Nice review. There are two small things that everyone misses. There are umbrella holders in the door side panels. Although you have to find a fairly fat and short umbrella to store there else it slides into the pockets when you have stop. And SL is missing the exterior "shark fin" or satellite antenna found on almost every other car. After the SL Mercedes is hiding in some of the other newer models as well. Oh, and one other thing. Change the time and watch the clock on top of the dash! Ok, silly things. But the important stuff was already covered. The adjustable warmer massaging seats were an important factor for me after having them in my 2004 Cadillac DTS. When I experienced being able to just turn on the heat to my back without having to heat the whole seat along with a little massage I was in middle aged heaven! The SL does it even better, with a better massage and varible heat direction. And Mercedes lets you cool and heat at the same time. This car has power that exceeds what the old AMG models had so even the "base" 550 is quite quick. And deceptively quick. I just put my foot in it a little to go around a cluster of cars - there are plenty of room and there no anger involved, just an opening in traffic - and in a blink of an eye I was looking at triple digits. The down side? Tires for the car are expensive! And they don't last long. While some love to pan the car for not looking like a supercar or being an AMG GT this is much more liveable than any of those with space in the interior and even a reasonable trunk. I can get a lot in it even with the top down. Lots more than in that XLR! And simply being able to press a button to have the air deflector in place or hidden is a great feature when transitioning from highway to cruising!!

Best car ever, the R230 ruined me for anything else.

The SL should be for Sport Luxury, it is heavy but that is good, means much more stable on high speed, more stable is more important than zero to 60 ratings, lighter weight cars can loose control easily especially if a gust of cross wind intersect it, or on a roads where there are dips in the pavement, I regretfully noticed that the quality of materials and paint in a the 2013 and up models are a lot less quality than the S and E classes, the paint mostly not ceramic, the black upper and lower grills are cheap, low quality, less dense and brittle, they fade quickly during nozzle types of car washes, sadly corolla quality, the leather seats wear out horribly quickly, arm rest covering is thin and feels like a cheap vinyl, air intakes hoses are trash, car of that caliber should have better built quality, the red paint clear coats are peeling off and Mercedes are repainting theses cars at their cost, the rear windows side triangle pieces are flacking off.....etc i am a big fan of Mercedes vehicles, I currently own 3 S classes and a 2014 E550 coupe, I have been looking for a pre-owned SL550 for over a year and yet to find one that is perfect as the other 4 pr-owneds I got.

Today I smoked it with my F30 today that’s why I’m here to see what it is

it's not at all likely that people are changing the speed on their cruise controls it's just that not all cruise controls are equally capable of maintaining a constant speed under all conditions. there are many factors to consider including the weight of the vehicle, head/tail winds, inclines/declines and acceleration and deceleration capabilities of engines and brakes. and BTW, this wise-cracking guy sounds like the kind of 'buy it or not, it's up to you.." car salesman i like to buy a car from.

Nice review of an excellent - if over complicated and indulgent car. However, may I point out that the word I think you need when describing what you believe to be the original owners of this car is "affluent" with an "A" not "effluent" with an "E" - these words mean very different things. Maybe you really mean rich people are all effluent and I am missing the point?!!!

No, this is the R231, which is substantially lighter than the R230 due to the use of more aluminum in the construction. There were many other changes/upgrades as well.

Hey Bill. Seeing how you mentioned the ventilated seats, which other deadbeat car manufacturers call "cooled" seats, Mercedes is still the only car that you can ventilate and heat your seats at the same time. Nobody wants a sweaty ass when you're on a hot date.
