You mentioned wanting to take the car to the track. I have a sports car that's demanding to be driven on the track too, but when I went to the beginner group they put me on the track with a lot of other cars and I was driving a few feet from them, which made me scared to death I'd spin out or do some kind of damage since I had no clue what I was doing despite having an instructor that couldn't care less about my driving. Do most tracks let you drive on the track when it's not packed with other cars?

***** You make a quick comment on the engine overheating. Was the car set up for the track as per the manual? I personally have one without any issues/ also spent 2 days at Spring Mountain in 100+ temps with out any issue pushing the car through 25 minute minimum session's, no issues

Kiel R We drove the vehicle as it was delivered, having announced our intentions to drive it on track beforehand. In examining the issue the Z06's Chief Engineer, Tadge Juechter, has mentioned heat issues related to the automatic transmission and the license plate position. But in our case neither of those factors applied. I know how hot it can get at Spring Mountain (love that track). Can you elaborate on any special prep you perform to get your Z06 track-ready?

  • @kerviper3742

***** There is not much the manual wants you to put DOT4 in the brakes, track alignment, and change the oil from the 5w-30 to 15W-50 for track use. If you have steel brakes your also suppose to install vent plates for brake cooling. I believe the autos to be more able to over heat by design since they still are fluid converters. When I was there we had 7 in our group some autos some M7, no one over heated except for one auto who ran 2 sessions back to back. Like I said before most sessions where 25-30 min, 5 in 3 hrs. Full A/C running with A/C seats. All cars stock with track prep per manual. What sessions lengths/brakes did you give the car during filming? How do you find out "special' set ups or not when you do reviews from the guys who give you the cars? I would think this would help make your review even more credible when you know ever detail about how the car should be when and can say "hey overheated on me and was set like the manual says". Just a thought for future reviews. I did enjoy the review, I feel you captured the car very well. PS I'm not an old guy with a Vette that doesn't use it properly

"Let's put in track mode". Yes, you're on a track. It should have been in track mode from the time you turned the car on. You also didn't mention the 5 different PTM modes that you get in track mode. You can completely adjust the amount of "management" you get, making it possible to drive as hard as you want while not being able to spin it, if that's what you want.

I have been a Corvette fan for almost 40 years, worked on them, driven over 20 years worth of them, but damnit, I am a little disappointed. The C7 Z06 is an animal at the drag strip and on the road course, but they do get hot. Since I have only seen one one up close, I noticed the radiator looks like a 1 or 2 row core which is insane. This would explain some of the problem. The ZR1 had the crap beat out of them in all types of temperatures, testing and the interior would overheat before the powertrain. I never heard of the ZR1 overheating. I just don't understand why they wouldn't use atleast a 3-4 core radiator to dissipate the tremendous heat especially with the A8 fluid going into the tank.
