For real though, do any of you hating on Nikko play disc golf? It's like you don't know how frustrating it is to know how well you're capable of playing and play completely awful. I've been there, and anybody else who's played a round that is almost 100 points lower than his rating knows what it feels like. I understand that his temper got a bit out of hand, but off the course he's a genuinely nice guy, he just wants to win. Besides that, I think he's improved his ass-hole-y-ness a lot because of all the criticism he's gotten in KZread comments.

McBeth gets a triple bogey and shrugs it off. Nikko gets a birdie and loses his damn mind? It's not just the skill that separates these two.

Always a pleasure to watch Patrick Brown. Awesome dude. As for Nikko: not okay, not cool. Just chill out guy. Have I ever had a meltdown on the course? Yes, when I play by myself. I could NEVER imagine freaking out like that in public and at an event. I just don't have it in me too embarrass myself or make my card mates distracted. So I have a hard time wrapping my head around why he doesn't have the same consideration. Killer, killer capabilities, but his mental game has always weighed him down. Sexton is another class act that is always a joy to watch. Fun card.

have you ever watched Nikko....for like the last EVER...that's just Nikko...hes just very fired up and hard on him self....if you want to make an example out of someone for being a ass on the course go watch Big Jerm play...if he has a couple bad holes in row he virtually quits, drops his head, sulks around the course really slow and basically stop trying....Nikko is just hard on himself.

  • @RascalRoscoe

Synapsis I'm aware. I've watched him many times. I'm saying that it's just inconsiderate to his cardmates. It's so uncomfortable to be on the same card with someone freaking out like that. Just because he has always done it doesn't mean it's all right,ya know? I have also seen Big Jerm first hand because I followed one of his cards at a tourney. He can get pretty bad. No matter who it is, it kinda bums me out because I think it's embarrassing and not very courteous.

familydinner1 Oh really? I saw him at masters last year. He was cheering on his cardmates and just genuinely being a great sport. Kinda sucks to hear that you experienced him like that. He was never an asshole when I was a part of the gallery. That was just my experience though.

RascalRoscoe I understand what you're saying, and I agree that it is both immature and inconsiderate for a professional of Nikko or Jeremy's caliber to be acting like that during an event. That being said, everyone has a different way of dealing with frustration, as well as different emotional bio rhythms. Both of those players have an ability to go all out and use their emotions to their advantage. Nikko's outburst in this case, didn't seem to affect any other players' performance, only his own. I personally feel that there are better things to judge a man by, than his reactions to his own failures. For example Nikko has done amazing things for the sport; an INFINITE amount more than all the people here who are shaming him, and weirdly enjoying his misery (That makes someone a bad person in my opinion). It's like when people try to call Feldberg an asshole; I know for a fact that Dave Feldberg has a good relationship with other players who have played with him, and God dammit, disc golf wouldn't be a sport if it weren't for Dave's efforts at legitimizing it. People will hop on the hate train for the smallest of reasons, and disc golf isn't about hate. Spectators judge disc golfers SOLELY on emotional control because it's all they can see in the video, but that's not the whole picture. Josh Anton murdered someone for Christ's sake but everyone here is content bitching about 25 year old Nikko.

Tight Garbage Eh I never said he hasn't done anything for the sport though. Really all I was saying is that his temper tantrums aren't considerate of other golfers and should be tamed. I don't personally think that anything he has done for the sport can justify those outbursts.

  • @ScumbagScotty

Great coverage Marty! Love it as always. Also, when you love a sport so much as these pros do, and compete at such a high level, you can't blame them for being harsh on themselves. Is it a bit much at times? Of course. I feel like you all should try to see it from his (Nikko's) angle. He cares maybe a little too much. We all have a predetermined idea of how a shot should look like and once we don't hit that, then we breakdown. If you don't breakdown in any fashion, you don't have the same passion of playing a sport that means so much to him (Nikko). I'm not particularly defending him, I'm defending players who put their heart into every shot.

Professional ball golfers don’t act like that, other pro disc golfers don’t act like that, you and I wouldn’t be allowed to act like that, hell, I don’t even let my kids act like that, at home, in private. So why does the PDGA allow a player to act that way. It’s not passion, it’s disrespect for the game and fellow players. It amounts to nothing more than being a distraction bordering on poor gamesmanship to throw the other players off and bring them down to his level. Nikko is a great player, some of the lines he hits are crazy good, a definite force out on the course. But, like my 10 year old daughter once told me, “Daddy, why is he so mad, doesn’t he know disc golf is supposed to be fun”? I had no answer.

Look at how his attitude completely destroyed his game. He missed an EAGLE putt and STILL made a birdie...he got so upset and stormed off cursing then after that he threw his entire round away because he couldn't keep his head on straight. He's by far the least respectful and least professional player I've ever seen. He can aim his anger all he wants in any direction...when he's not on the course and not on camera representing the sport and team prodigy.

Shady Grady you misunderstand, nobody is being "fake" when they don't act out their aggression on camera. It's called being an adult and being respectful to those around you and those who look up to you. Nikko has a 15 year old protege on the team he got sponsored...that little boy looks up to him and Nikko is showing him and MANY others that its okay to just say/do whatever you want in public if you're emotional and its not okay. Its disrespectful and unprofessional.

Brown was throwing a putter off the tee on one for sure but I don't know what mold. I believe he threw a KC pro roc on 7. McBeth for sure threw a KC pro roc on 1 and a McPro Roc3 on 7. The McPro roc3s break in to understable very well, plus the was a decent left to right cross/headwind all week which aides the late turn a bit. McBeth only throws max weight rocs, but he will throw some lighter drivers.

Nikko Somadbro: 3-2-1, 1-2-3. What the heck is wrong with me? Seriously though, no one else acts like that on tour. It's not cool. It's not passion. It's childish. It has to be (at least) distracting for the other players on the card. There must be several people who dread being on a card with him. While I personally get a kick out of watching the tantrums, it does nothing for the sport's image.
