2015 Ford Fiesta EcoBoost review (1.0-Litre)

Competitors to the Ford Fiesta are the Fiat 500 Turbo, Smart fortwo, Toyota Yaris sedan, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, Ford Fiesta, Kia Soul, Nissan Versa, Chevy Sonic, Chevrolet Sonic, Kia Rio, Honda Fit, Honda HR-V, Toyota Yaris, Chevy Spark, Chevrolet Spark, Chevy Cruze, Chevrolet Cruze, Kia Forte, VW Jetta, VW Golf, Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Golf, Dodge Dart, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Elantra, Nissan Sentra, Fiat 500, Fiat 500X, Mazda3, Mazda2, Mazda6, Scion iM and Mitsubishi Lancer.

    The main issue with 1.0l eco boosts is that coolant leaks from the head gasket causing overheating therefore warping the head. However a lot of people don’t check there levels every day. Ford fixed this issue but switching the head the other way round and it worked. So all new engines are fine. The transmission I have no defence for its a piece of shit lol

    I do laugh when he says that 5 speed manual transmission is a very small market. Whereas here that's about 98% of the market.

    I've just bought the Zetec S Red Edition 140 bhp, I've had it around a month & it indicates that I'm getting 34 mpg WTF. Then I remember the smile from ear to ear that I have on my face while driving it, its so much fun 0-60 in 9 seconds 125 mph top speed, hitting every speed limit as fast as possible whilst out & about its addictive. I love this car & I'm extremely happy with my choice.

    A great small car this.. I've got one and it's a hoot to drive! Mine is the 100bhp model with the 3 cylinder ecoboost engine. It's perfectly fine and feels like a 1.6. It's fitted with the manual 5 speed and has long gearing. They say the automatic is good too. Mine is the titanium model which has all the goodies you would need. One thing though that you failed to mention.. It has a great engine sound. A kind of a thrumb that you'd get with a more powerful car.. A an excellent choice if your thinking of buying.. I like 👍

    Love this car. I've had one since January (but in a sedan and metal flake black) and I really love driving it and the fuel economy. Took a road trip last week and got 44.1 MPG on regular 87 octane Chevron fuel (I think sold at Caltex in Canada - yes it does actually matter in my experience). Oh, and a manual transmission just sweetens the deal. ;-)

    +So Sul So it's been a little over a year bow and I recently broke 20k miles. I still love the car. It gets phenomenal gas mileage and still has enough power to get up and go. There really isnt much that I dont like about it, the only things that I can really think of are: *the silver trim inside (painting them next weekend) *the spare tire cover in the trunk is flimsy (cutting a stiffer piece of plywood at some point) *AC causes a noticable difference in performance ( I dont really use AC though) Overall I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a daily driver or anyone who takes long trips. If they made the ST in a sedan I might consider trading up but as of right now I am still very happy and impressed

    Nice that there is no vibration and super quiet, but Ford went (back) to a timing belt - not a chain to help accomplish this? Have to assume that the timing belt would need to be changed as a maintenance item some time in the future that offsets at least some of the money saved on gas over the standard engine. Plus you pay a premium to get the engine? Don't mind the manual only option on it though - prefer it on this category car.

  • @mmiller1188

    @mmiller1188

    The video is wrong there. They went with a timing belt to (1) reduce costs (2) reduce drag. It is bathed in oil so it can last the life of the engine; there is no service interval on this timing belt because it is a lifetime. It's of a different material to handle oil. The oil pump is also belt driven. To offset vibrations, the flywheel is keyed and weighted.

    Thank you for saying that. This is the first Ford I was curious about ever. We owned a focus and it was an absolute toilet from 35,000 on. It was horrible.I bought it with 30,000 on it. I can officially say we owed a ford, Chrysler, and gm car and they couldn't hold a candle to the Toyota's we had. They were awesome. So we only look at the major asian players. I do like and always liked mitsubishi and will look at the mirage G4 when it arrives locally.

The Mirage is a much more superior car, its basic (hey isn't that the point in a sub-compact??) way more affordable, better value when it comes to maintenance and tops this car when it comes to fuel economy. Price, Value and Economy is what Sub Compacts are all about, not toys or power to dazzle your teenagers......I had a Mirage and would buy another one in a heart beat, this Ford is over-priced and misses the mark on what a affordable compact car should be.

    Developed by Ford in the UK, We know a bit about engines, being the base of Formula One. With the exception of Ferrari, all F1 engines are British designed & built, including Mercedes. I've got an Ecoboost Fiesta, it's a higher spec car, a European Titanium which is slighty better specced than American versions. Its phenomenal - quiet, refined & powerful. The higher octane fuel we have over here probably makes a difference. I wish car manufacturers would put the same specced cars on the market in North America as we have in Europe, you are being short changed, and that's a real shame.

  • @juffurey

    @juffurey

    i think the european models are better specced overall because they are much more expensive than the US models, but i'm pretty sure the new fiesta sfe (american name for the fiesta 1.0L ecoboost) can get all the bells and whistles like the european versions, like the "titanium" package + extra options. what octane rating petrol you usually use? in the US the highest we can get most places is 91, equivalent of 95.3 european rating. maximum octane ratings are dependent on state laws, so it varies.
