it might be coming from the valve cover gasket or valve seals dripping down from the top

I had my belts replaced about 7 months ago and I am getting a squeal when I start up and it goes away after the engine is warm. It is worse on damp or rainy days. Does this sound like a belt is bad already? I would think that if it was a bearing or pulley that it wouldn't go away after the engine was warm.

  • @AutomotiveAuthority

It could be several things causing a squeal and its hard to say exactly what it is. The belt could need to be replaced or the tensoiner could be starting to wear out would be my top guesses. You could also try a belt conditioner spray from a local auto parts store that could also remedy the noise without having to guess and throw parts at it.

This belt change is a LOT easier done if you do it when you change the spark plugs. Remove plugs, do the A/C belt while plugs are out, easier to turn crankshaft. The A/C belt change is not one of Ford's better ideas.
