@Elliejp55 there are rubber nipples behind the front fenders and some located in the rear of the vehicle when you open the rear hatch. We live on a dirt road, so I typically clean the front ones every couple of months. I just pull off both front wheels, pop off a couple of those cheap Phillips head clips closest to the firewall that hold the inner fender on, and then stick your hand up inside until you feel the rubber nipple. Squeeze it with your finger tips and it'll break up any buildup. It's that easy. To test it you can open your sunroof and pour a little bit of water into each port to see if it drains. Good luck!

How did this end for you?? On our '16 XLT the sunroof glass quit doing anything AND the front map lights only come on with the keyfob (unlocking), rear cargo (center overhead), and 2nd row left/right map lights, and now the rear 2 door windows will not roll up from the rear door power switches!!! All this at the same time. Never had any issues before!! Sunroof headliner/sunshade runs back and forth just fine for both glasses though. Fuse would HAVE to be to easy....
@indysaab
Ай бұрын
@@COWBOYZNATION worked out well. Pulled the roof down. Ended up finding water in the motor, there are two motors. Tried swapping them but it didn’t improve things. Swapped them back. And decided to not use the moonroof anymore. Few hours later I came out and the moonroof opened on its own. So I manually closed it and tested it with a hose. Then unplugged everything. The true fix would’ve been replacing BOTH motors and reprogramming it all. But if water got in there once, it possibly could a second time. So I left In inoperable

@@FordBossMe you bet! No problem. I’ve looked everywhere for this answer ( nothing solid and 100 percent answered) and I know you answered it rather quickly in this video . I would just like a 100% confirmation from you on the passengers side motor ( shade / curtain) . Is it the same exact part number as the (driver’s side ) sunroof motor ?

And it might sound a little backwards and so I invite you to consider this: take the negative comments as a compliment and evidence that you are doing the right thing. It’s a sign you are helping a lot of people. There will be tests!!!

I appreciate the video. My explorer decided to no cooperate anymore when I try to use the moonroof and the sunshade only covers works to cover the giant immobile glass. About to jump into it and see what I can find. Fingers crossed that it’s simply a fuse but if not, I now have the know key to change the motor thanks to you and your video.

I completely agree with you about the comments. I truly appreciate the insight. It may give me enough info to give it a try or to say this is beyond my capacity. My wife’s Escape is a 2014 and the motor is a different than in the video so I need to do some digging to see if the motor was just upgraded. Why anyone would bitch is beyond my comprehension! Thanks!
Thank you for pointing out the two different motors and which one does what. In my case just the front shade is not working.

rich, the video is great, straight to the point with all the insiders tips, what more could a viewer ask for.one honest question, do those have any drainage issues that would submerge a motor or just constant moisture causing the eventual corrosion?

Rich, I’ve got a question for ya. My stepfather has a ‘11 F-150 I think it’s a 5 liter. Anyway he’s got an A/C issue. Driver’s side isn’t cold but pass. side is cold. Everything else works blend door etc.. I will not see the truck to be able to check it out for a week or so. So I haven’t seen the truck yet to even look at it. I just wanted to pick your brain 1st. I’m a 3rd generation mechanic however I’m not a master tech nor claim to know everything and I always love learning from REAL techs who actually get their hands dirty. I understand your busy if you have a minute I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks again.

Thanks so much!!! where are you located???I am 65 years old woman...the Ford dealer is charging me 2.000.dollars for fixing my 2015 explorer that is leaking and bottoms are not working :( some car shops don't know the sunroof system ...or don't consider this issue as important...I assume. Thanks for your video I will try.
Now my problem I think started a year or so ago, Pretty sure the drain lines I did t know about plugged up and probably ruined one or both of the motors, got everything apart and I'm at the motors, the sun roof is stuck open and won't do anything, The shade will only open and close on the moon roof part, My question is do I need to replace both motors?
@cbtolin22

No, if the shade is moving, you only need to replace the glass motor (LH).
I appreciate the video man
Thanks it was really nice
glad it wasn't a blown fuse, if it was, their is a deeper problem. mine stopped working. after water came out of my light. guessing my drains and plugged and some corrosion.
I am having an issue with a 2012 Explorer sunroof. I changed both the sliding glass motor and the shade motor. I also changed the switch, but it still doesn't work. I did the reset procedure which worked just fine, but after that nothing. I can't even get the shade to open. What do you think is causing this?

I would say probably a bad motor or bad switch or an issue with the wiring such as maybe like a fuse issue or something to that extent so it would have to be diagnosed professionally

@@FordBossMe Thanks for the quick response. Fuses number 8 in the junction box is good and fuse number 38 in the body control module are good. It's getting current, so I guess I will have to follow the wiring to see if there is a bad ground somewhere.
