairs after my wife while entering a parking space at about 3 miles an hour had the car turn off and the car rolled into a post causing $4000 US in damage-the car has been at the dealer for 27 days to date-I assumed Mercedes would handle and pay for all the damages but after waiting a week of no phone calls from either the dealer or the main office in New Jersey I had to start calling and complaining as well as having make a claim with my insurance company to begin repairs-again after weeks of no calls the main office tells me their computer people cannot find an event that caused the car to turn off and they will not be paying for damages-If this same thing had not happened to me while driving I may question my wife and her claim of events but a few weeks prior the car turned off on me while braking at an intersection and luckily there were no cars around me-

I have a GLE 450 2016 8000 miles and have not experienced that situation as of yet. she probably panicked and didn't apply the brake. I enjoy the vehicle- smooth and just enough speed. Doing 90 MPH feels like 40 MPH. And AWD is nice for winter living in IL.

My mom leases this car and i used the car to go to my prom and had the same issue, having the car turn off in the middle of a busy intersection luckily i had to time to turn it off and on just in time and was truly a scary moment

Mercedes needs to get rid of those 1 thousand dash buttons looks beyond cheap, but other than that I kinda like it better than the GLC in my opinion.

+timonxDlol I love the front of the CLS, but I just can't stand the rear lights. Something just looks off about them for. So I would choose the GLE, but the CLS shooting break would be an excellent choice as well :)

hm the lights are only a little bit weird, but ok. but in my opinion theres no family car thats more beautiful (sedans dont count as family cars to me, you cant take 5 people and luggage to a 2 week holiday. we have an e class which has more space than pretty much any other car and we use all that space and coul even use more.

This SUV is better than the bmw x6 ?

I'd choose the gle 450 amg any day, for the kids! for the kids!

If I had to put my money on - I would take C63 sedan If the space is an issue but money are not probably will go for the legendary G If the question is GLE or GLE coupe definitely regular GLE, not only more practical car but also better looking in my eyes. I do not accept the idea of SUV coupe - a coupe should be low, slick and sporty 2 door car. The marketing guys really went beyond the point of any sense - they created too much niches than anybody will ever needs. And I am European.

i don't understand why we don't have station wagons here, well, let me clarify, I know why, the brands make more money with these,so called,suv,cuv or whatever the moniker. The thing is that bmw,mercedes,audi have beautiful functional and even performance monsters in their station wagon niche,they drive like cars,and they also have the "utility", so why not bring them here? audi has to bring the allroad,why not the A6 avant,or the RS6 avant? what about the 5 series wagon, or the Passat wagon?Mercedes where is the C class wagon?, don't get me started with the price on the E class wagon...,what about the cls shooting brake? we have to buy Touaregs or Gle's or X1-3-5's!!!Jeeeeeezzzzz,bring the wagons!!!!

suvs are not meant to go to the track. rappers and big wheels, really stereotyping! its meant for cargo, ground clearance, it being a luxury suv it'll be more a business owner's vhicle instead of a car.

actually learn more by research pimp. SUV's are comparable to cars/sedans when it comes to performance. Less pitch, squat ,dive and roll come from research. My AMG SUV will destroy many cars most likely including your F150(guessing ).

450 AMG trim level is nice on the C class BUT this car needs a V8 .

+Young Luo because mercedes doesnt want to leave that whole coupe suv market to bmw and thats good. there should never be only one product for a complete market, it needs competition so that the car maker has a reason to improve the car. but the gle is not really a copy of the x6, yes the shape is similar, but the gle is a very different car, it´s bigger and more offroad oriented than the x6. its just fatter and more extreme, less sporty in corners but more comfortable its like half a tank

timonxDlol How about they've run out of ideas? simple, they should have left it at the 2015 S65 AMG Coupe V12 Biturbo for the next 2yrs. What is this thing now, and can that annoying misfire thing be turned on and off or is it a permanent feature, X6 was a flop, why would anyone want to copy it?

Young Luo thats pretty stupid they didnt run out of ideas. until this day mercedes innovated most car tech of all car companies and they still do. of course they have already thought about a suv coupe, but mercedes did not think that anybody would buy these cars because they are just less practical than the normal versions and still more expensive so who would buy it, but mercedes was wrong at that and they saw it when the x6 sold so freaking much. the people arent looking for the most practical car or so, nope its the prestige of the x6 for which they buy it, so basically you make money with these cars because people are stupid. and just so that you know bmw copied way more from mercedes. the whole grand coupe thing is a copy from mercedes. mercedes were the first to build a 4 door coupe which nobody thought would sell well or so, but then it sold like hell and now bmw has a 4series grand coupe a 6 series grand coupe.... and then bmw copied the b class, but i am not hating on bmw for that, because all that they copied was the general shape of it and function but they still built their own car and mercedes did the same with the x6 but merc gets hated for it while bmw copies more, but no one cares. and bmw will make a lot more money with what they copied from mercedes than mercedes with the gle coupe. and additional to that german car companies are working together exchanging tech, ideas and sharing things (porsche audi bmw and mercedes). maybe the x6 was a flop as a car, but the sales numbers say something else, it sells freaking much and thats the only reason why mercedes enters the market, because at the end of the day thats what a company is about: making money. and also the gle is not a bad car, it just has a smaller space for shopping or so. and i like its design more and more with every day, especially the front is pretty great. and when you once see it in real life then you know why people buy it, its just such a fat car, these tires are wider than any stock tires ive ever seen on a car thats not costing more than 150.000 euros. its just the prestige from this car which makes people buy it.

and merc will also bring out a glc coupe. and maybe a new amg sportscar in a higher league than the amg gt. maybe a hybrid like the porsche 918 or only a v12 and it will not have the engine at the fron but at the middle behind the driver, so yea mercedes has a lots of ideas which they are already working on, they have more people developing things than any other car company in the world

I wouldn't choose it over anything. I saw one this weekend (or another version), terrible proportions, style, really ugly.

Besides the fact that this is a flying (heavy) turd, the GLC SUV is the better buy. Why anyone buys a lifted Coupe is beyond me. Ugliest thing(trend that should be shot while it sleeps) on the road.
