Home of the fastest runners (men and women) in the world for YEARS, Jamaica somehow manages to run the most amateur trials. This is not a middle school race. This is not supposed to be a track and field version of Cool Runnings. This is the Olympic trials. And still, it appears none of the officials have ever done their jobs before.

Why doesn't the system tell you which lane false started? Seems like such a simple and obvious feature to have.
@thinkingjoe5440
8 жыл бұрын
True
@Spursrule1969
8 жыл бұрын
The system does tell them which lane as it's all computerised, a print out will tell them all the reaction times, each set of starting blocks have pressure plates, when the athletes are in the set position it records the pressure, if the pressure changes within 0.1 sec of the starting pistol the automatic recoil gun should sound, The problem here is lane 3 moved his feet (changing the pressure) but as long as his feet are still touching the blocks and his hands haven't moved he's not done a false start, it looks like lane 1 did false start assuming his reaction time is less than 0.1 sec. If so then lane 1 should have been disqualified, once you ignore lane 3's reaction time if anyone else has a time sub 0.1 and either feet or hands move then they have to be DQ'ed, obviously when you watch the race it looks like a clear false start so when they then go look at the print out it showed lane 3 as having caused the recoil gun to sound, I guess they gave lane 1 the benefit of doubt that maybe he might have heard movement in lane 3 and started, I know years ago if someone false started and the guys on either side (say lanes 2 & 4) started early they would get the benefit of doubt that lane 3 caused them to leave early, I've never heard of them doing that with a guy 2 lanes away and I thought they had stopped that rule anyway.
@Mrwiseguy101690
8 жыл бұрын
Spursrule1969 Wow thank you for the very detailed explanation.
@hx3500
8 жыл бұрын
The correct explanation is as follows: Starting blocks 1 and 3 were in the wrong positions/lanes; Nickel Ashmead, in lane 3, was incorrectly shown a red card because the the computer erroneously registered starting block #3 instead of starting block #1, which is where the false start occurred. The error was later discovered and the problem corrected by moving the starting blocks to the correct positions.... So starting block #3 was moved to its correct position in lane 1 and starting block #1 moved to lane 3, its correct position.... This was the final analysis.

Wow! Glad the ref changed it to a warning. Huge Jamaica track fan.
Why doesn't the system tell you which lane false started? Seems like such a simple and obvious feature to have.

Spursrule1969 Wow thank you for the very detailed explanation.
@hx3500

Wondering why Bolt doesn't have to run. They do in the US. Regardless of what you have to compete in the US Olympic trial to go through.

We are all humans, so we can make a mistake. I think it was some kind of sensor issue. The positive was they could fix it with the "warning card". Jamaican Sprinters (males and females) always bring us a big show on the track and field. Best wishes for all of them.

This too nerve racking
The offender's hands were clearly off the ground before the gun. It's well that he didn't place for the olympics and that Yohan Blake won with such a commanding lead together with a team mate.

This was so embarrassing, what did they watch, because clearly Livermore and stumbled out of the block and Ashmead reacted... When in doubt get them all back in the race and get the race on the way. Asafa was left in the blocks, not sure if he stumbled.
