    Recently bought this bike from a dealer in Northern Colorado. Came with the 117" motor kit installed on it. Very powerful and responsive. This is my 14th Harley since 1995. All I can say is: Thank you HDMC, for FINALLY producing a Dyna worthy of V-twin street dominance. Well done, Harley! And thanks Matt, for the awesome "on-bike" commentary of this bike. I bought my first Harley from you guys at Laidlaw's back in 1995. You've got a great dealership there in So Cal. Keep up the good work.

    Great review man, best I've seen. One note to make regarding the gauges on the tank: I believe all Lowriders stretching back to the shovelheads had speedometer and tachometer mounted in the centre of the tank with fuel cap and dummy (with fuel gauge) on either side. That and the lowered suspension I think are the two defining factors of what makes an FXDL. The current 'trend' of mounting gauges on the T-bar is more of a necessity than a trend as many club style Dynas are built from the FXDS and FXDX models, which come from the factory with riser clamp mounted gauges and fuel cap and fuel gauge in the centre of the tank. You'll notice that clubbed out street bobs typically don't have t-bar mounted gauges either as they come standard with a tank mounted speedometer and fuel gauge. So i suppose if Harley had mounted gauges up high on the riser clamp then it would be a lowered FXDX not an FXDL!

  • @MattLaidlaw

    @MattLaidlaw

    Very true. You're right on all accounts. I just thought since it was an S model maybe they could change it up a little. The rear fender is not a low rider traditional fender. It was just a small complaint. You're right though, the rpm and speedometer gauges on the center console are trademarks of the Lowrider.

    Nice review. I bought one last week. my planned changes are rear luggage rack with detachable pass seat/back rest, rear pegs, throw over bags as needed, Bassani exhaust, tuner, taller risers with a pull back and I'd like to remount the gauges to on top of the bars. other than that I think it's perfect. it's also the 36th Harley I've owned. I've also had 15 sport bikes of various brands and I think the S is a nice blend of the two styles.

    Very informative review. I'm 5'6" and felt cramped on a 2015 Dyna Street Bob with mid-controls (had the dealer swap them out for forward controls) so I would think at 6'6" the Lowrider would feel tiny. Beyond that, my 103ci with stage 1 exhaust, intake and tuning is a fun ride so I'm sure the 110ci was a blast. Thanks for sharing the ride.

    Hey Matt, thinking about buying the Low Rider S but didn't like the mid controls when I took it out for a test ride. Can this bike be easily converted to forward controls by a dealer and would this ruin the feel of the bike in your opinion? Really prefer front controls that bikes like the breakout and forty-eight give but would it feel as good on the Low Rider S with front controls? Also love the extra power from the 110 engine although not massively keen on the CVO Pro Street Breakout's look.

    No, I don't think this is a sign of them moving to water cooler bikes. HD is just making their product better like any good company to keep demand up and entice customers to continue to buy their bikes. Just good business. Same reason Apple didn't stop at the first iPhone they made.

    I had the chance see a Low Rider S in person the other day and liked the bike overall. That said, I was not crazy about the rim color though - they seemed more brown/green to my eyes (not a good color). I don't know much about powder coating, but do you think they could be redone relatively well in maybe a bright red? Or what color do you think would pop? Thanks in advance for any input you provide. Keep up the good videos and reviews! They are all very informative and not just a regurgitation of specs I can find on the website or just reading from a HD press release.

    Thanks for the feed back and thanks for watching. Yes, the wheels could be re-powder coated to whatever color you wanted. The color on the wheels is supposed to resemble magnesium wheels. These are cast aluminum I believe. Harley was just going for that old school look that's coming into trend right now.

    Hi Matt, Cloud you help me with something. I have a 2016 HD 1200 Roadster with V&H Exhaust, RDS air Filter and FP3 Fuel pack and, by watching your video's i become caught up about this idea of changing the Roadster to an LowRider S from 2016. The question that i have, is the Low Rider S good, maneuverable in the city? I will use the bike mostly for city rides, and not so much for out the city (for that i have a 2006 GSA) I ve seen that you complained about the excessive heat, is that still present while using the LoveJags ventilators?

