    Wow Alex you are fast. I thought this car with the VR30DETT wasn't due to road duty till at least summer. As for the Q50, the 3.0 V6 twin turbo just makes me love this car even more. The car looks great to my eyes (unlike the IS350) so styling changes seem unnecessary. The adaptive suspension is a nice change as the last 2014 Q50S I've driven left my passengers feeling sore due to its stiff setup. I had no qualms about DAS in the 2014, but an improvement is nice. If this car is priced right (e.g. under the ATS 3.6 Performance), then this is a great package.

Assuming this model of car has a *Spare Valet Key. I own a Jag and this feature stands out in my opinion. and I don't see it as a draw back, its a huge plus for me. Very nice, no BS, informative reviews. I have a '16 RWD Obsidian Black Q50 RS400, love it. 2 common complaints, Dunlop run flats stinks, Pilot Super Sports fix that. Way too quiet exhaust, got the Infiniti branded Motorsport exhaust. Don't get DAS, us the $1000 towards tires/exhaust then you a really nice sport sedan. The engine is fantastic, torque everywhere, the shifting is fine "if" you stay on the gas during upshifts, I use the paddles all the time and stay in Sport+ mode, my daily smile maker.....great looking car.

  • @askdrj
    @askdrj8 жыл бұрын

    I currently drive a 2008 335xi and have several modifications in place (JB4, downpipes, straight pipe exhaust system, spacers). I am interested in trading this in for a new 340i, however, I test drove an Infiniti Q50S Red Sport (400hp) and really enjoyed the driving experience with the Infiniti. I found that the Q50 has more interior space, more advanced technology, more horsepower (the car is a beast!), and doesn't have the staggered tire formation (AWD model). With staggered tires, you can't rotate the tires, and have to spend significantly more on tire replacement. I know that the BMW drives and handles extremely well having owned one for 6 years, however, the poor reliability factor of the BMW concerns me. What is your opinion on both cars and is the new BMW built better than the 2008 335xi which is prone to check engine lights and numerous very expensive repairs. I'm having a tough time deciding which is the better car. They are both similarly priced. Please shed your insight on both of these amazing machines. Thank you

    Nice review. However, unless I missed it, you failed to touch on the 7AT. I had a 2009 G37s with the 7AT, and without a single doubt, the worst feature on that car was the lethargic transmission. Knowing that they still are using that general unit (as opposed to something superior from ZF) would keep me from considering another G-sedan - even one with 400hp.

    +Olive View It's not the same 7-speed, software and cooling changes were made. It is hard to comment firmly since I have not had it on my home turf yet but it's an improvement. Not as good as a ZF 8-speed but better than the Aisin autos in the Lexus.

    Got a test drive booked next month for this guy I'm excited, that said coming back to this video I wounder why Infiniti opted for 19's on the wheel instead of 18. The slightly smaller tire would improve turn in, fuel economy, 0-60 times etc. Although I must admin the 19's fill out the wheel well very nicely.

    Pricing is going to be super important , if The fully-loaded price tag on this is within five grand of the ats-V people are going to have a hell of a choice to make. By my estimation it would need to be 6500 or more below the entry price of the ats-v,about 10%, as that is roughly the horsepower difference between this and the next rung of performance. fully loaded 56000 is about all I would pay.

    I just realized the inclusion of the Q50 RS and the re-shuffling of the lineup, Infiniti has quietly dropped my personal favorite model combination: the Q50S Hybrid (or the Sport Hybrid). From 2016+, the Hybrid now becomes solo option with the luxury model's bodykit but the 19" wheels from the sport. This is upsetting as the Q50 Sport looks a LOT better than the luxury model IMO. The RS has awesome power, but nowhere near the MPG of its hybrid counterpart. With the introduction of the 400hp RS, Infiniti probably figured the power-hungry buyers would skip the Hybrid (the prior hp king in the lineup) hence the reason of doing so. I liked the duality of a sporty hybrid, but looks like Infiniti thinks otherwise.

I have never really seen someone compare the Q50 to a CLA or A3. Those are in different categories. But then again maybe only in the USA will this comparison be made. Strange.... They should consider selling the C200 in the USA as it is all you ever need and here the 320i competes with the C200 and Audi A4 2.0t.

    Interesting that you didn't mention the torque for the Hybrid. It's 472lb-ft... way more impressive than the Red Sport. But it just seems like you breezed over the Hybrid like it's insignificant.

    +mrcuboid We didn't cover the hybrid because it isn't new for 2016, this review focuses mainly on the new Red Sport 400 as the title indicates. Combined torque is not 472 according to Infiniti but 402 lb-ft. You cannot add the engine torque and the motor torque together directly since they are not making max torque at the same time. The way the torque curves of the motor and engine align the maximum is 402.

    Alex, I am not sure why you think this is not a direct competitor to the 340i. 340i will be putting down around 330hp to the wheels (Some have already been dynoed at 367hp stock by the large auto mags. Infiniti advertises crank HP so plan for around 320hp at the wheels. According to your assumption, fully loaded will be at about 60k while the 340I Msport fully loaded ends up at about 63k. Very comparable in my mind. What am I missing here besides maintenance time hopefully being significantly lower in the infiniti?

  • @AAutoBuyersGuide

    +Michael Hough It's obvious in our preliminary 1/4 mile times especially that the Inifniti produces more power than the 340i, it completed the 1/4 mile nearly 1/2 second faster despite the 340i having no wheel slip and the Q50 exhibiting a ton. The AWD Q50 RS 400 is likely going to push that to 6/10ths to 7/10ths faster in the 1/4 mile which is a big difference.

    +Alex on Autos you mentioned that you were clocking 4.9 in the rwd. BMW claims faster. Correct, the awd will be faster, but so is the Bmw. The Bmw was almost the same to 60 in 2007 when both of these cars predecessors were new models. The Bmw walked it after 60. This does not take into account that there is more to competition than 0-60 speed. I think a head to head with the new s4, q50, and 340 in awd variants would be due. They are direct competitors in price and in overall package with nearly identical performance on paper. I am cross shopping these three now. Just need them to come out this summer so I can decide for myself.

    +Michael Hough This isn't conjecture, we tested the 340i right after the Q50 and the Infiniti ran 4.8-4.9 with wheel slip, the BMW ran 4.9 with zero slip, so AWD won't make it any faster.

    Arm3nia91 I leased a 2012 G37S Coupe back in 2011, great car. Loved the engines in the G's. When my lease was up, I drove the new Q50, didn't like the steering, and the engine was dated and didn't get very good fuel economy. I ended up buying a 335i because it handles and is just as fast if not faster than my G Coupe, and gets 20+ mpg. Also is a bit more comfy with the Adaptive M suspension. Still, G was a brilliant car.

    Yep, and the replacement is long overdue. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed my 08 37 these past 8 years, primarily for style, handling, and reliability, but the VQ always needed more power (torque is garbage) per liter, and aftermarket solutions (NA or FI) to that are not cheap. The VR will prob be a breeze to tune, and I'll be curious to see what the stock turbos are capable of pushing in concert with e85/MS109 fuel maps.
