2:12 three wide , a pass, then a repass ,,,, then the chase is on, ,, (a tear in my eye, as on the run towards Indianapolis, the leading Porsche bottoms out a few times, and the sparks flare out from the diffuser! Serenity! ) thank you so much for the upload, cheers

+raikkonen2013 he seem to get out and drive back to the pits fine. They didn't even pull him in to repair anything. So I think it was just driver error.

Are those LMP1 cars faster on track than F1 cars?

I would say almost. The F1 cars still got a higher topspeed and way more downforce. But the LMP1 cars got more power and a better ERS. So the gap is getting smaller ;)

+xXAlmdudlerXx Sure. Even tho that the F1 still can get faster through a corner. But think about the large Mulsanne Straight. ;) A Sebastian Vettel in his Ferrari F16 could leave a Anthony Davidson in his Toyota TS050 way behind. LMP1 cars got a limit of max. 340kph because of security reasons. F1 are open end. I think an F1 car can hit the magical 3.10 mark on Sarthe ;)

xXAlmdudlerXx for the cost compared to F1, LMP1 cars are very close to f1 performance and safer as driver is not exposed to debris impacts and neck crush during rollover.

It's not the gearbox, it's the ERS alternatively harvesting and deploying on the front axle.

They're using far more powerful energy recovery systems in LMP1, and on full power the hybrid boost is almost half of the powertrain's overall output. That's how they're getting 1000-1100bhp on full power, the engine is about 500-600 and the rest is electric boost.
