The steering wheel buttons will work if you connect the Maestro SW to the adapter. Most of the kits we sell have this connector prewired.

in at least the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek & 2016 Impreza (the 2 cars I replaced the stereo in), you can access the difficult bolt on the driver's side by locking the steering wheel in its highest position and looking through the space between the steering column and knee airbag/bolster. I was able to reach it easily with a 10" extension on my ratchet + universal swivel adapter + 10mm socket. No need to remove paneling, the knee airbag or stand on your head to get to it. 😀

Great video!!! 1 item that I did find was that I put my tilt wheel all the way up and I had enough gap to get between the steering wheel and the trim below to get a socket, short extension, swivel and long extension on the 10mm bolt on the steering wheel side.

Thanks for the video, did one better which may be because mine is RHD. I got the the drivers side 10mm bolt through the gap for the steering column and a very long extension to the ratchet. Once it was well loose I then turned it with a magnet on a long rod and then pulled it out attached to the magnet.

@@autoharnesshouse The unit that's going back in does not use those bolts on either side, so no need to try but with the magnet on the extension it would only need that to give one turn and then finish off with the 10mm socket and ratchet.

We did not use a Maestro SW steering wheel control kit on this install but I would recommend using the Maestro SW for these cars. All Steering wheel control buttons will be retained and we can pre-wire the connector to the harness for you if you would like us to (This just reduces the amount of soldering etc. that you'll have to do)

Yes, removal of the Clarion units is basically the same. The brackets are in the same place and the parts you'll need to replace the factory system are the same too. You won't have the Subaru Telematics system so you won't need to deal with removing that box.

What happens if the radio does just slide out... feels like something is holding it in tight even with all bolts taken out

The wiring and process is similar but it is actually easier to remove the headunit on the newer models. Check out the link to the Ascent video here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rJuMy5OkdbWWpag.html That is probably more similar your 2019.

Here’s my big question. Did your cross trek have navigation already built into the original unit? Cause my Impreza doesn’t have navigation and I’d like to upgrade to a pioneer with navigation.

No, this Crosstrek did not have OEM navigation. You can upgrade to a Pioneer headunit with navigation. You'll just need to buy a Pioneer navigation unit. These units come with a GPS antenna and they can be installed using the same parts and process that we show in this video.

I had an alpine placed professionally and they removed the starlink module and the front speakers of course don’t work. Why is it better to retain the starlink telematics unit than get the bypass module?

The Starlink module is responsible for all the communication with Subaru and for all the sounds that the eyesight system makes. These features (as well as maybe some others) won't work when your remove the starlink module.

I have a 2018 forester running maestro. My pioneer 4660NEX does not have a blue wire for antenna and am getting horrible signal. Is there anything you recommend/ advise to fix this issue?

I'm assuming you've got the AM/FM adapter installed. Is that correct? If so, you'll want to make sure that the AM/FM amp wire on the 10-pin connector is powered correctly. Even if it isn't connected to the blue/white wire on your headunit, you can connect it to the red +12V wire on the 10-pin adapter. This will provide power to the amp.

Looking to install an atoto headunit in a 2015 crosstrek the website says I need an additional harness for back up camera to go with the pre wires you guys offer. Mine also has the 6.2 screen which needs special modifications to splice the two together. The link to the additional backup camera harness does not work on the website I’m wondering if a demonstration could be done on that or a basic write up of the harness needed

We can do this for you or we can provide instructions on how to move these 3 wires over if you'd prefer to do it yourself. This isn't an issue for most Subaru's because most of them have a 7" or larger unit, which has a dedicated connector for the backup camera.

You'll need to install the Pioneer microphone. The Subaru microphone is a powered/amplified microphone and it isn't directly compatible with the Pioneer headunit.

So with the starlink bypass does that allow me to upgrade speakers with an amp? Because I keep getting told I can't upgrade anything cause it will fry the starlink and disable the front speakers but I take it the bypass goes where the front speaker wires connect to the starlink unit keeping them from getting messed up?