    Hey Matt, I've always thought the same thing about the gauges on the standard low rider. Do you think they kept them in the same place on the s because they know guys are gonna put tall T bars on the bike? I always liked where the gauges were on the old dyna sport and fxrs, but I'd imagine that's tough to do with a 14' T bar.

  • @MattLaidlaw

    @MattLaidlaw

    I really don't know why they place the gauges where they are. I think it's a cleaner look actually, aesthetically speaking. For function though, on the bars is a lot better. It's not a huge deal breaker for me but I think it also gives it a sportier look to have the gauges on the bars as well.

We dont have any low rider S yet in my country so I have to put a deposit down first when it arrives next month. Hows the ride compared to the slim s? I will be using mostly around town and weekly out of town trips. Bike looks nice! Im concerned about the slim s floorboards scrapping on turns. What you think about this on the low rider s? Not a problem? Im 5'7" you think the seats not that tall for me? Thanks Matt.

    They are two very different styles. The slim has more of the bobber, post World war 2 look. The dyna has more of a dirt bike handling to it. More of a traditional way of suspension too.

    I'm in the market for a harley, test rode the fat bob and loved it, the thing I didnt liked is the front mount pegs, found it wierd shifting (currently ride a sports bike) then I tested a street bob with mid mounted pegs and didnt like the fact the pegs where in the way when I was stopped. The lowrider S looks like its in the middle between front and mid mount pegs, is this true? And also looks like this has better lean angle and better handling, I liked the better handling of the fat bob over the street bob. Will go test ride this bike soon

  • @MattLaidlaw

    Yes the low Rider is between forward and mid mount controls. The forward controls are easy to get used to. It's really a question of how tall you are and your preferences.

    Matt Laidlaw, I know it isn't exactly comparing apples to apples with this question, but which bike would you recommend the Low Rider S or the Breakout? I was worried about the harley breakout having a terrible lean angle.... but if you were to be buying one of the two which would you get? Every other bike i look at I just keep coming back to how awesome the Breakout looks. But and again i don't even know if it would be practical for me... I'm 5'10" and have been riding for about 2 years.

  • @MattLaidlaw

    @MattLaidlaw

    7 жыл бұрын

    Bama Gixxer it's hard to say because like you pointed out they are very different. The breakout delivers an awesome, mean, muscle, chopper look. The low rider S is a better handling, faster accelerator bike, and more nimble. Go with the one that you prefer the style of and that is more conducive to your riding preference.

    +David Jobbins The FXDX is a great bike that a lot of people would kill for. I would say test ride one. There is a lot of modern technology like brakes, ABS, cruise, Throttle by wire, Suspension etc that is a lot better. Me personally I am all about getting the newer bikes. My opinion - have both!

    +Mythos714 I doubt they will ever do a crossbones again. I don't think H-D will ever use that same old springer front end ever again. They can't incorporate ABS brakes into that technology. I keep crossing my fingers that H-D comes out with a Re-Invented Springer front end that they can incorporate some of these modern features into such as ABS.

  • @MattLaidlaw

    @MattLaidlaw

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Mario Recreo JR Yes, it's the Laidlaw's H-D in Baldwin Park, CA (One and Only). I'm assuming your weight is a type-O? At 5'4'' I would probably steer you towards the Slim because it has a lower seat height but they are different bikes with different chassis. You could make the Dyna work for you but right "out of the box" the Slim is going to be a lower seat height which would make you more "flat-footed".

    Yes. It's a Harley-Davidson my friend. The most customizable motorcycles in the world. You just throw on a 2 - up seat and put some passenger pegs on. Then if you want to take it a step further you can install a passenger back rest as well. You'll need to relocate the license plate and change the rear turn signal arms.

    I think this motorcycle looks great. I looked it up after you said the lowrider model has dual disc brakes. But no Brembo brakes, house brand front and rear suspension, very little travel in the rear suspension for $17,500 is just too much. Its 110ci (1.8 liter) engine only produces 113ft-lbs of torque which just isn't as much as it should be for such a large engine. If the motorcycle was $15,000 - $15800 I could try to look past its shortcomings, knowing I'd have to replace the exhaust with something that didn't take up so damn much room on the motorcycle and replace the rear shocks with some with more travel.

  • @MattLaidlaw

    Nope. They are actually neither mid or forward. They are the new pegs that came out with the lowrider half way through the 2015 model year. They are between mid and forward.
