2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited | CarGurus Test Drive Review

The Jeep Wrangler’s an American icon, embodying the best combination of attributes you can buy in a vehicle today. It’s got a convertible top for summer and 4-wheel drive for winter and going off-road year round. It has some of the most unique styling and consistently rugged standard equipment available in any new car.
No matter which version you choose, the 4-door Wrangler Unlimited comes equipped with Chrysler’s Pentastar 3.6-liter V6, making 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of all-important torque. Power is sent through either a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission to standard 4-wheel drive.
Every Wrangler Unlimited has safety features like multistage airbags, electronic stability control, electronic roll mitigation, and ultra-strong roll bars. But the Wrangler Unlimited lacks high-tech features like lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and forward-collision avoidance. It’s doesn't even offer a backup camera. We expect to find these in the next-gen Wrangler. Read more on CarGurus: cargur.us/9DSFT

The Wrangler's individuality is it's strongest point. Let's hope with the next gen Chrysler doesn't f#%k it up like they did with the Cherokee. And we don't need too many electronics, the reason why the Wrangler is the most reliable of all Chrysler products is its simplicity. The more electronics you add the more things that can and will eventually fail, an issue that currrently plagues many automakers.

Half doors, soft top, 2 door, 6spd manual and traction lock rear axle. Sport "S" Package. The half doors and soft uppers, are 10 times better than the TJ version. Any return buyers from the previous gen will think these are a caddy!! Under 30 grand the way I described above. I suggest any first time Wrangler buyers go jeeping with a buddy before you purchase. All the new electronics are hooey in this rig. It is really all about the Jeep thing. If you have 2 kids and a spouse, make sure this is your second car. Trust me. Nice review.

I've been studying, reading, watching everything I can about Jeep Wranglers. If I pull the trigger on a new one it will be a manual, sport with half doors and the optional AC. It will rarely have the top on it. Of course it will be a pleasure only vehicle.

I put the top down on mine during the Spring and Fall months and it's great but in Dallas in the Summer, forget it! It's just too hot! Also, I got full doors and leave them on with the top down because at my age, the power windows, locks and especially mirrors are just too convenient. I used to leave the doors off my CJ but that was 30+ years ago and things like arm wrests have grown in importance!

I paid $33k for my 2012 model JK 4-door Sport and it is my fifth Jeep, starting way back with a 1983 CJ-7. The 2012 was the first year with the 3.6 liter V-6 and mine has the 6-speed manual. Even with the lower trim level, it came with Sirius, Bluetooth and power windows and locks and It has a ton more horsepower than the previous 3.7 liter. I have had other brands in between but always seem to come back to a Jeep. My big concern was when Chrysler bought AMC back in the 80's, that the new, smaller, plastic Jeep would suffer by comparison. Now it's no where near as tough but a lot more driver/owner friendly and I have been very happy with it.

I have the extreme crazy purple back country Sierra whatever they wanna call it. It does not get that good of gas mileage when you add bigger tires. I get 13 miles to the gallon. But wouldn’t trade it for nothing

Keep jeep a jeep. Roll bar, removable doors with exposed hinges and fold down windshield. Keep the same dimensions or smaller.

Unfortunately the JEEP is the only off-road focused vehicle being made, what with the demise of the FJ and Xtetta. JEEP has a unique opportunity to own the market. Hope they maintain quality over just numbers. I fear that knowing the U.S. car makers logic, they will slack off and quality will drop since they know that they have a captive audience. Forget all that talk about electronic gadgets, the JEEP's forte is being rugged and off-road. Better buy your JEEP now before the new models come in with fancy useless stuff and a higher price tag. The other carmakers must be envious, and are planning new off-road vehicles.

Sadly this model is over priced and doesn't come with the same off road goodies that the Rubicon does for 10k less. I love my wrangler and wouldn't trade it for anything

I have a soft top and live in Dallas, TX and no one has yet to "break" in. There's no real need to break anything; they just have to know how to operate a zipper to get into my car! But I'm just smart about it and lock my valuables in the glove compartment and console when I park.