There are several ways to do this upgrade. We have adapters for amplifying the speaker signal after the starlink telematics unit. This prevents damage to the unit because the amplified signal is injected after the telematics. Another option is to bypass the telematics unit completely as you've mentioned!

I'm going to use this as my template for the install in my 19 outback with the same radio. Can you confirm whether it's all the same? Same parts?

michael charach life got in the way. I did not but I used the stock head unit with a DSP ultra from Helix to a zapco 3k on 2 custom RE XXX (xbl^2) 18 V1s and some sexy old school McIntosh amps for mids and highs

@@tylercadenas6322 No I am still stuck with the factory radio. I did a factory reset about a month ago and believe it or not the audio quality improved quite a bit. One of the updates had a terrible affect on the audio quality. Its still terrible but much better then it was.

No. These adapters don't retain the built in microphone. You'll need to use the one that comes with the new headunit.

How is the Maestro SW configured? Did you connect the cable (that comes with the Maestro SW) between the Pioneer and the Maestro SW (This is in addition to our plug and play adapter)

@@autoharnesshouse no I’ll need the maestro adapter, I only had the pioneer direct connect and your harness. That being said the backup camera will not work and it’s directly connected to the cars port and the brown plug in the back of the head unit

@@12cathockey If the headunit is switching to the black screen when you shift into reverse. Check how the 5-pin connector is connected. If you need help with this, check out the first part of the instructions or email our support team at inquiry@autoharnesshouse.com. If the headunit is not switching to the backup screen, this is usually because the headunit disables the backup camera input by default. Check the settings!

Will the starlink bypass disable starlink? Or will starlink still be enabled and working

If you install the Bypass plug, then you will be disconnecting the Subaru Telematics Receiver. By disconnecting that, you will eliminate the functions that communicate with Subaru (Such as the SOS calling function and the vehicle alert emails that are triggered based on vehicle data that Subaru collects). It does not interrupt "Starlink" functions of the OEM headunit itself.

Would this work for the 2021 Premium Crosstrek?

The wiring will work. The disassembly is a bit different. Check out the Subaru Ascent video in our channel for the disassembly (it is similar)

The only thing I wish you'd shown is exactly how to re-connect the mechanical linkage for the HVAC system. I'm kind of concerned that that will be a difficult thing to do when I install the new headunit I just bought for my wife's 2015 XV Crosstrek Premium. But overall, this was definitely a helpful video -- thanks.

For anyone coming across this: it’s fairly easy. Make not of how they are routed when removing them. They are much easier to put back on compared to taking off, but try not to bend them too much.

For anyone looking for actual guidance, go after the white syringe-looking thing that is clipped in right next to a (fkn hot) silver pipe. Be careful. I finally just sent it and got my fingers wrapped around it and when I did that it pulled the little pin off with it. It happened really fast.

No, this was one of the Fujitsu-Ten models. Probably a FM685UM. The adapters we sell will work for both so it doesn't really make much difference.

I did find on line that it's pin 17 on the 28pin plug but that is for the previous gen crosstrek my 28pin plug has no wire in slot #17. It also says that it pink/green wire but there are no pink/green wire on the 28pin plug.

@@slimandreyevify There are some vehicles that don't have this signal connected to the headunit. If you don't have it, and you need it for your headunit, you'll need to tie into it somewhere else in the vehicle.

Where does the parking brake connect to?

The parking brake signal from the Pioneer radio is connected to either the parking brake signal on the car or to the parking brake bypass circuit. We have a version of the direct wire adapter that has the parking brake bypass circuit already connected so in this case, it won't need to be connected anywhere. In the case of this Crosstrek, the parking brake signal is in the vehicle wiring and is connected as part of our plug and play adapter setup that we used for the install.

if you’re taking out the telematics system, you will need the by pass to allow the front speakers to work.

If you have the SOS button/light by the front maplight than you have telematics in your car. If you have that button and you're taking out the starlink telematics DCM, then you'll need the bypass.
